If there’s one thing every Palworld player eventually realizes, it’s that a good flying mount completely changes how you play the game. The first time you unlock a flyer, exploring the map feels amazing. Then, a few dozen hours later, you capture something even faster and suddenly wonder how you ever traveled without it.
I’ve gone through that same progression myself. I started with Nitewing because, honestly, that’s what almost everyone gets first. It felt great at the time. But after upgrading to Quivern, then Shadowbeak, and eventually trying the late-game monsters, it became obvious that not every flying Pal is created equal.
Some mounts are built purely for speed. Others trade speed for incredible stamina, while a few are surprisingly strong combat companions that can carry difficult boss fights without feeling slow during exploration.
This tier list ranks every major flying mount in Palworld Version 1.0, taking into account:
- Flight speed
- Sprint speed
- Stamina efficiency
- Combat performance
- Mount-exclusive abilities
- Exploration value
- Overall usefulness from early game to endgame
One thing worth mentioning before we jump into the rankings: the fastest Pal isn’t automatically the best one. A mount that empties its stamina bar after thirty seconds might technically fly faster than everything else, but it won’t necessarily be the one you’ll enjoy using every day. That’s why overall usability matters just as much as raw speed.

How I Ranked These Flying Mounts
Rather than looking at movement speed alone, this tier list considers several factors that matter during actual gameplay.
Flight Speed
How quickly the Pal travels across the world while flying.
Sprint Performance
Some flying Pals gain massive speed boosts while sprinting, while others barely improve at all.
Stamina
A fast mount becomes frustrating if it needs to land every few seconds.
Long-distance exploration heavily favors mounts with larger stamina pools.
Combat
Many flying Pals aren’t just transportation.
Several provide powerful elemental buffs, increased attack damage, or even unique weapons while mounted.
Exploration Utility
Certain mounts increase item drops, improve mining, boost movement speed, or provide party-wide bonuses, making them valuable even if they aren’t the fastest.
SS Tier Flying Mounts
These are the absolute kings of aerial travel in Palworld.
Whether your goal is exploring the entire map, farming Alpha bosses, collecting treasure chests, or simply getting from one side of the world to another as fast as possible, these are the mounts you’ll eventually want.
Jetragon
Technology Level: 79 (Jetragon Missile Launcher)
Element: Dragon
Best For: Maximum Speed

★★★★★
Jetragon remains the fastest flying mount in Palworld, and honestly, nothing else quite matches the feeling of riding it for the first time.
The acceleration alone is incredible. Once you’re airborne, huge sections of the map disappear beneath you in seconds. If you’re farming legendary schematics, jumping between Alpha bosses, or simply trying to complete map exploration quickly, Jetragon saves an unbelievable amount of travel time.
Its biggest strength is raw movement speed.
Even after the Version 1.0 updates, it still owns the highest top speed among every flying Pal.
However, there is one catch.
Its stamina pool isn’t particularly impressive.
You’ll often notice that your stamina drains much faster than expected during long flights. On shorter trips this isn’t noticeable at all, but if you’re crossing the largest regions or heading toward the World Tree, you’ll occasionally need to glide or land briefly before continuing.
Combat is another area where Jetragon shines.
Unlike most mounts, Jetragon gives players access to its own Missile Launcher while mounted. This weapon replaces your equipped firearm and fires devastating rockets capable of deleting groups of enemies or dealing huge burst damage against bosses.
It’s one of the few flying mounts that genuinely feels designed for both exploration and combat.

Elements: Dragon / Dark
Best For: Long-Distance Exploration

If Jetragon is the sports car of Palworld, Xenolord is the luxury touring vehicle.
It’s only slightly slower, but you’ll barely notice the difference during normal gameplay.
What you will notice is how much farther Xenolord can fly before running out of stamina.
That extra endurance completely changes exploration.
Instead of constantly watching your stamina bar, you can simply keep flying across entire regions without worrying about landing every minute.
For many players—including myself—that makes Xenolord the better everyday mount despite technically being slower.
Its Partner Skill also deserves attention.
Meteor Wings increases the damage dealt by weapon-wielding Pals, meaning Xenolord provides value even after you switch to combat companions.
Unlike many mounts that become useless once you dismount, Xenolord continues supporting your team.
Combat performance is excellent too.
Its Dragon/Dark typing gives it access to several powerful late-game attacks, making it useful against many difficult enemies.
S Tier Flying Mounts
These flying Pals are only a small step behind the two SS-tier monsters.
Most players won’t even notice the speed difference unless they’re comparing them side by side, and several of these mounts actually outperform Jetragon in specific situations thanks to their unique Partner Skills.
Panthalus

