Purple Studs are among the rarest collectibles in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Unlike normal studs that respawn and can be farmed repeatedly, Purple Studs are one-time collectibles worth 10,000 studs each. Once collected, they permanently disappear and are replaced by standard Silver Studs if you revisit the location later.
Because of their rarity, many players are hunting them down in hopes of unlocking a secret reward. While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, community discussions suggest collecting every Purple Stud may unlock the hidden Brutal Bat (Amethyst) trophy. Whether that reward is real or simply a rumor remains unclear, but the hunt itself has quickly become one of the game’s biggest completionist challenges.
At the time of writing, 35 Purple Studs have been found throughout the story missions, with more still being documented across Gotham’s free-roam areas.
Purple Stud Mechanics
Before starting your collection journey, it’s important to understand how Purple Studs work.
- Each Purple Stud is worth 10,000 studs.
- They only appear once.
- After collection, they are replaced by Silver Studs.
- They are hidden throughout story missions and Gotham City.
- Missing one often means replaying an entire mission.
For that reason, many players prefer collecting them during their first playthrough whenever possible.
The League of Shadows – Mountain Climb
Total Purple Studs: 3
This opening mission contains more Purple Studs than most early levels, making it an excellent introduction to the collectible hunt.
First Purple Stud
After completing the Quick Time Event where Batman nearly falls, continue climbing until you reach a cave entrance.
Instead of entering immediately, turn around and look upward. You’ll spot a grapple point leading to a higher ledge.
Use your Grapple Gun and climb up to claim the mission’s first Purple Stud.
Second Purple Stud
Continue through the level until you build the glider seat used to cross a massive gap.
Before moving on, look into the distance to spot a faint purple glow.
After landing on the opposite side, turn around and locate the snowman-building area. The Purple Stud is hidden in the back-right corner of this section.
Third Purple Stud
Return to the landing area and look left.
You’ll find a large crate beside a smaller explosive box. Destroy both to reveal a crawlspace.
Inside the hidden cave you’ll discover a frozen Purple Stud alongside a friendly goat.
Break the nearby crate and build a campfire. The heat melts the ice, allowing you to collect the final Purple Stud in the level.
The League of Shadows – Stealth Training
Total Purple Studs: 1
As you progress through the training area, you’ll eventually reach the section where a rocket launcher must be assembled.
Before building it, turn around and look upward.
The Purple Stud is trapped in a cluster of cobwebs.
Build the rocket launcher, rotate it fully left, and fire at the webs to knock the stud down.
Collect it before moving on.
The League of Shadows – Gadget Training
Total Purple Studs: 1
Proceed until reaching the spear trap that requires a timed Batarang throw.
After safely crossing, stop before continuing up the path.
Look right toward the weapon racks.
The Purple Stud is hidden directly behind them.
Infiltration – Infiltration
Total Purple Studs: 1
Continue until reaching the large semi-open combat area.
From the entrance, drop into the first gap on the right side.
You’ll land on a lower level containing an enemy and several crates.
Turn around immediately after landing.
The Purple Stud sits beneath a small shelter tucked against the wall.
Infiltration – Ra’s al Ghul
Total Purple Studs: 1
Eventually you’ll reach a burning section that combines platforming and grapple traversal.
Continue until spotting two climbable bars and a wooden lattice structure.
The Purple Stud is hidden inside the burning room nearby.
Circle around the flames from the left side to safely reach it.
New Beginnings – Returning Home
Total Purple Studs: 2
First Purple Stud
Inside the bat cave section, you’ll build a spotlight to scare away bats.
Look toward the right side of the cave.
A grapple point leads to an elevated ledge containing the Purple Stud.
Second Purple Stud
Later in the mission you’ll encounter a vehicle covered by a large tarp.
Ignore the vehicle for now.
Look right and enter the nearby tunnel.
Follow it to the end to find the mission’s second Purple Stud.
New Beginnings – Docks
Total Purple Studs: 1
After using Gordon’s Foam Sprayer to stop the container door mechanism, move through the container.
