If you are playing Soulrift and are wondering which character you should use, this guide is for you. There are quite a few characters in the game, and they all have their own strengths, weaknesses, and playstyles.
In this post, we will go through the current Soulrift character tier list and explain what makes each character worth using. I’ll also show you how you can unlock every character currently available, whether you need Souls or have to complete a quest.
Keep in mind that this ranking is based on the current state of the game. As more players test the characters and new updates arrive, some characters can move up or down the tier list.
Soulrift Characters Tier List – Best Units & Unlock Guide
At the moment, Soulrift has 11 playable characters. You have two characters available from the start, while the rest need to be purchased or unlocked through quests.
For the current meta, I would put Sunder, Raiden, Nyx, Lumina, and Clockwork in S Tier.
S Tier
- Sunder
- Raiden
- Nyx
- Lumina
- Clockwork
These are the characters I would look at first if you want a strong option for boss fights.
Sunder is all about close-range damage and can hit extremely hard. Raiden is more flexible since he can fight from different ranges and has great mobility. Nyx can build up Blood and use it for huge burst damage, while Lumina gives you strong ranged damage.
Clockwork is a little different from the others. He isn’t simply there to deal as much damage as possible. His buffs can make the entire team stronger, which makes him especially useful when you are fighting bosses with other players.
A Tier

- Scar
- Ricochet
- Reviva
A Tier characters are still very good, but each one has a more specific role.
Crystal has a nice mix of range and AoE, making her useful when you need to deal with multiple enemies or keep your distance. Scar is great if you like fire attacks and damage-over-time effects.
Ricochet is extremely fast and can throw out attacks quickly, although his individual hits aren’t as powerful.
Then you have Reviva, who is incredibly useful in team fights. Her damage isn’t the main reason you pick her. Healing and reviving teammates can completely change the outcome of a difficult boss fight.
B Tier
- Zephyr
- Cross
Zephyr and Cross are the two characters you start with, so don’t think you need to unlock another character immediately.
Zephyr is the better fit if you like getting up close with a sword, while Cross lets you stay at range and use lasers and grenades.
They can absolutely get you through the early game. The reason I have them lower on the list is mainly because the later characters have more specialized and powerful kits.

