Make sure to bring a reliable pickaxe and keep your eyes peeled for environmental clues before you step foot into the darkened village. Knowing what to look for makes all the difference when the chase begins.
How to Defeat the Daruma Doll in Village in the Shade

When entering the village on a night where the Daruma Doll has spawned, you will notice that the entire area is filled with stones that can be broken with your pickaxe. Once you step foot inside, a giant red Daruma Doll will drop from the sky and immediately start chasing you.
Your standard running speed is significantly faster than the doll, and it struggles to navigate around the cluster of rocks, making direct pursuits easy to outmaneuver. The real danger comes from its gaze attack, which triggers every thirty seconds or so as it chants about falling down, covering your screen in a red visual effect. Any movement while this red effect is active will damage your character, so stopping dead in your tracks is mandatory.
To defeat the creature, you must search the village for a unique rock that stands out from the standard pure white stones you normally smash with your pickaxe. This special target features a cracked, brownish center instead of the clean white texture, and it spawns in a completely randomized location every single night.
Your standard pickaxe attacks will initially bounce off this strange stone while it remains dormant. However, the moment the Daruma Doll opens its eye following the chanting phase, the cracked stone will temporarily transform into a miniature black daruma doll.
While the target is transformed into the black Daruma Doll, deliver a swift strike with your pickaxe to shatter it and instantly defeat the giant red entity. As soon as the main boss vanishes from the area, your hard-earned reward will drop directly from the broken smaller doll.
Your very first victory against the boss grants you a useful scarecrow for your farm setup. Subsequent night hunts yield random drops including house decorations, multiple magatamas, or several dorotabo seeds.
