Kall Fimbulbringer is the final boss of Valheim 1.0, and this is easily one of the toughest encounters in the entire game. You are not simply walking into an arena and fighting one boss. Before you can even reach Kall, you need to progress through the Deep North, gather the required materials, survive Mörkhalla, trigger the Jotun Invasion, collect Malicious Blood, and then defeat a gauntlet featuring the previous Forsaken bosses.
In this post, we will tell you everything you need to know about how to summon and beat Kall Fimbulbringer in Valheim. We will go through the preparation you should make before entering the fight, how the boss gauntlet works, which previous boss you should consider keeping alive, Kall’s attack patterns, the best weapons and armor to bring, and what rewards you receive after winning.
I would strongly recommend treating this encounter as a full endgame expedition rather than a normal boss fight. If we prepare properly, bring backup gear, manage our stamina, and understand when to attack and when to dodge, the fight becomes much more manageable. Let’s go through the entire process step by step.
Valheim 1.0 Kall Fimbulbringer Guide – Location, Summon
Before we can fight Kall Fimbulbringer, we need to complete several important steps in the Deep North. The general progression looks like this:
- Craft an Intricate Key.
- Enter Mörkhalla.
- Trigger the Jotun Invasion.
- Collect 3 Malicious Blood.
- Offer the blood at the altar.
- Clear the previous-boss gauntlet.
- Prepare yourself before approaching Kall.
The preparation takes time, so I would avoid rushing into the final area until you have your equipment and supplies ready.
Craft an Intricate Key
Our first major goal is finding the mould for the Intricate Key.
You can find this by entering the Winding Tunnels through the back of the largest structure in an Abandoned Homestead. Explore the tunnels carefully until you locate the mould.
The Winding Tunnels are important for more than just the key. You can also find Frost Cores here, which are needed for the Frost Foundry and Frigid Kiln, along with moulds for Nord weapons.
Deep North equipment follows its own crafting progression. Once we obtain the appropriate moulds, we can turn them into casts and forge the equipment using Bloodgold.
Bloodgold comes from processing Petrified Tissue in a Blast Furnace. To get Petrified Tissue, you need to mine petrified Gammeltrolls using Ember Charges made from Seal Pelts and Embers.
Once you have the mould and create the required cast, you can craft the Intricate Key. This key is what allows us to open the Gates of Mörkhalla.
Enter Mörkhalla and Trigger the Jotun Invasion
The next destination is Mörkhalla.
You need to search the stone structures scattered throughout the Deep North mountains until you find a gate leading into the dungeon. Use your Intricate Key to unlock the chained gate and enter.
Mörkhalla is a long and dangerous dungeon, so I highly recommend setting up a protected portal outside before going inside. Keep a chest nearby containing backup weapons, armor, food, and other supplies.
This will save you a lot of frustration if you die and need to recover your equipment.
Continue through Mörkhalla until you reach the bottom. Here, you can find a Malicious Ice and a Vegvisir that helps locate the Aesir Passage.
Vegvisirs can also appear near Ancient Altars in the Deep North.
Destroying the Malicious Ice inside Mörkhalla triggers a Jotun Invasion somewhere on the map.
Collect 3 Malicious Blood
After triggering the Jotun Invasion, another Malicious Ice will appear at the invasion location.
Destroy it to obtain Malicious Blood.
You need a total of 3 Malicious Blood for the final altar, so make sure you collect and store them safely.
Do not carry them around unnecessarily while exploring dangerous areas. I would put them in a secure chest until you are ready to continue toward the final encounter.
Once all three offerings are ready, we can move on to the altar outside the Aesir Passage.
Offer the Blood and Enter The Prison
Take your 3 Malicious Blood to the altar and offer them there.
This unlocks the Aesir Passage.
Go through the passage to enter The Prison, which is where the final sequence begins.
However, Kall does not immediately attack you.
Instead, entering the arena begins a boss gauntlet featuring every previous Forsaken boss.