Element: Water
Best For: Early High-Speed Exploration

★★★★★
Panthalus is one of the most unique flying mounts introduced in Version 1.0.
The first thing you’ll notice is that it doesn’t require a Pal Gear to ride.
That’s a surprisingly useful advantage because it lets you begin using it immediately instead of farming crafting materials first.
Its movement also feels different from other flying mounts.
Rather than relying heavily on sprinting, Panthalus maintains consistently high movement speed even during normal flight. Since sprinting isn’t necessary, stamina lasts much longer than expected.
One unexpected bonus is its massive body.
Because it’s so large, you can actually stand on top of it while it’s airborne, opening up some creative possibilities during exploration.
While it doesn’t quite match Jetragon’s incredible speed, Panthalus remains one of the most comfortable flying mounts available.
Shaolong
Technology Level: 77
Elements: Dragon / Water
Best For: Aggressive Dragon Teams
Overall Rating

Shaolong is ridiculously fast.
In terms of pure speed, it’s among the closest competitors to Jetragon.
The downside is fairly obvious once you start flying longer distances.
Its stamina drains quickly.
If you’re only traveling between nearby fast-travel points or Alpha bosses, this isn’t much of an issue.
However, players exploring huge areas continuously may find themselves landing more often than they’d like.
Where Shaolong truly shines is combat.
Its Partner Skill boosts attack when surrounded by Dragon-type teammates, making it an incredible centerpiece for Dragon-focused party compositions.
If you enjoy maximizing elemental synergies instead of simply traveling, Shaolong becomes far more valuable than its speed alone suggests.
Eidrolon
Technology Level: 68
Elements: Dragon / Dark
Best For: Balanced Exploration & Combat
Eidrolon strikes one of the best balances in the game between speed, stamina, and combat performance.
It’s fast enough to make long-distance travel enjoyable without constantly worrying about stamina, while also becoming stronger the more Dragon and Dark Pals you have in your party.
Its Partner Skill increases both movement speed and attack, meaning it naturally gets stronger as your team becomes more specialized.
Unlike mounts that only excel at one thing, Eidrolon feels dependable in almost every situation, whether you’re exploring new regions, farming bosses, or clearing dungeons.
Eidrolon Ignis
Technology Level: 76
Elements: Dragon / Fire
Best For: Dragon & Fire Team Compositions
At first glance, Eidrolon Ignis looks very similar to the standard Eidrolon, but its party bonuses shift toward Dragon and Fire Pals instead.
Its overall flight speed, stamina, and combat performance remain excellent, making it one of the strongest late-game flying mounts available.
Where it really stands out is when paired with Fire-heavy teams. The more Dragon and Fire Pals you bring, the stronger and faster Eidrolon Ignis becomes, making it an outstanding choice for players who enjoy building around elemental synergies.
Even outside those teams, it’s still an excellent flying mount thanks to its balanced stats and reliable handling.
A Tier Flying Mounts
These Pals are where the flying mount roster starts to get really interesting. None of them are slow by any means, and several can easily carry you through the late game. The only reason they aren’t ranked alongside the S or SS tiers is because they’re either slightly slower, lack unique exploration advantages, or are outperformed by newer additions introduced in Version 1.0.
That doesn’t mean you should replace them the moment you catch something better. In fact, a few of these remain among the strongest combat mounts in Palworld and are still worth keeping in your party even after you unlock faster flyers.
Frostallion
Technology Level: 62 (Frostallion Saddle)
Element: Ice
Best For: Combat & Long-Distance Travel

Exploration
★★★★☆
Frostallion has been one of the best legendary mounts since before Version 1.0, and even after newer Pals joined the roster, it continues to hold its own.
While it isn’t among the absolute fastest flyers anymore, it’s still extremely quick. More importantly, its stamina feels fantastic. You can travel across massive sections of the map without constantly watching the stamina bar, making exploration much more relaxed than with speed-focused mounts like Jetragon.
Where Frostallion truly shines is combat.
Its Icy Steed Partner Skill changes your attacks to the Ice element, boosts your attack power, and gives your attacks the ability to inflict Freeze while mounted. Against enemies weak to Ice, this dramatically increases your damage output.
If you’re the type of player who enjoys fighting Alpha Pals while staying mounted, Frostallion remains one of the best choices in the game.
Frostallion Noct

Frostallion Noct follows the same philosophy as the original Frostallion but trades Ice damage for Dark damage.
Its Black Steed Partner Skill changes your attacks to Dark, increases attack power, and allows your attacks to inflict Blind, giving it excellent crowd control during tougher fights.
Outside of combat, it feels nearly identical to Frostallion. Strong stamina, dependable flying speed, and smooth handling make it one of the easiest legendary mounts to recommend.
If your build focuses on Dark-type attacks, this version usually edges out the original.
Shadowbeak

