After spending a lot of time experimenting with different Species, mutations, and builds, I’ve found that every Voidling has something to offer. There aren’t any truly bad Species right now, but some definitely stand out more than others once you start pushing harder content and unlocking stronger evolutions.
This tier list focuses on the base Species themselves rather than specific mutation combinations. Things can change once you start mixing powerful mutations and modules together, but for players wondering which Voidlings are worth investing in first, these are my thoughts after playing with all of them.
S Tier
Nimiod
Nimiod is probably the Species that impressed me the most. The first time I unlocked it, I honestly wasn’t sure what to think. It looks strange, plays differently from everything else, and feels awkward for the first few missions. Then you start understanding how its abilities work together and suddenly everything clicks.
Its Primary Ability, Proximity Spark, automatically attacks nearby enemies without requiring perfect aim. The Secondary Ability, Network Extender, allows you to deploy pylons that attack alongside you and restore stamina whenever you’re close to them.
What makes Nimiod special is its movement. It can continuously jump by spending stamina, allowing it to stay airborne far longer than any other Species. While most Voidlings are running around the battlefield, Nimiod is often floating above the chaos while its pylons handle entire groups of enemies below.
The Defensive Ability, Blink Protocol, is one of the best panic buttons in the game. The short teleport grants both invisibility and invulnerability, making it excellent for escaping dangerous situations.
Its Ultimate, Instant Diffusion, floods the battlefield with six network nodes at once. During large fights this can completely take over an area.
I also love how much variety its mutations provide. Whether you’re spreading poison with spores, chaining electricity through crowds, dropping lightning strikes, or creating fields that damage everything nearby, Nimiod always feels powerful.
If you enjoy smart positioning, battlefield control, and mobility, this Species is hard to beat.
A Tier
Morfang
Morfang is pure aggression. There’s no complicated setup, no turrets, and no fancy mechanics. You get in the enemy’s face and start tearing things apart.
Every ability feels designed around one goal: staying close and dealing damage. While other Species are setting up defenses or controlling space, Morfang is already halfway through killing everything on screen.
The Pyro and Plasma mutation paths give Morfang access to some extremely powerful offensive upgrades, and it remains one of the most satisfying Species to play if you enjoy melee combat.
The only thing holding it back from S Tier is that some encounters become much harder when you’re forced to fight at close range.
Packuran
Packuran surprised me more than any other Species. At first glance it doesn’t look particularly threatening, but once you unlock more of its kit, you start realizing how much utility it actually has.
Packuran combines radiation attacks, laser beams, hatchling summons, and wormhole abilities into one package. It can pressure enemies from range while still being capable of dealing serious damage up close.
Unlike many Species that focus on one role, Packuran feels capable of adapting to almost any situation.
Ur-Sek
Ur-Sek is one of the most creative Species in the game. Instead of controlling a single creature, you’re essentially controlling two.
Ur is the larger, harder-hitting half while Sek focuses more on speed and mobility. The ability to swap between forms creates a lot of flexibility during combat.
Its Ultimate not only changes forms but also heals you, giving Ur-Sek some impressive sustain compared to other Species.
The learning curve is slightly higher than average, but players who master both forms get access to one of the most flexible kits currently available.
B Tier
Gilick
Gilick is the first Species many players will unlock, and it remains a solid choice throughout the game.
Its Primary Ability functions like a shotgun, encouraging aggressive close-range combat. The Secondary Ability helps close gaps while dealing heavy damage, and its counter-based Defensive Ability rewards good timing.
The Ultimate hits incredibly hard and can instantly delete enemies standing in front of you.
Gilick feels great to play and has some excellent mutations, but compared to the higher-ranked Species, it can sometimes feel a little one-dimensional.
Anami
Anami is one of the fastest and most agile Species in Voidling Bound.
Its toolkit revolves around mobility, homing attacks, and staying alive through movement rather than durability.
Playing Anami feels very different from tankier Species. You’re constantly moving, repositioning, and harassing enemies while avoiding direct confrontation.
It’s incredibly fun once mastered, but it can be less forgiving for newer players.
Gwigoon
Gwigoon is the summoner of Voidling Bound. Its entire identity revolves around creating copies of itself and overwhelming enemies through numbers.
Some players absolutely love this playstyle, while others may find it slower than more direct damage-focused Species.
Personally, I found Gwigoon very effective in longer fights where its clones have time to build pressure.
C Tier
Kerapin
I actually like Kerapin more than this ranking suggests, but compared to the other Species it feels a little limited. Kerapin is built around defense. Its Primary Ability, Burst Barf, fires multiple projectiles, while Explosive Fling throws delayed explosives. The Defensive Ability, Stand Your Ground, creates a shield that blocks incoming projectiles while allowing you to keep attacking.
Its Ultimate, Shellsplosion, is surprisingly fun and can deal impressive damage when used correctly.
The problem is that most difficult content eventually rewards killing enemies quickly rather than simply surviving them.
That doesn’t make Kerapin bad. In fact, it’s one of the safest Species in the game. It just doesn’t feel as impactful as some of the higher-ranked options.
Kwipeck
Being the starter Species isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean most other Species eventually outgrow it.
Kwipeck still has a very balanced kit. The rapid-fire Primary Ability feels reliable, the rocket provides decent burst damage, and its dash remains useful throughout the game.
The problem is that every other Species tends to have a stronger specialization. Nimiod controls the battlefield better, Morfang hits harder, Kerapin tanks better, and Anami moves faster.
That said, if you’re new to the game, Kwipeck remains one of the easiest and most comfortable Species to learn.
One thing I’ve really enjoyed about Voidling Bound is that every Species feels different. You’re not simply choosing a character with different numbers. You’re choosing an entirely different way to play the game.
If you want my overall recommendation, start working toward Nimiod as soon as you can. Its mobility, pylon system, and mutation options give it one of the most complete kits currently available.
That said, don’t ignore the others. Some of my most enjoyable runs have actually been with Species lower on this list. Sometimes the strongest Voidling isn’t the one at the top of a tier list, it’s the one that matches how you enjoy playing.