Before making the offering and entering the final area, I strongly recommend doing one final preparation check:
- Eat fresh food.
- Repair every weapon.
- Repair your shield.
- Bring enough meads.
- Refresh your resistance effects.
- Activate or prepare your Forsaken Power.
- Make sure everyone in multiplayer is ready.
There is no comfortable pause during the gauntlet, so preparation matters a lot.
The good news is that after defeating the final boss in the gauntlet, you get time to recover before approaching Kall.
How the Previous Boss Gauntlet Works
The encounter begins with Eikthyr alone, but additional bosses eventually enter the arena.
The important mechanic here is that two boss slots can remain active later in the gauntlet.
This means we can make the later stages easier by deliberately keeping The Elder or Bonemass alive while focusing on every newly arriving boss.
This may sound strange at first, but it prevents you from accidentally replacing an easier boss with a much more dangerous late-game opponent.
Keep The Elder or Bonemass Alive
When The Elder and Bonemass appear, choose the one that is easier for your build to manage.
Then leave that boss alive while defeating every newly spawned boss.
For many players, The Elder is easier to preserve because you can keep moving and avoid its vines.
Bonemass can also work, especially if you have Poison Resistance and enough movement speed to stay away from its poison cloud.
The important thing is to avoid accidentally killing the boss you decided to preserve.
Be especially careful with:
- Large area attacks.
- Explosives.
- Wide magic attacks.
- Uncontrolled summons.
If you accidentally defeat your preserved boss, another and potentially more dangerous boss can take its place.
That can leave you fighting two difficult late-game Forsaken at the same time.
Previous Boss Order and Basic Strategy
Here is how I would approach the returning bosses during the gauntlet.
Eikthyr
Eikthyr is the opening boss and should be the easiest part of the encounter.
Block or dodge its close-range attacks and avoid wasting valuable healing or resistance supplies during this phase.
The Elder
The Elder uses dangerous vines and roots.
Keep moving and strafe away from ranged vines rather than standing still and trying to fight through every attack.
If you are preserving The Elder as your easier active boss, simply manage its attacks while focusing on the newly arriving enemies.
Bonemass
Bonemass is vulnerable to Blunt damage.
Use a strong mace or another Blunt weapon and stay away from its Poison cloud.
If you are keeping Bonemass alive as your preserved boss, do not accidentally hit it while clearing dangerous summons.
Moder
Moder becomes much easier if you have a reliable ranged weapon.
Attack while she is airborne using your bow or crossbow, then take advantage of safe melee opportunities when she lands.
Yagluth
Watch carefully for meteor warnings and move away before the attacks land.
Avoid standing in lingering fire and attack between Yagluth’s large attack animations.
The Queen
The Queen can overwhelm you with summoned enemies.
Control the Seekers before they surround you, then punish The Queen when she misses an attack or leaves herself exposed.
Fader
Keep moving around the arena and avoid getting trapped by summons.
Frost damage can be useful during safe attack windows.
The main strategy for the entire gauntlet is simple: preserve The Elder or Bonemass if they are manageable for your build, then eliminate every more dangerous boss that appears afterward.
Prepare Before Approaching Kall
After defeating the final boss in the gauntlet, do not immediately run toward Kall.
This is your recovery window.
Kall remains inactive until a player approaches him, so use this time properly.
I would use the break to:
- Heal completely.
- Recover stamina.
- Recover Eitr if using magic.
- Eat fresh food if needed.
- Refresh resistance meads.
- Check weapon durability.
- Check shield durability.
- Prepare important cooldowns.
- Make sure your multiplayer team is ready.
If your main weapon is close to breaking, switch to a repaired backup before starting the final fight.
Once you approach Kall, the encounter begins.
How to Beat Kall Fimbulbringer
Kall is dangerous because the fight constantly tests your stamina management and positioning.
The best approach is not to attack constantly.
Instead, we need to stay patient, watch his attacks, defend against the moves that can be blocked, and save stamina for the attacks that absolutely require dodging.