Shadowbeak has always felt like a Pal that was designed for players who love fighting rather than simply traveling.
Its flying speed is respectable and stamina is good enough for lengthy exploration sessions.
However, what really makes Shadowbeak stand out is Modified DNA.
While mounted, Shadowbeak increases the damage of its Dark-type attacks, making it one of the hardest-hitting flying combat Pals available.
If you spend more time clearing dungeons and boss fights than casually exploring, Shadowbeak easily earns a permanent spot in your party.
Selyne

Elements: Dark / Neutral
Best For: Balanced Combat

Selyne surprised a lot of players after its release.
Although it doesn’t look particularly fast at first glance, it actually offers one of the smoothest flying experiences in the game thanks to its excellent stamina pool.
Its Celestial Darkness Partner Skill also boosts Fire and Dark attacks while mounted, making Selyne an excellent hybrid between exploration and combat.
It’s one of those mounts that rarely feels weak regardless of what you’re doing.
B Tier Flying Mounts
This is probably the most crowded section of the entire tier list.
Most B-tier flyers are excellent during the mid-game and will comfortably carry you until legendary mounts become available.
Several also remain useful later thanks to their unique Partner Skills.
Faleris
One of the fastest mid-game flying mounts.
Its Partner Skill increases drops from Ice-type Pals, making resource farming much more efficient.
Although newer mounts eventually surpass it in movement speed, Faleris remains a fantastic exploration Pal until the late game.
Quivern
Quivern isn’t the fastest flyer, but it’s incredibly reliable.
Its party-wide Dragon attack buff means it continues providing value even after you dismount.
If you’re using Dragon-heavy teams, Quivern is surprisingly difficult to replace.
Quivern Botan
The Grass version trades Dragon support for offensive Grass bonuses.
While mounted, your attacks become Grass-type and receive increased damage.
It’s especially useful against Water and Ground enemies.
Faleris Aqua
Faleris Aqua works almost identically to Faleris but instead increases drops from Fire-type Pals.
If you’re farming Flame Organs or Fire-related crafting materials, it’s one of the best farming companions available.
Roujay
Roujay isn’t picked for speed.
Players use it because of its excellent Blind synergy.
Enemies suffering from Blind take increased damage while Roujay is in your party, making it an excellent support mount for status-focused builds.
Ragnahawk
Ragnahawk has remained popular since launch for one simple reason.
Mounted combat feels fantastic.
Its Flame Wing Partner Skill greatly increases your attack while converting your damage into Fire.
Against Ice enemies, Ragnahawk can absolutely melt bosses.
Its movement speed is respectable, although no longer top-tier.
Beakon
Beakon continues to be one of the strongest Electric combat mounts.
While mounted:
- Player attack increases
- Damage becomes Electric
- Movement speed increases with more Electric Pals
Electric-focused teams benefit enormously from Beakon’s Partner Skill.
Beakon Cryst
Beakon Cryst follows the same formula but focuses entirely on Ice teams.
It’s particularly useful if you’ve built an Ice-heavy party and want additional movement speed alongside offensive buffs.
C Tier Flying Mounts
These aren’t bad flying mounts.
They’re simply outperformed in speed or overall usefulness.
Most players naturally replace them as their collection grows.
Suzaku
Suzaku has respectable movement speed.
Its biggest advantage comes from Fire-focused teams.
Every additional Fire Pal in your party increases Suzaku’s movement speed, allowing it to perform much better than its base stats suggest.
Without those Fire teammates, however, it falls behind.
Suzaku Aqua
Very similar to Suzaku.
Instead of Fire synergy, it scales alongside Water Pals.
Players using Water-heavy builds can squeeze surprising speed from Suzaku Aqua.
Astegon
Astegon deserves special recognition.
Its movement speed isn’t particularly impressive.
However…
Its mining bonus is incredible.
While mounted, Astegon increases ore damage and resource collection, making it arguably the best exploration mount for players farming metal, coal, quartz, and sulfur.
I still keep one in my storage specifically for mining trips.
Helzephyr
Helzephyr focuses almost entirely on combat.
While mounted:
- Player attack increases
- Player attacks become Dark-type
If you’re not interested in mounted combat, its slower movement makes it difficult to recommend over higher-tier options.
Helzephyr Lux
Helzephyr Lux trades Dark attacks for Electric damage.
Otherwise, it performs similarly to the standard version.
Useful for Electric builds.
Less impressive for exploration.
Elphidran
Elphidran is one of the earliest flying mounts many players upgrade into.
