Doloc Town 1.0 Beginner Guide – Stats, Upgrade Backpack

Starting out in Doloc Town can feel overwhelming, especially with limited resources, a small farm, and several systems unlocking at once. The key is to manage your Energy, Stamina, crops, materials, and Tech Tree progression carefully.

Here are the most useful beginner tips to help you make faster progress.

Doloc Town 1.0 Beginner Guide – Stats, Upgrade Backpack

Doloc Town has three important character stats:

  • Energy: Decreases as you perform activities. If it reaches zero, you pass out and lose some Goldcoin.
  • Health: Your life bar. Taking too much damage can cause you to die and lose money.
  • Stamina: Used for actions such as chopping trees and breaking rocks. When it reaches zero, you cannot perform actions.

You can restore these stats by napping, sleeping, or eating certain foods. Keep an eye on all three, particularly Energy and Stamina when gathering resources.

Learn What Each Tool Does

You start with three primary tools:

  • Scythe: Cuts grass.
  • Pickaxe: Breaks rocks, soil, and sand and can demolish farm structures.
  • Axe: Cuts down trees.

Using your tools also contributes to Field Study, Tech Research, or Tool Operation points. These points are important because they’re used to unlock new items and upgrades in the Tech Tree.

Don’t rush to spend every point immediately. Look through the Tech Tree and prioritize upgrades that improve farming, crafting, and exploration.

Start Growing Endyams Early

Endyams are one of the best early-game crops for making Goldcoin.

Your crop options are limited during the opening portion of the game, so growing as many Endyams as possible is a reliable way to build up money.

Once you unlock cooking, cook your Endyams before selling them. Cooked Endyams are worth 5 additional Goldcoin each, making this a simple way to increase your early-game income.

Don’t Waste Resources on Basic Plant Basins

The first Plant Basin – Basic is disposable and decays after a single use.

That means repeatedly crafting them can quickly waste your resources.

Instead, work on completing tasks around town until you unlock the recipe for a better Plant Basin. Once you have access to the upgraded version, farming becomes much more resource-efficient.

Prioritize Soil Before Wood

Soil is particularly important early on because it is needed for upgraded Plant Basins, and the amount available each day is limited.

A good gathering routine is:

  1. Collect all available soil.
  2. Use your remaining Energy to gather wood.
  3. Save the materials for important farm upgrades.

This prevents you from running out of soil when you’re ready to expand your farming operation.

Complete Villager Tasks During the First Few Days

The early days are a good time to focus on tasks and requests from villagers.

The Rivervalley isn’t immediately available, so there isn’t much reason to spend all of your time trying to explore the wider world.

Tasks can provide useful rewards, recipes, and progression that will make later exploration and farming easier.

Expand Your Farm Vertically

Farm space becomes a major limitation fairly quickly.

Rather than trying to expand horizontally, build upward using Platform – Wooden structures.

A useful early layout is to create a row of around 10 Plant Basin – Wood and then expand vertically when you need more room.

This makes better use of the limited farm space.

Unlock Cooking Early

Cooking is worth prioritizing in the Tech Tree.

Once unlocked, you can build cooking pots and process batches of crops instead of cooking everything individually.

For early-game farming, Endyams are particularly useful because cooking them increases their selling value by 5 Goldcoin each.

Try to cook your harvest in batches so you’re not constantly stopping your other activities to prepare individual crops.

Protect Your Farm With Lightning Rods

Once the Rivervalley becomes accessible, start looking for Copper.

Copper is especially valuable because you can use it to make Lightning Rods, which protect your crops and buildings from lightning.

A good priority is:

Copper → Lightning Rods → Tool Upgrades

Protecting your farm first can save you from losing valuable structures or crops, while the remaining Copper can be used to improve your tools.

Upgrade Your Backpack

Inventory space becomes increasingly important as you explore and gather resources.

You can upgrade your backpack by heading east from your farm and speaking to Hult at the General Store.

The upgrades cost:

Backpack Size Cost
20 Slots 500 Goldcoin
30 Slots 4,000 Goldcoin
40 Slots 10,000 Goldcoin

The first upgrade is relatively affordable, so increasing your inventory capacity should be one of your early spending priorities.

Explore After Unlocking Rivervalley

Doloc Town uses progression similar to a metroidvania. Some areas cannot be reached until you obtain abilities such as the double-jump or dash, or acquire better tools.

Don’t worry about reaching every location immediately.

Exploring later areas can provide:

  • New crafting materials
  • Larger quantities of existing resources
  • New NPCs
  • Story progression
  • New mysteries and quests
  • Access to additional areas

If you encounter an inaccessible location early on, remember where it is and return after unlocking the required ability.

Unlock Guns Through the Guild

After Rivervalley opens, you can speak with Orlando about joining the guild.

Complete his tasks to gain access to the guild, after which you can purchase guns from Cod.

Guns work differently from traditional weapons in Doloc Town. They’re attached to a drone that follows you rather than being held directly by your character.

As you progress, you can obtain better drones, guns, and alternative equipment.

Repair Bus Stations for Fast Travel

Bus stations can be repaired after completing the “Night Meeting” task.

The mayor’s to-do journal in the Treaty Port contains the relevant repair tasks. Bring the required crafting materials to the appropriate station and submit them to repair it.

Once repaired, bus stations provide fast travel, but there is an important catch: fast travel isn’t free.

You’ll need a Ticket each time you summon the bus. Tickets can be limited early in the game, so avoid wasting them on unnecessary trips.

Backpack Upgrades Should Be an Early Goal

As you gather crops, soil, wood, minerals, and other materials, your inventory will fill quickly.

Rather than constantly returning to your farm to unload resources, save toward backpack upgrades. The 500 Goldcoin upgrade to 20 slots is particularly worthwhile early on.

Build Upward, Not Outward

Your farm has limited horizontal space, so vertical expansion is essential.

A simple early strategy is:

Plant Basin – Wood → Platform – Wooden → More farming space → Additional platforms

This allows you to keep expanding without running into the game’s horizontal limitations.

Save Money for Important Upgrades

It’s tempting to spend your first Goldcoin on anything available, but your money is more valuable when used for progression.

Prioritize:

  1. Backpack upgrades
  2. Farming improvements
  3. Cooking-related equipment
  4. Lightning Rods
  5. Tool upgrades
  6. Other optional purchases

Best Early-Game Progression

If you want a simple order to follow, use this progression:

Grow Endyams → Complete town tasks → Gather Soil → Gather Wood → Unlock better Plant Basins → Expand vertically → Unlock Cooking → Cook Endyams → Open Rivervalley → Gather Copper → Build Lightning Rods → Upgrade tools → Explore further

Following this route gives you a reliable source of early Goldcoin while simultaneously preparing your farm for the more dangerous areas of Doloc Town.