Keep a Medium Distance From the Tendrils
Kall can summon dangerous roots or tendrils around the arena.
These punish players at both extremes.
If you stand too close, they can slam you.
If you move too far away, they can fire Lightning Bolts.
The safest position is usually a medium distance.
Stay close enough that you can reposition quickly without triggering unnecessary ranged attacks, but far enough away to avoid the close-range slam.
Do not sprint across the entire arena unless you absolutely need to.
Instead, reposition around the fight and move toward Kall only when you see a clear opening.
Block or Parry Kall’s Chain Attacks
Many of Kall’s close-range chain attacks can be blocked or parried.
Watch the chain itself rather than focusing only on Kall’s body.
Try to defend just before the attack connects.
Holding your shield up for the entire animation can waste stamina, especially during such a long encounter.
A well-timed block or parry is much more efficient.
After the final swing, you usually have a short opportunity to attack.
Do not become greedy, though. A few safe hits are better than spending all your stamina and getting caught by the next attack.
Dodge Ice Fall
Ice Fall is one of the attacks you should not try to handle like a normal chain strike.
Kall calls down multiple ice spikes across the arena.
Keep moving and navigate between the falling spikes until the barrage ends.
I would avoid attacking during the wind-up.
Wait until the attack finishes, then use the recovery period as your opportunity to deal damage.
Dodge Corkscrew Launch
Corkscrew Launch is another dangerous movement attack.
Kall launches forward in a spinning attack that can catch and throw you.
The best response is to dodge sideways across its path.
Do not simply roll backward and hope to escape.
Once the attack misses, Kall gives you another useful punish window.
Wait for the attack to finish before committing to your combo.
Always Keep Stamina in Reserve
One of the biggest mistakes you can make against Kall is spending your entire stamina bar attacking.
Never use your final stamina on one extra hit unless you are completely certain you are safe.
Kall can immediately follow with:
- Ice Fall.
- Corkscrew Launch.
- Tendril attacks.
- Lightning attacks.
You need stamina to survive.
Walk whenever the arena is safe and use short sprints only when you need to escape danger.
Let your stamina regenerate while Kall is recovering from attacks.
The Rested effect is extremely valuable for this encounter.
I would also bring Lingering Stamina Mead, especially because the Kall fight happens after an entire boss gauntlet.
Use Neckstabber With Fader Power
If you are using an aggressive build, Neckstabber can be extremely powerful.
Neckstabber activates when you reach 65 Adrenaline.
When activated, it:
- Restores 100 Health.
- Grants 20 Armor.
- Increases health regeneration by 20%.
- Reduces running stamina usage by 10%.
- Reduces attack stamina usage by 10%.
- Lasts for 30 seconds.
The long boss gauntlet makes it easier to build the Adrenaline needed to activate the effect.
For an even stronger combination, pair Neckstabber with Fader Power.
Fader Power doubles your Adrenaline gain, helping Neckstabber activate more frequently.
However, if you are struggling to activate it consistently, I would switch to a defensive trinket instead of sacrificing survivability for an effect that rarely triggers.
Best Multiplayer Strategy for Kall
Multiplayer can make the encounter easier, but only if everyone understands their role.
I would recommend dividing responsibilities.
Anchor
The Anchor should use defensive equipment, a strong shield, and appropriate resistance effects.
Their main job is to manage the preserved Elder or Bonemass without accidentally defeating it.
Focus Damage
The damage player should focus on every newly spawned boss during the gauntlet.
For Kall, they should attack only during safe recovery windows.
A strong Nord melee weapon with a ranged backup works well here.
Ranged or Magic Player
A ranged or magic player is especially useful against distant targets and bosses such as Moder.
They should be careful with uncontrolled area damage near the boss you are intentionally preserving.
Support
The support player can help manage healing supplies, call out attack telegraphs, rotate Forsaken Powers, and control dangerous summons.