Now let’s take a closer look at each character and how you can unlock them.
Zephyr
How to unlock: Starting character
Base Health: 110
Zephyr is one of the first characters you can use and is built around sword combat.
I like Zephyr as a beginner option because you don’t have to worry about unlocking anything before using him. His kit lets you fight up close while also giving you ranged slashing attacks.
He also has 110 HP, which gives you a little more room to make mistakes while you’re learning the bosses.
If you’re new to Soulrift and enjoy fast sword combat, Zephyr is a perfectly fine character to start with.
Cross
How to unlock: Starting character
Base Health: 100
Cross is the other starting character.
Instead of using a sword like Zephyr, Cross focuses on ranged combat. His attacks include lasers and grenades, so you can spend more time attacking from a distance.
This can make Cross a comfortable choice while you’re learning boss attack patterns. You don’t always have to stand directly in front of a boss to deal damage.
His base HP is 100, so just make sure you’re still paying attention to incoming attacks.
Reviva
How to unlock: Buy from the Shop for 250 Souls
Base Health: 80
Reviva is the character I would look at if you want to play a proper support role.
Her main job is keeping everyone else alive. She has healing abilities and can even revive teammates, which can be incredibly valuable during difficult boss fights.
The downside is her 80 base HP. You don’t want to play Reviva like a frontline DPS character because she doesn’t have the same room for mistakes.
Stay safe, support your team, and let your teammates handle the heavy damage.
Sunder
How to unlock: Buy from the Shop for 1,000 Souls
Base Health: 125
If all you care about is damage, Sunder is one of the first characters I’d consider.
Sunder is a close-range DPS character designed to hit extremely hard. He also has 125 base HP, giving him the highest health among the characters listed here.
That combination is pretty nice. You can get into melee range, deal serious damage, and still have a decent amount of health to work with.
The main thing is learning how to avoid boss attacks. If you’re comfortable staying close to enemies, Sunder can be a monster.
Ricochet
How to unlock: Buy from the Shop for 1,500 Souls
Base Health: 90
Ricochet takes the ranged DPS approach but plays very differently from Cross.
His biggest advantage is his attack speed. He can throw out attacks incredibly quickly, although individual attacks don’t hit as hard.
I would use Ricochet if you enjoy constantly attacking and moving rather than waiting for one huge ability.
He also has a fairly flexible kit, so you aren’t locked into one situation during a fight.
Clockwork
How to unlock: Complete the Awakening Quest
Base Health: 90
Clockwork is one of those characters that becomes more valuable when you’re playing with a good team.
His main purpose is providing useful buffs rather than simply trying to top the damage charts.
Some of his known buffs include:
- Acceleration
- Immunity
- Movement Boost
These effects can be extremely useful during boss fights where positioning and movement are important.
If you’re playing Soulrift with friends, I would definitely consider having a Clockwork player on the team.
Lumina
How to unlock: Buy from the Shop for 2,500 Souls
Base Health: 90
Lumina is a ranged damage dealer with a very impressive attack range.
If you don’t like standing directly next to bosses, Lumina is one of the characters worth looking at. She can stay far away while still putting out strong damage.
The main issue is her cooldowns. Her strongest abilities aren’t something you can constantly spam, so you need to think about when you use them.
If you learn how to manage those cooldowns properly, Lumina can be extremely strong.
Crystal
How to unlock: Complete the A Tundra Menace Quest
Base Health: 100
Crystal uses ice and snow-based attacks and has a pretty flexible kit.
What I like about Crystal is that she isn’t restricted to one range. She has options for both close and long-range combat, along with strong AoE abilities.
That makes her useful when you’re dealing with groups of enemies or when a boss forces you to constantly change your position.
If you want a character that gives you plenty of options during a fight, Crystal is a good choice.
Nyx
How to unlock: Complete the Greater Heights Quest
Base Health: 80
Nyx is another close-range DPS character, but she has a special mechanic that makes her stand out.
Her Blood meter builds up as you fight. Once you have enough Blood, you can use it to unleash a powerful burst of damage.
This gives Nyx some serious damage potential, especially during longer boss fights.
The catch is her 80 HP. You can’t afford to mindlessly stand next to a boss and take hits.
If you are confident with dodging and positioning, Nyx can be extremely rewarding.
Raiden
How to unlock: Buy from the Shop for 4,000 Souls
Base Health: 110
Raiden is probably one of the most well-rounded characters currently available.
He has both melee and ranged attacks, so you’re not forced to play the same way throughout an entire fight.
His mobility is another huge advantage. Raiden has a grappling hook, which lets him quickly reposition himself around the battlefield.
That can be extremely useful when a boss throws out a large AoE attack and you need to get out of the danger zone quickly.
The biggest downside is the price. At 4,000 Souls, Raiden is currently the most expensive character available in the Shop.
Still, if you want one character that can do a bit of everything, he’s worth considering.
Scar
How to unlock: Complete the Burning Soul Quest
Base Health: 105
Scar is the fire-based character of the roster.
His attacks can apply Burn, allowing him to continue dealing damage over time after hitting an enemy.
He also has strong AoE attacks, which makes him particularly useful when there are multiple enemies around.
With 105 base HP, Scar is also reasonably durable compared with some of the more fragile characters.
If you like fire abilities and damage-over-time effects, Scar is definitely worth unlocking.
How to Get Characters in Soulrift
There are currently two main ways to unlock characters.
You can either purchase them using Souls or complete specific quests.
Characters You Can Buy With Souls
These characters are currently available through the Shop:
- Reviva — 250 Souls
- Sunder — 1,000 Souls
- Ricochet — 1,500 Souls
- Lumina — 2,500 Souls
- Raiden — 4,000 Souls
If you’re saving Souls, think about what type of character you actually want before spending everything.
For example, don’t save up 4,000 Souls for Raiden if what you really want is a dedicated support character like Reviva.
Characters Unlocked Through Quests
The following characters require specific quests:
- Clockwork — Awakening Quest
- Crystal — A Tundra Menace Quest
- Nyx — Greater Heights Quest
- Scar — Burning Soul Quest
So, if one of these characters catches your attention, you should start working toward their quest instead of waiting for them to appear in the Shop.
Best Character for DPS
For pure close-range damage, Sunder is one of my top picks.
He has high damage and the highest base HP among the current roster, which makes him easier to work with than some of the more fragile DPS characters.
Nyx is another great choice if you know how to use her Blood mechanic. Her burst damage can be huge, but you need better positioning because of her low HP.
If you prefer staying at range, Lumina is the character I’d look at first. Her range gives you more freedom during boss fights, although you have to manage her cooldowns carefully.
Best Character for Support
For support, I’d go with Reviva or Clockwork.
Reviva is focused on keeping your teammates alive through healing and revives. That makes her extremely useful when a boss fight starts going sideways.
Clockwork is more about buffs. His acceleration, immunity, and movement-related utility can make the entire team more effective.
So, the choice really depends on what your team needs. If people are constantly dying, Reviva is the obvious pick. If everyone is surviving but needs more utility, Clockwork can be a better fit.
Best Characters for Beginners
If you’re completely new to Soulrift, I recommend starting with Zephyr or Cross.
You don’t need to spend Souls or complete any quests to use either of them, which gives you plenty of time to learn how the game works.
Go with Zephyr if you enjoy melee sword combat.
Pick Cross if you would rather stay at range and attack with lasers and grenades.
Once you’ve learned the bosses and started earning Souls, you can then decide which character fits your preferred playstyle.

There are 11 characters available right now, and there isn’t really one character that is perfect for every situation. Sunder is excellent for raw damage, Raiden gives you a strong mix of damage and mobility, while Nyx can deliver huge burst damage if you can manage her Blood mechanic.
For team play, Reviva and Clockwork are both extremely useful, while characters such as Crystal and Scar give you strong AoE options.
And if you are just starting out, don’t worry about having one of the top-tier characters immediately. Zephyr and Cross are more than enough to help you learn the game and start progressing.
As Soulrift gets updated and players discover more about each character, the rankings can definitely change. For now, use the tier list as a starting point and choose the character that actually fits the way you like to play.
