Fishing is one of the easiest and most rewarding activities in Moonlight Peaks. Besides being a relaxing way to spend the night, it provides a steady source of Coins, restores Energy through cooked or consumed fish, and helps you complete your collection. It’s especially useful during the early game when you’re looking for a reliable way to earn money without spending many resources.
This guide covers how to unlock fishing, how the fishing minigame works, and every fish currently available in Moonlight Peaks.
Note: Moonlight Peaks is still receiving updates, so more fish may be added in future patches. This guide will be updated as new species become available.
How to Unlock Fishing
You don’t start the game with a fishing rod. Instead, you’ll unlock fishing during your second night in Moonlight Peaks.
Head across the bridge to the right of your house and continue through the stone archway until you reach the sandy shoreline. Here, you’ll meet Noel, who introduces you to fishing and challenges you to a friendly competition.
Your objective is simple: catch three different fish species before Noel does. You have the entire night to complete the challenge, so there’s no need to rush. Once you succeed, Noel rewards you with 250 Coins, giving you a nice financial boost early in the game.
After completing this event, you’ll have your fishing rod permanently and can fish whenever you want.
Moonlight Peaks Fishing Guide – Fish Locations, Vlaues
Fishing in Moonlight Peaks is straightforward, making it easy for both new and experienced cozy game players.
To begin fishing:
- Equip your fishing rod.
- Walk to any fishing spot.
- Cast your line toward the water.
Instead of casting randomly, look for fish-shaped shadows swimming beneath the water. These shadows indicate where fish are located and greatly improve your chances of getting a bite.
If you accidentally cast directly on top of a fish, don’t worry. The fish will briefly swim away, but you can slowly reel your lure closer to attract it back before it bites.
Once a fish takes the bait, reel it in to complete the catch.
Occasionally, you’ll pull up trash instead of a fish. While it isn’t as valuable, it can still be sold for a small amount of Coins, so every cast is worth making.
Fish Quality
Every fish has two important values:
- Energy – Restores Energy when consumed.
- Coin Value – The amount you receive when selling it.
Fish can also appear with Star Ratings. Higher-star fish are worth more Coins and restore additional Energy, making them significantly more valuable than their base versions.
For example, a normal Whisper sells for 40 Coins and restores 6 Energy, while a higher-quality version increases both its selling price and Energy restoration.

Fishing Tips
- Unlock fishing as soon as you reach your second night.
- Always aim for the fish-shaped shadows instead of casting randomly.
- If fish swim away after your cast, slowly reel the lure toward them instead of recasting immediately.
- Save seasonal fish like Goldy before the season changes.
- Keep an eye out for higher-star fish since they’re worth more Coins and restore additional Energy.
- Visit different regions regularly to complete your fish collection and discover higher-value species.
Fishing is one of the most reliable ways to earn extra Coins throughout your adventure, and as you unlock more areas, you’ll gain access to rarer fish that are both more valuable and more useful for restoring Energy. Keeping your rod handy whenever you’re exploring is a simple habit that pays off throughout the game.