During the Kall fight, spread out enough that one Ice Fall or Lightning attack cannot hit the entire group.
At the same time, stay close enough to help teammates when someone gets launched or overwhelmed.
Kall Fimbulbringer Attack Patterns
Kall has four major attacks you should learn before committing to a long damage combo.
Chain Attacks
Kall uses chained close-range attacks.
These can generally be blocked or parried.
Defend just before impact and attack only after the final swing.
Summoned Tendrils
The tendrils punish players who stand too close or too far away.
Stay at a medium distance and reposition whenever they begin attacking.
Ice Fall
Ice spikes rain down across the arena.
Keep moving until the barrage finishes.
Corkscrew Launch
Kall launches forward in a spinning attack.
Dodge sideways across the path rather than rolling straight backward.
Best Preparation Before Fighting Kall
I would not recommend fighting Kall until you have completed the main Deep North equipment progression.
This encounter is much longer than a normal boss battle because you first need to survive the entire gauntlet.
Before entering, make sure you have:
- Several fully upgraded Nord weapons.
- Fully upgraded Deep North armor.
- A strong late-game shield.
- Neckstabber or another useful trinket.
- Three strong Deep North foods.
- Resistance meads.
- The Rested effect.
- A suitable Forsaken Power.
- A protected portal.
- Backup equipment.
Bring Several Fully Upgraded Nord Weapons
One weapon is not enough for the entire gauntlet.
Different returning bosses have different resistances and weaknesses.
I would bring several weapon types.
Your main weapon can be a fully upgraded Nord Sword, Nord Axe, or Nord Mace based on your highest combat skill.
You should also consider bringing:
- A Blunt weapon for Bonemass.
- A Nord Bow or Crossbow for Moder and ranged opportunities.
- Magic weapons for Eitr builds.
- Different elemental damage options if available.
The gauntlet is too varied to rely on one damage type.
Choose the Right Deep North Armor
Your armor should match your playstyle.
Protector Set
The Protector Set provides the highest physical protection and is one of the safest options for a first clear.
This works especially well for defensive melee players.
Vanguard Set
The Vanguard Set is better suited for ranged players who can attack safely while someone else manages enemy attention.
Caller Set
The Caller Set is the best choice for players focusing on Deep North magic weapons.
It provides useful Eitr regeneration while still offering good protection.
Even magic players should remember to save stamina for dodging Ice Fall and Corkscrew Launch.
The Moose Hide Cape is also a strong standard option for Deep North exploration and combat.
Best Trinkets for the Fight
Neckstabber is excellent if you can consistently build enough Adrenaline.
However, defensive alternatives can be safer.
Evasion Mantle
This is useful for players who rely heavily on blocking and parrying.
It reduces block stamina usage and improves your Parry Bonus when active.
Crystal Heart
Crystal Heart provides additional resistance against Blunt, Slash, and Pierce damage when triggered.
Brimstone
Brimstone can provide emergency Health and Stamina restoration after reaching its required Adrenaline level.
For a first clear, I would choose survivability over maximum damage.
Best Food and Meads for Kall
Food and meads matter throughout both the gauntlet and the final Kall encounter.
For a high-health setup, consider:
- Smoked Moose Meat.
- Seal Meat Soup.
- Lingonberry Juice.
Magic players can use:
- Meatballs and Poteitr.
- Oatmeal.
- Seal Meat Soup.
You should also bring:
- Poison Resistance Mead for Bonemass.
- Fire Resistance Barley Wine for Yagluth and Fader.
- Major Healing Mead.
- Lingering Stamina Mead.
- Lingering Eitr Mead for magic builds.
I would avoid Berserkir Mead on a first attempt.
The stamina benefits can be tempting, but the additional physical weakness makes mistakes much more dangerous during a fight involving multiple bosses.
Best Forsaken Power for Kall
The best Forsaken Power depends on your build.
Fader Power
Fader Power is the best offensive choice for a Neckstabber build.
It doubles Adrenaline gain and also provides Fire resistance.
