Spellbound & Shelved Speedrun Achievement Guide

Getting the speedrun achievement in Spellbound & Shelved can feel difficult when you are trying to manage thousands of books, customers, shelves, upgrades, and your growing group of gnomes at the same time.

In this post, we will show you a strategy that can help you complete the speedrun in under 87 minutes. The most important part of this method is keeping track of the reader spawn milestones based on how many books are still left on the floor.

We will also go through the upgrade choices and purchases made during the run, including when to get more gnomes, shelves, return chutes, customer spaces, and other useful upgrades.

Spellbound & Shelved Speedrun Achievement Guide

This strategy is based on a run that was tested successfully twice. There may be faster or easier methods, but if you want a milestone-based route to follow, this gives you a clear idea of what to do as the number of books on the floor decreases.

Speedrun Milestones

The most useful thing to watch during your run is the number of books remaining on the floor.

The major reader milestones are approximately:

  • Frog: Around 5,800 books
  • Ghost: Around 4,700 books
  • Owl: Around 3,600 books
  • Gnome Tourist: Around 2,500 books
  • Cat: Around 1,300 books

A useful strategy is to start purchasing the next three shelves roughly 100 books before each milestone.

This helps prepare your library for the next customer and reduces the chance of readers leaving because the books they want are unavailable.

General Speedrun Strategy

The main focus of this run is improving your gnomes and keeping everything moving as quickly as possible.

You should constantly click on both your gnomes and customers while collecting tips whenever possible.

For gnome upgrades, carry capacity and speed are the most important priorities.

You also want to continue adding more gnomes as your economy allows, since having additional workers makes dealing with the huge number of books much easier.

One thing worth mentioning is that this run did not use tip upgrades. The speedrun was still completed before 87 minutes, but skipping tip upgrades made the final part slower because the player had to spend more time manually collecting tips.

So, unlike this particular route, you may want to consider purchasing tip upgrades to make the later stages easier.

First Reader: 6,653 to 5,800 Books

Approximate milestone time: 29 minutes

At the beginning of the run, buy your second gnome immediately.

From there, keep clicking on everyone as often as possible. This includes both gnomes and customers, while also collecting available tips.

Buy the first two shelves as soon as you can.

Apprentices will use these shelves, and if the categories they want are unavailable, they may leave. Getting the shelves early helps avoid losing customers.

Your main upgrade priority during this stage should be your gnomes.

Focus primarily on:

  • Carry capacity
  • Speed

Continue buying additional gnomes while improving the first line of skills for the workers you already have.

By around 6,100 books remaining, get your fifth gnome.

When you reach roughly 5,900 books, start unlocking the next two shelves.

At around 5,800 books, unlock the third shelf in preparation for the next stage.

At approximately 29 minutes and 5,800 books remaining, the Frog should arrive.

Second Reader: 5,800 to 4,700 Books

Approximate milestone time: 44 minutes

During this stage, wait until you can get your sixth gnome.

Upgrade your gnomes through the first two upgrade lines and prioritize the third speed upgrade.

Carry capacity was not the main priority during this part of the run until around 5,300 books remaining.

When you reach approximately 4,800 books, begin gradually purchasing the next three shelves.

At around 44 minutes, the Ghost should arrive somewhere near the 4,700 to 4,800 book range.

Third Reader: 4,700 to 3,600 Books

Approximate milestone time: 56 minutes

Wait until you can get your seventh gnome.

After upgrading the first two lines for the seventh gnome, focus more heavily on the third and fourth speed upgrades for your workers.

At this point in the run, purchase the Return Chute.

When you reach around 3,700 books remaining, start buying the next three shelves.

You can be a little flexible here, but the goal is to have them ready as the next reader milestone approaches.

At approximately 56 minutes and 3,600 books remaining, the Owl should arrive.

Fourth Reader: 3,600 to 2,500 Books

Approximate milestone time: 63 minutes

At this stage, purchase your eighth gnome.

You should also get:

  • Poster
  • Extra customer upgrade
  • Return Chute 2

After these purchases, focus mostly on increasing your gnomes’ carry capacity.

When you reach around 2,600 books, purchase the final three shelves needed for this part of the route.

At approximately 63 minutes and 2,500 books remaining, the Gnome Tourist should arrive.

Cat Reader: 2,500 to 1,300 Books

Approximate milestone time: 71 minutes

Purchase your next gnome and continue upgrading your workers.

During this stage, buy:

  • Return Chute 3
  • Two additional customer spaces
  • Marketing 2

Continue improving your gnomes and keeping the library moving as quickly as possible.

At approximately 71 minutes and 1,300 books remaining, the Cat should arrive.

What to Do After the Cat Arrives

After reaching the Cat milestone, keep doing what has worked throughout the run.

Continue clicking your gnomes and customers constantly.

Once books are placed and your workers are doing their jobs, keep interacting with customers and collecting tips as quickly as possible.

The later part of the run can become slower if you do not have tip upgrades because you will spend more time manually collecting money.

This particular route still worked without buying them, but purchasing those upgrades may make your own attempt smoother.

You can also experiment with upgrades that were ignored during this run to see whether they improve your time.

Quick Speedrun Milestone Summary

Here is the complete milestone route in one place:

Reader Books Remaining Approximate Time
Frog ~5,800 ~29 minutes
Ghost ~4,700 ~44 minutes
Owl ~3,600 ~56 minutes
Gnome Tourist ~2,500 ~63 minutes
Cat ~1,300 ~71 minutes

Final Tips for the Speedrun Achievement

The biggest thing to remember is that this route is built around the number of books remaining on the floor.

Keep an eye on the milestones and begin buying the next three shelves roughly 100 books before the next important reader appears.

Prioritize getting more gnomes, improve their speed and carrying ability, and keep clicking both workers and customers whenever possible.

The run used here was completed in under 87 minutes, so the strategy can work if you follow the general milestones and keep your library running efficiently.

You do not necessarily need to copy every single purchase perfectly. Use this route as a guide, watch your book count, prepare your shelves before the next reader milestone, and keep those gnomes working as fast as possible.