It offers decent flying speed while also increasing drops from Dark-type Pals.
Although eventually replaced, it’s incredibly helpful during early progression.
Elphidran Aqua
Elphidran Aqua is much more interesting.
Instead of boosting drops, it provides passive bonuses while simply remaining in your party.
These include:
- Increased movement speed while flying
- Fire resistance
- Burn immunity
- Reduced Fire damage taken
Those defensive bonuses remain useful throughout the game.
Dynamoff
Dynamoff sits near the bottom because it simply doesn’t excel anywhere.
It’s usable.
It flies.
It fights reasonably well.
It just doesn’t outperform other options.
D Tier Flying Mounts
These are the first flying mounts most players will eventually retire.
That doesn’t make them bad.
They’re simply stepping stones toward stronger flyers.
Vanwyrm
Vanwyrm is a great beginner combat mount.
While mounted, your attacks deal increased weak-point damage, making early Alpha fights easier.
Unfortunately, its movement speed feels sluggish once you’ve experienced higher-tier flyers.
Vanwyrm Cryst
Very similar to Vanwyrm.
It retains the weak-point bonus but trades Fire typing for Ice.
Useful early.
Quickly replaced later.
Nitewing
Technology Level: 15
Best For: First Flying Mount
Every Palworld player remembers Nitewing.
It’s usually the first flying mount players unlock, and honestly, it does exactly what it needs to do.
It opens the world.
It lets you reach cliffs, islands, and fast-travel points that were previously inaccessible.
For the early game, that’s more than enough.
Eventually, though, you’ll notice just how slow it feels compared to literally every other flying Pal.
Still, don’t underestimate how important Nitewing is. Almost everyone’s flying journey starts here, even if it doesn’t end here.
Flying Mounts With Special Effects
Speed is the first thing most players look at when choosing a flying mount, but it’s definitely not the only thing that matters. Some Pals increase material drops, others buff your attacks, while a few completely change how you approach combat.
I’ve ended up keeping multiple flying mounts in my Pal Box instead of using just one because certain Partner Skills are simply too useful to ignore. If you’re only looking at movement speed, you’re missing a huge part of what makes some of these Pals so valuable.
Here’s a closer look at the different categories of flying mounts and what they bring to your adventure.
Flying Mounts That Increase Material Drops
These Pals are fantastic for farming specific resources. If you’re planning to grind crafting materials or hunt particular Pal types, bringing one of these can noticeably improve your rewards.
Elphidran
Partner Skill: Amicable Holy Dragon
Bonus
- Increases drops from Dark-type Pals
- Can also be ridden as a flying mount
Elphidran isn’t one of the fastest flyers anymore, but I still occasionally pull it out whenever I need Dark-type materials. The bonus applies simply by having it as your active Pal, making resource farming noticeably more efficient.
Best For
- Farming Dark-type drops
- Mid-game exploration
Faleris
Partner Skill: Scorching Predator
Bonus
- Increases drops from Ice-type Pals
If you’re collecting Ice Organs or hunting Ice creatures for crafting resources, Faleris becomes incredibly valuable. Even once you’ve upgraded to faster flyers, keeping one around for farming sessions is absolutely worth it.
Faleris Aqua
Partner Skill: Tidal Predator
Bonus
- Increases drops from Fire-type Pals
This is essentially the Fire equivalent of standard Faleris.
If your current objective involves farming Fire Pals, switching to Faleris Aqua before the fight can significantly improve efficiency over hundreds of kills.
After spending hundreds of hours exploring Palworld’s islands, Version 1.0 has made the flying mount roster more diverse than ever. While Jetragon still claims the title of the fastest mount in the game, it’s no longer the automatic best choice for every player.
For everyday exploration, I honestly found myself reaching for Xenolord more often. The slight loss in speed is barely noticeable, but the huge stamina pool makes long journeys much smoother and far less interrupted. If your goal is simply traveling across the world, Xenolord feels incredibly comfortable to use.
Combat-focused players will get tremendous value from Frostallion, Shadowbeak, and Shaolong, each offering powerful mounted bonuses that can make boss fights significantly easier. Meanwhile, specialized Pals like Astegon for mining or Faleris for farming drops remain worth keeping in your Pal Box, even if they aren’t your primary mount.
The good news is that there isn’t a single “wrong” choice. Your ideal flying mount depends on what you’re doing that day—exploring, farming, mining, or battling. As your collection grows, you’ll naturally end up switching between several of them instead of relying on just one.
