Starting your journey in Loftia can feel overwhelming at first. There are quests to complete, tools to craft, materials to gather, skills to upgrade, and a whole island to build into your own home. But once you understand the basics, the game becomes a relaxing adventure where you can progress at your own pace.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through the important systems in Loftia, from completing your first quests and unlocking new districts to crafting, farming, making Dews, and upgrading your skills. Whether you’re just starting out or looking for ways to make your early game smoother, these tips will help you get settled.
Loftia gives you plenty of freedom to choose how you play, so you don’t need to rush through everything. Follow the early quests, learn the main mechanics, and focus on the activities you enjoy most.
Loftia Beginner Guide – Progression, Energy, Farming
Loftia is a cozy multiplayer game focused on exploration, crafting, housing, farming, collecting, and community activities. You begin in Loftia City and gradually unlock new districts, tools, and gameplay systems.
The game is launching into Early Access on PC, with a Nintendo Switch release planned for a later date. You can also connect your Loftia account through the official website.
Create Your Character
Character creation offers a wide range of customization options. You can choose your appearance and personalize your character as you begin your adventure.
Don’t worry too much about getting every detail perfect at the start. You can change your appearance later and unlock additional outfits as you progress.
Follow the Starting Quests
The starting quests are the best way to learn Loftia. They introduce important mechanics, guide you to useful NPCs, and help you unlock essential features.
As you complete the early quests, you’ll learn how to:
- Gather and salvage materials.
- Craft tools and useful items.
- Use your housing plot.
- Meet important characters and access their services.
- Unlock your glider.
- Reach the second district, the Hanging Gardens.
I recommend completing the introductory quests before exploring every side activity. They provide a solid foundation without overwhelming you with too many systems at once.
Understand Loftia’s Progression
Loftia follows a straightforward progression loop:
- Explore your current district.
- Gather materials using the tools you have.
- Craft better tools and equipment.
- Use those tools to access new resources.
- Unlock new areas and gameplay systems.
- Repeat as you continue progressing.
Each district introduces new materials and opportunities, but earlier areas remain relevant because their resources are still needed for later crafting recipes.
Your Home and Housing
Your housing plot becomes available early in the game and serves as your main base. It is where you can craft, cook, farm, and decorate.
You can spend a lot of time upgrading your home and making your island feel personal. Housing is a major part of Loftia, but it is not the only way to enjoy the game. If decorating isn’t your favorite activity, there are plenty of other systems to explore.
Build Useful Stations First
As you progress, work through the recipes available at your Project Station and craft the stations and tools you need to advance.
Useful early priorities include:
- Crafting stations that unlock new recipes.
- Solar panels and other energy-producing stations.
- A rain collector for refilling your watering can.
- Storage for materials you want to save.
Upgrade your stations when you have the resources and the game allows it. Better stations unlock more crafting options and help you progress.
Explore the Districts
Loftia’s world is divided into districts, each with its own resources and activities.
Loftia City
Loftia City is your starting district. Use it to learn the basic mechanics, complete introductory quests, gather common materials, and meet important NPCs.
Hanging Gardens
The Hanging Gardens is the second district. It opens up more exploration, materials, and activities, including additional mechanics such as fishing.
The Gridfall
The Gridfall is a later district with more advanced content and resources. As you progress, you’ll need materials from earlier districts as well as the new resources found here.
Gathering and Crafting
Gathering materials is central to almost everything you do in Loftia. You’ll collect resources from the environment, salvage objects with tools, and use the materials to craft items.
Different resources require different tools or tool levels. If you cannot gather a particular material, check whether you need an upgraded tool or a new recipe.
Use the Map and Resource Information
The map is one of your most useful tools. You can view areas in your current district and hover over locations to learn what materials can be found there.
When you need a specific resource:
- Check the map for possible locations.
- Look for the required tool or tool level.
- Gather nearby materials while traveling.
- Use a database such as the Loftia Codex if you need more detailed item information.
