Finding every Piece of Heart is one of my favorite ways to make Link stronger in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake. Some are tucked away in familiar places, while others ask you to solve a puzzle, win a minigame, or return to an area at a different point in the story.
In this guide, we’ll go through all 36 Pieces of Heart, including the ones you can collect as Child Link and the ones that require Adult Link’s equipment. You can use the quick-reference table to plan your route, then follow the individual location instructions whenever you need help.
Every four Pieces of Heart combine into one Heart Container, giving you nine additional hearts from the full set. You’ll still need to collect the Heart Containers awarded for defeating bosses to complete your health bar.

Child Link Heart Pieces
1. Lon Lon Ranch — Crumbled Tower Storage
You can find this Piece of Heart inside the crumbled tower in the southwest part of Lon Lon Ranch. There’s no special item or song needed.
- Enter the ranch and head to the southwest corner.
- Find the damaged tower and move the crates inside.
- Arrange them to create a gap you can crawl through.
- Crawl into the hidden storage area and collect the Piece of Heart.
2. Kakariko Village — Rooftop Man
This one takes a little flying. You’ll need a Cucco to reach the blue roof of Granny’s Potion Shop.
- Take a Cucco from the path leading toward Death Mountain.
- Use it to jump the fence near the Windmill and reach the hilltop Cucco.
- Carry the second Cucco and glide toward the blue roof of Granny’s Potion Shop.
- Find the man standing on the lower roof near the wooden tower and speak to him to receive the Piece of Heart.
3. Kakariko Graveyard — Dampe’s Digging Tour
At night, visit Dampe in the graveyard and pay him 10 Rupees to dig a mound. The Piece of Heart is a random prize, so you may need to try several spots.
If Dampe finds something valuable, you’ll need to pay an additional 5 Rupees to claim his prize. Keep trying until you get the Piece of Heart.
4. Kakariko Graveyard — Hidden Grave Chest
Look along the far southern edge of the grave rows, below the Royal Family’s tomb.
- Pull the grave at the end of the row.
- Drop into the hole underneath.
- Open the chest inside to claim the Piece of Heart.
You can collect this as either Child Link or Adult Link.
5. Hyrule Castle Town — Find Richard the Dog
After the gate to Death Mountain has opened, speak to the woman in Castle Town who has lost her dog, Richard.
- Head into the alley past the Bombchu Shop, toward the Treasure Chest Shop.
- Look for the correct white dog among the other dogs in the area.
- Bring Richard back to his owner to receive the Piece of Heart.
6. Lost Woods — Play for the Skull Kid
Once you’ve met Saria and learned Saria’s Song, return to the Lost Woods.
From the starting point, take the left path to find a Skull Kid in a grove. Play Saria’s Song for him and he’ll reward you with a Piece of Heart.
7. Lost Woods — Skull Kids’ Memory Game
This challenge is available after you obtain the Fairy Ocarina. Follow the music through the Lost Woods to find two Skull Kids who want to play a memory game.
They perform sequences that you must repeat on your ocarina. The sequences get longer as you progress:
- First round: 3–5 notes
- Second round: 4–6 notes
- Final round: 6–8 notes
The first rewards are a Blue Rupee and a Red Rupee worth 20 Rupees. Complete the final round to earn the Piece of Heart.
8. Goron City — Spinning Goron Pot
After meeting Darunia, light the torches around the large Goron pot using a lit Deku Stick. The pot will begin spinning.
- Find the bomb on the plank near the top of the city.
- Pick it up and drop it into the spinning pot.
- Aim for the pot’s happy face.
Landing the bomb correctly earns you the Piece of Heart.
9. Death Mountain Crater — Alcove Below the Mesh Wall
This Piece of Heart is in a dangerous spot, but you can reach it shortly after completing Dodongo’s Cavern.
The crater’s heat begins damaging you after about four seconds, dealing a quarter-heart each second. From the entrance, head down the slope and move right between the rocks until you find a mesh wall.
Climb down the wall to reach the alcove below and grab the Piece of Heart. Climbing resets the heat timer, so move quickly on the way back.
10. Death Mountain Crater — Business Deku Scrub
Look for a Business Deku Scrub on the northwest slope, near the broken bridge and a large rock.
