If you’re making your way through Mortal Shell 2, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve already realized that the game has a lot more bosses than the main story encounters alone would suggest.
There are major bosses that push the story forward, but there are also plenty of optional fights tucked away in caves, dungeons, side areas, and around different Beacons. Some of them are easy to walk past, while others are hard to miss.
So if you’re trying to work through the game without leaving a boss behind, this guide covers the Mortal Shell 2 bosses in order, including the major encounters, regional bosses, locations, and rewards.

How Many Bosses Are in Mortal Shell 2?
At the current point of the game, there are 44 bosses listed across Mortal Shell 2.
That includes the major encounters as well as the various optional and regional bosses.
Some fights can be easy to overlook because they’re tied to specific Beacons, dungeons, or side areas, so don’t assume you’ve cleared an entire region just because you’ve defeated its main boss.
If you’re aiming for completion, it’s worth checking the regional sections as you progress rather than trying to remember everything at the very end.
Level Up Before Taking on Difficult Bosses
Before you run back into a boss that has already flattened you three times, take a second to look at your Harbinger.
Spending your accumulated Gloom on leveling can increase your health and damage, making both you and your current Shell more effective.
You’ll also receive Skill Points that can be used to unlock Shell Abilities.
This is particularly useful because you can shape your Shell around the type of damage or playstyle you’re actually using. For example, you might invest into Lightning-focused abilities with Proxima or lean into Poison-related options with Tiel.
Sometimes the answer isn’t “I need to get better at this boss.”
Sometimes you just need another upgrade.
Upgrade Your Weapons and Tarstones
Don’t forget about your equipment either.
Weapons and Sidearms can be upgraded at the Tarforge in Marrow Keep, although you’ll need materials such as Ventrium and Laterite, along with Coin.
Tarstones work a little differently.
They level up by defeating enemies while the Tarstone is equipped. As they gain levels, their effects become stronger and additional bonuses can unlock.
So if you’re about to spend a long time exploring an area, it’s worth equipping the Tarstone you actually want to improve.
Use Break Damage to Create Big Openings
One of the most important mechanics to understand during boss fights is Break Damage.
You can build up Break Damage through Skills and parrying. Once the boss’s Break Gauge is filled, you can perform a Riposte.
And this isn’t just a little extra damage.
A successful Riposte can take a sizeable chunk out of a boss’s health and gives you a valuable opening to turn the fight in your favor.
So don’t look at parrying purely as a defensive technique. Against the right boss, it’s also one of your best ways to create offensive opportunities.
Keep Your Resolve Gauge Ready
Your Resolve is the orange bar above your health, and you’ll be using it for things such as Skills and ranged weapons.
The mistake is spending it all whenever you get the chance and then entering the next phase of a fight with nothing available.
Try to balance your Skills and ranged attacks with regular attacks so you can keep generating Resolve throughout the encounter.
Also, keep an eye out for Resolve Branches before boss arenas.
Some bosses have one positioned nearby, and hitting it can give you full Resolve before you enter the fight. If you find one, take advantage of it. Starting a boss battle with a full resource bar is much better than walking into the arena empty.
Dodge Red Attacks
Finally, pay close attention to red attacks.
These attacks are unblockable, so trying to stand your ground and parry them is a great way to lose a large chunk of your health.
When you see one coming, dodge in the appropriate direction and use your dodge’s invulnerability frames to get through the attack safely.
Once you start recognizing these attacks early, boss fights become much less chaotic.
The biggest thing is not to panic. Watch the boss, recognize the attack, and react accordingly.
Mortal Shell 2 has a lot of bosses to discover, and the major story encounters are only a portion of what you can actually fight.
If you’re progressing through the game normally, following the major boss order above should give you a good route. But if you’re going for full completion, take your time exploring each region because plenty of optional encounters are hidden away from the obvious path.
And when a boss starts giving you trouble, don’t immediately assume you need to brute-force it. Upgrade your Shell, improve your weapon, keep your Resolve available, look for Break opportunities, and learn which attacks you can and can’t defend against.
A little preparation can make a boss that seemed impossible five minutes ago feel surprisingly manageable.
