You definitely won’t miss him once you’re inside the farmhouse. Farmer Hans is a giant skeleton taking up a large part of the living room.
His story is about as strange as you might expect from Welcome to Elderfield. He was once a farmhand who apparently decided that removing his skin would help his body continue farming as he got older. Instead, his bones continued growing until he became too large to leave his house without destroying it.
So, farming in Elderfield starts exactly as normally as you’d expect.
How to Talk to Farmer Hans
There is one slightly confusing thing about speaking with Farmer Hans.
You can’t simply walk directly in front of him and interact with his body.
Instead, walk toward the chair on his right side and interact with him from there.
Once you successfully speak with Farmer Hans, he will introduce you to farming, give you some useful items, provide some Gold, and give you your first farming task.
This conversation is what properly starts your farming journey.
Where to Get Farming Tools and Seeds
After speaking with Farmer Hans, you’ll be able to buy farming supplies from Old Man Crawford.

To remove them, walk up to an infected square and interact with it.
On PC, this is done using the left mouse button.
However, you need to have Cleansing Balm in your inventory.
If you have Cleansing Balm available, interacting with the infected plot will clear away the Ghost Tentacles and make the area usable again.
How to Plant Seeds
Once you have cleared your farm plots, planting seeds is straightforward.
Interact with a cleared plot that can accept seeds.
The first time you do this, the game will display a pop-up showing the seeds currently available in your inventory.
Select the seeds you want to plant.

This means you don’t need to constantly open your inventory or switch between different menus every time you want to plant another seed.