He sells a Piece of Heart for 100 Rupees. The crater’s heat timer applies here too, so plan your approach and return trip carefully.
11. Kakariko Village — Hidden Cow Pen
After reaching the summit of Death Mountain, the owl will drop you onto Impa’s roof in Kakariko Village.
Don’t jump straight down. Move backward and drop onto the roof of a hidden cow pen. If you’re visiting as Adult Link, you can instead use the Hookshot to reach the green vines to the left of Impa’s house and cross the fence.
12. Hyrule Castle Town — Bombchu Bowling
After completing Dodongo’s Cavern and opening access to Bombchus, you can try the Bombchu Bowling alley in Castle Town. Each attempt costs 10 Rupees.
You’ll need to complete the different challenges to reach the Piece of Heart prize:
- Beginner: 10 Bombchus
- Advanced: Biggest Bomb Bag
- Expert: Piece of Heart
Watch the angles and obstacles carefully, because the Bombchus can veer off course. Keep trying until you clear the expert challenge.
13. Zora River — High Platform Above the Frogs
This Piece of Heart sits on a high platform above the frogs. You’ll need a Cucco to reach it.
- Bring a Cucco from near the sealed gate and clear the enemies along the way.
- Carry it past the last ledge and throw it over.
- Use it to glide to the high platform, then climb the vines to the island.
- Find another Cucco in the grotto on the southern island and take it outside.
- From the narrow platform near the Sheikah Stone, glide toward the Piece of Heart above the frogs.
14. Zora River — Platform Near Zora’s Domain
A second Cucco-based challenge takes you to a small platform northwest of the waterfall.
Pick up the Cucco beyond the sealed gate near the Bean Seller. Carry it along the path toward Zora’s Domain, crossing the platforms as you go. Use the Cucco to glide to the tiny platform beyond the falls and collect the Piece of Heart.
15. Zora’s Domain — Torch Puzzle
You can find this Piece of Heart behind the waterfall.
- Light the two torches at the entrance to the audience chamber.
- Run down the steps and light the torches along the way.
- Relight your Deku Stick whenever necessary.
- Go behind the waterfall and light the final two braziers.
A chest appears with the Piece of Heart inside.
16. Lake Hylia — Fishing Pond
Visit the Fishing Pond across the water from the Scarecrow area. The reward is a fish longer than 40 cm.
Cast near a large fish, pull with ZR, and follow the fish’s direction as it struggles. Reel it in when it becomes tired. You may need a few attempts to catch one large enough.
17. Gerudo Valley — Across the Gorge
Look across the valley toward the opposite cliff wall. A chest containing a Piece of Heart is waiting there.
Pick up a Cucco and use it to float across the gap. Land near the chest and open it.
18. Gerudo Valley — Behind the Waterfall
Take the Cucco near the bridge and glide down into the large alcove along the river.
From there, head north behind the waterfall to find the Piece of Heart.
19. Kakariko Graveyard — Magic Bean Plant
As Child Link, buy a Magic Bean and plant it in the soft soil beside the dead tree on the north side of the raised ruins.
Return as Adult Link and ride the grown plant to the Piece of Heart.
20. Kakariko Village — Windmill Ledge
After completing Dampe’s race and receiving the Hookshot, use it to exit the graveyard area and reach the passage leading to the Windmill.
Inside, jump across the moving parts to reach the high ledge where the Piece of Heart is waiting.
21. Kakariko Graveyard — Dampe’s Race
Race Dampe again as Adult Link. You must finish in under one minute to earn the Piece of Heart.
Watch for flames and take the quickest route through the course. The Longshot can help with the final staircase, if you have it.
22. Lake Hylia — Observatory Bean Plant
As Child Link, plant a Magic Bean in the soft soil outside the Observatory.
When you return as Adult Link, ride the plant upward and climb the ladder to reach the Piece of Heart.
23. Hyrule Field — Business Scrub Grotto
East of Castle Town’s gate, follow the moat and look for a cracked stone grotto. Bomb it open.
As Adult Link, read the nearby fairy writing to learn the password. After completing the Forest Temple, return as Child Link, use the password, and buy the Piece of Heart from the Business Scrub for 100 Rupees.