Bonemass Power
Bonemass Power is one of the safest choices for a solo attempt.
It provides resistance to Blunt, Slash, and Pierce damage while also helping with stamina management when blocking.
For a first clear, this is probably the more forgiving option.
Yagluth Power
Yagluth Power provides Lightning resistance.
Use this if Lightning Bolts from Kall’s tendrils are causing most of your deaths.
In multiplayer, I would recommend bringing different Forsaken Powers and rotating them rather than activating everything at once.
Build a Safe Portal and Keep Backup Equipment
Before entering Mörkhalla, build a protected portal nearby.
Keep backup equipment in a chest.
This should include:
- Weapons.
- Armor.
- Food.
- Meads.
- Ammunition.
The portal should be far enough away that hostile enemies cannot easily destroy it.
Repair everything before entering The Prison.
The complete boss gauntlet can last long enough to seriously damage your equipment.
I would always carry at least one repaired backup weapon.
Kall Fimbulbringer Rewards
Defeating Kall Fimbulbringer gives you several important rewards.
You receive:
- The Crown of Valheim recipe.
- Crown Jewel.
- Sacrificial Blood.
The Crown Jewel is required to craft the Crown of Valheim.
How to Craft and Use the Crown of Valheim
After defeating Kall, collect the Crown Jewel to unlock the crafting recipe.
Craft the Crown of Valheim and equip it.
The crown gives you the Royalty effect, which prevents creatures from harming you.
It also provides:
- 50 Armor.
- 5% increased movement speed.
- 20% reduced attack stamina usage.
- 20% reduced swimming stamina usage.
- 20% reduced sneaking stamina usage.
- 20% reduced running stamina usage.
This makes exploring the completed world much easier.
What to Do After Beating Kall
Once you defeat Valheim’s final boss and activate the Royalty effect, the world becomes a much calmer place.
You can explore without constantly being attacked by creatures.
This gives you time to focus on activities such as:
- Building.
- Gathering materials.
- Farming.
- Fishing.
- Taming animals.
- Expanding settlements.
- Completing achievements.
- Exploring unfinished dungeons.
- Collecting missed equipment.
It is essentially a peaceful postgame sandbox.
If you want enemies to become dangerous again, simply remove the Crown of Valheim.
When Should You Fight Kall Fimbulbringer?
I would only fight Kall after completing the main Deep North crafting progression.
You should have collected weapon moulds from the Winding Tunnels and Mörkhalla, armor moulds from Abandoned Homesteads or other Deep North sources, and enough Bloodgold to forge and upgrade your equipment.
Important materials include:
Weapon Moulds
Found primarily in the Winding Tunnels and Mörkhalla.
Armor Moulds
Search wardrobes inside Abandoned Homesteads.
Frost Cores
Found in the Winding Tunnels and required for the Frost Foundry and Frigid Kiln.
Petrified Tissue
Obtained by mining petrified Gammeltrolls using Ember Charges.
Bloodgold
Created by processing Petrified Tissue in a Blast Furnace.
Maximum upgrades are strongly recommended.
This is not a short single-boss encounter. The combined gauntlet and Kall fight can consume a lot of durability, food, ammunition, and meads.
Kall Fimbulbringer is a difficult final encounter, but the fight becomes much easier when we stop treating it like a normal boss battle.
The biggest challenge is managing the entire journey. We need to survive Mörkhalla, collect Malicious Blood, clear the previous Forsaken gauntlet, preserve an easier boss when necessary, and then enter Kall’s fight with enough health, stamina, food, and equipment remaining.
During the final battle, stay patient. Keep a medium distance from the tendrils, block or parry the chain attacks, dodge Ice Fall and Corkscrew Launch, and never spend all your stamina on damage.
If you prepare your Deep North gear properly and use the recovery period after the gauntlet before approaching Kall, you will give yourself the best possible chance of defeating Valheim’s final boss and claiming the Crown of Valheim.