On the other side, turn right.
The Purple Stud is hidden behind a collection of blue tanks.
Carmine Falcone – Iceberg Lounge
Total Purple Studs: 1
This collectible appears very close to the end of the level.
After the long slide sequence and elevator cutscene, defeat the remaining shield enemies.
Head toward the left side of the room.
The Purple Stud is hidden behind a teddy bear crate.
The Red Hood Gang – ACE Chemicals
Total Purple Studs: 4
This mission currently contains one of the highest Purple Stud counts in the game.
First Purple Stud
After building the fan used to cross the toxic waste river, don’t use it immediately.
Look high to the right side of the area.
A hidden ledge contains the Purple Stud.
Stand on the left side of the fan and glide toward it.
Second Purple Stud
After crossing the toxic river, locate the giant tank filled with spinning teddy bears.
Climb onto the tank using your grapple.
Look toward the left capsule nearby.
Block its pipe using Gordon’s ability to open it.
Drop inside to collect the Purple Stud.
Third Purple Stud
Continue progressing until blocking another valve with Gordon.
Instead of heading toward the next fan, enter the newly opened pipe on the right.
Follow the tunnel path until reaching the Purple Stud.
Fourth Purple Stud
Near the end of the mission you’ll encounter another giant central tank.
Take the left hallway all the way to the end.
Block the valve there.
This opens another pipe on the opposite hallway.
Enter it to discover the final Purple Stud.
The Red Hood Gang – Factory Meltdown
Total Purple Studs: 3
First Purple Stud
After blocking three valves and defeating nearby enemies, locate the trapdoor near the stairs.
Drop through it.
The Purple Stud is hidden behind the staircase inside a fenced section.
Second Purple Stud
Later you’ll enter a large burning area.
Before progressing right, extinguish the fire on the left using Gordon.
The Purple Stud appears beneath the flames.
Third Purple Stud
Further ahead you’ll reach another staircase.
Climb the first set of steps and look right.
Destroy the boxes blocking the doorway.
The Purple Stud is hidden in the room beyond.
Mimes – Shreck’s Department Store
Total Purple Studs: 2
First Purple Stud
After descending via elevator, look toward the nearby staircase.
Climb it to find the Purple Stud waiting at the top.
Second Purple Stud
During the mannequin mime section, head toward the right side of the room.
Break the nearby box and enter the hidden area.
Use Catwoman’s cat companion to access the button controlling the fence.
Inside the storage area, push the cart to the rear section and climb upward.
Destroy the boxes beside the WayneTech crate.
The Purple Stud is hidden behind them.
The Penguin – Arctic World
Total Purple Studs: 1
Complete the second Catwoman climbing section and move past the giant penguins.
You’ll encounter a large snowman.
Approach it and it will explode.
The Purple Stud is revealed underneath.
Flugelheim – The Party Man
Total Purple Studs: 1
After obtaining the keycard through Batman’s scanner trail sequence, enter the newly unlocked section.
Look above the shutter on the left side.
Use Catwoman’s whip to activate the mechanism.
The shutter opens, revealing a display case containing the Purple Stud.
Open the case and claim your reward.
Joker – The Big Dukeroo
Total Purple Studs: 1
The Purple Stud is located near the second parade float.
Move along the right side of the area until you find two stalls and a small hot dog stand.
The collectible is hidden behind the left stall.
Two-Face – Haly’s Circus
Total Purple Studs: 1
After Two-Face appears, complete the trap-filled platforming sequence.
You’ll eventually reach a structure covered in rotating climbable ledges.
Instead of climbing upward, grab one of the ledges and allow it to carry Batman around the backside.
The Purple Stud is hidden on the rear portion of the structure.

These missions currently represent some of the largest gaps in the Purple Stud collection and will likely be high-priority targets for completionists once their locations are fully mapped.

35 Purple Studs
from story missions alone.
With Gotham Free Roam locations still being documented and several mission collectibles yet to be fully mapped, the final total is expected to be significantly higher.