Upgrade Your Skills
Loftia has progression skills for activities such as:
- Salvaging
- Foraging
- Crafting
- Farming
- Cooking
- Fishing
- Research
- Repairing
- Community activities
You gain experience by performing these activities. As your skills improve, you earn points that can be spent on upgrades.
Best Early Skill Priorities
I recommend starting with Salvaging and Foraging. Upgrades that improve material yields or let you carry more resources can make gathering much more efficient.
After that, invest in the activities you enjoy most. If you love farming, upgrade farming. If you prefer crafting and exploration, focus on the skills that support those playstyles.
You can experiment with the skill system without worrying about making permanent mistakes.
How to Make Dews
Dews are Loftia’s main currency. You’ll use them to buy seeds, cooking ingredients, clothing, decorations, upgrades, and other useful items.
One of the simplest ways to earn Dews early is by selling items through the delivery bin near your home.
Early Money-Making Method: Fruit Smoothies
Fruit Smoothies can be a useful early-game money-making option, depending on current recipe and selling prices.
A basic approach is:
- Gather Wild Berries from the hills in Loftia City.
- Buy Sugar from the Global Village.
- Return to your home and cook Fruit Smoothies.
- Sell the smoothies through your delivery bin.
In the demo, this method used 40 Wild Berries and 20 Sugar. At 5 Dews per Sugar and 20 Dews per smoothie, selling 20 smoothies for 400 Dews after spending 100 Dews on Sugar would give 300 Dews in gross profit, before accounting for energy and other costs.
Check current prices before investing heavily, since recipes and economy values may change during Early Access.
Plant Cotton Early
Cotton is another easy early crop to grow. Seeds cost 5 Dews and harvested Cotton sells for 10 Dews, giving you a small profit.
Plant Cotton before heading out to explore, then return to harvest it after its growing time. This is a simple way to earn a little money while doing other activities.
Farming, Cooking, and Energy
Farming and cooking use energy, so it’s worth setting up a reliable energy supply on your island.
Build Solar Panels
Solar panels and other energy-producing stations help replenish your energy. You can speak with Amani to increase how many energy-producing stations you can place, and you can upgrade your battery capacity as well.
Having more available energy makes crafting and cooking much easier.
Set Up a Rain Collector
A rain collector lets you refill your watering can at home. This saves you from having to travel elsewhere whenever you need water.
Collections and Memories
Collections are a major part of Loftia. You can work toward collecting:
- Resources, materials, and crops.
- Tools and equipment.
- Furniture and housing decorations.
- Clothing and outfits.
- Pets.
- Lore and story datapads.
- Home architecture options.
Memories function as Loftia’s achievement system. You earn them by completing story content, crafting recipes, catching fish, and reaching other milestones.
If you enjoy completionist gameplay, tracking collections and memories can provide long-term goals as you explore.
Adventures and Community Activities
Loftia includes activities beyond gathering and crafting.
Adventures
Adventures are group-based, instanced activities where you explore a unique island, complete tasks, solve puzzles, and earn rewards. They are similar to dungeon-style content in other multiplayer games.
You can participate with friends or other players and work together to complete the objectives.
World Projects
World Projects are community-wide initiatives where players contribute resources to permanently change parts of the world.
Examples include:
- Rebuilding the dome in Loftia City.
- Constructing a floating wind turbine.
- Helping with community celebrations and other projects.
You can also participate in smaller world-maintenance activities that improve areas and provide rewards.
Check the Daily Summary
The Daily Summary screen is useful when you’re unsure what to do next. It highlights available activities and can help you find something productive to work on during each session.
Loftia has a lot to discover, but you don’t need to master every system right away. Start with the introductory quests, gather materials, craft better tools, and gradually explore the new districts.
Once you have a reliable home setup, energy production, and a few upgraded skills, the rest of the game becomes much easier to manage. Whether you focus on housing, collections, adventures, farming, or community projects, there is plenty of room to make your own journey through Loftia.