24. Hyrule Field — Chest Near Gerudo Valley
Near the entrance to Gerudo Valley, look beneath a rocky overhang for a chest you can’t open as Child Link.
As Adult Link, read the fairy writing nearby. It reveals that someone has already taken the treasure. After completing the Forest Temple, return as Child Link and open the chest to receive the Piece of Heart.
25. Zora River — Song of Storms for the Frogs
First, learn the Song of Storms from the Windmill Man as Adult Link. Then return to Zora River as Child Link.
Play the song for the frogs to make them grow, and they’ll reward you with a Piece of Heart.
26. Zora River — Frog Music Game
The frogs will also reward you for playing all six non-warp songs:
- Zelda’s Lullaby
- Epona’s Song
- Saria’s Song
- Sun’s Song
- Song of Time
- Song of Storms
After playing them, take on the frog matching game. Follow the sequence carefully and enter the notes promptly:
L, Y, A, R, Y, A, R, L, R, L, R, A, Y, L
Complete the game to receive another Piece of Heart.
27. Kakariko Village — House of Skulltula
Collect 50 Gold Skulltula tokens and return to the cursed family in the House of Skulltula.
The father rewards you with a Piece of Heart once you reach the 50-token milestone.
Adult Link Heart Pieces
28. Death Mountain Trail — Bean Plant Near Dodongo’s Cavern
As Child Link, plant a Magic Bean in the soft soil near the entrance to Dodongo’s Cavern.
Return as Adult Link and ride the plant up to the high ledge where the Piece of Heart is located.
29. Death Mountain Crater — Bean Plant on the Rocky Pillar
This one requires the Bolero of Fire and a little planning around the crater’s heat.
- Reach the Fire Temple as Adult Link.
- Return to Child Link and use Bolero of Fire to warp to the crater.
- Plant a Magic Bean in the soft soil on the rocky pillar area.
- Leave the area and return as Adult Link.
- Ride the grown plant to the Piece of Heart.
Plant the bean quickly before the heat becomes a problem.
30. Zora Fountain — Iceberg Route
After the area freezes, cross the icebergs in Zora Fountain and make your way to the northeast corner.
The Piece of Heart is waiting there. Hop carefully between the ice platforms so you don’t fall into the water.
31. Zora Fountain — Underwater Rupees
Equip the Iron Boots and dive to the bottom of Zora Fountain. Look for a ring of green Rupees, with the Piece of Heart nearby.
The Zora Tunic is recommended because it lets you stay underwater longer. If you don’t have it, make sure you can reach the reward and return before running out of air. Unfreeze King Zora first if you need to obtain the tunic.
32. Lake Hylia — Diving Challenge at the Observatory
Speak to the scientist at the Observatory and take his diving challenge. You’ll need to dive to a depth of nine meters.
First, catch the biggest fish at the Fishing Pond as Adult Link to earn the Golden Scale. Then dive into the pool inside the laboratory and speak to the scientist to claim your Piece of Heart.
33. Hyrule Castle Town — Treasure Chest Shop
You’ll need the Lens of Truth, which you obtain by completing the Bottom of the Well.
To unlock that dungeon’s route, learn the Song of Storms as Adult Link and play it for the Windmill Man as Child Link. Once you have the Lens, enter the Treasure Chest Shop and use it to see which chests contain keys. Win the game to receive the Piece of Heart.
34. Gerudo Fortress — Rooftop Route
Make your way from the northern rooftops south toward the crumbling slope, then continue to the rooftops in the southeast and head north.
At the gap, play the Scarecrow’s Song to summon Pierre. Use the Longshot to reach him, then open the chest on the left for the Piece of Heart.
35. Gerudo Fortress — Archery Range
After freeing the Gerudo prisoners, head to the archery course in the southeast part of the fortress.
Ride Epona and use the Fairy Bow to shoot the pots and targets. Score more than 750 points to earn the Piece of Heart.
36. Desert Colossus — Magic Bean Plant
Reach the Spirit Temple as Adult Link, where Sheik teaches you the song that lets you return to Child Link.
As Child Link, plant a Magic Bean in the soft soil. Return as Adult Link and ride the grown plant over the arch to collect the final Piece of Heart.
With all 36 Pieces of Heart collected, you’ll have earned nine extra Heart Containers and be much better prepared for the challenges ahead.
