Once you’ve finished dealing with the candles inside the Vanderboom Estate, Day 1 sends you outside to deal with the garden. And honestly, the garden has its own little collection of puzzles that can be easy to overlook if you’re just trying to get everything cleaned up before the guests arrive.
The flower puzzle is probably the one that makes you stop and stare for a moment.
You have a bunch of flowers with different combinations of buds, petals, and leaves, and they’re sitting in a pyramid on the flower pot. It looks complicated at first, but the basic idea is actually pretty familiar.
If you’ve ever solved one of those number pyramids where two blocks combine to create the number above them, you’re already halfway there.
How to Solve the Flower Puzzle in Servant of the Lake
The flower puzzle works like a number pyramid, sometimes called a brick wall puzzle.
Normally, you’d add two numbers together and place their total in the block above them. Here, the game replaces numbers with different flower features.
Instead of:
2 + 3 = 5
you’re effectively combining flower characteristics.
For example, you might have:
Stem with leaves + White flower without leaves
which produces:
White flower with leaves
The important thing to understand is that the flowers keep their characteristics as they move upward.
So you’re not looking for completely new flowers on every row. The features from the flowers underneath are carried into the flower above them.
How to Approach the Flower Puzzle
The easiest way to solve this one is actually to work from the top downward.
Normally, you’d probably start at the bottom because that’s how these puzzles are usually presented. Don’t.
Look at the flowers you have and find the most developed flower.
The flower at the very top needs to be the most complete combination of the features available below it.
In this case, the top flower is a white flower with a red centre and both sets of leaves.
Once you’ve identified that flower, you can work backward and figure out which two flowers need to combine to produce it.
Then continue doing the same thing for each row.
How the Flower Features Work
The trick is to pay attention to the individual parts of each flower.
You’re dealing with combinations of things such as:
- Red or white flowers
- A flower bud or no bud
- Upper leaves
- Lower leaves
- Different combinations of leaves
As you move upward through the pyramid, those characteristics combine.
That’s why two flowers that look fairly simple at the bottom can eventually create a much more developed flower near the top.
If you’re stuck, don’t just compare the overall appearance of the flowers. Look at each individual feature and ask yourself which two flowers could have produced the one directly above them.
Servant of the Lake Flower Puzzle Solution
If you’d rather skip the trial-and-error and just get the puzzle solved, here’s the complete arrangement.
Starting from the top row and working downward, arrange the flowers as follows.
Row 1 — Top
White flower with red centre and both sets of leaves
This is the most developed flower and belongs at the very top of the pyramid.
Row 2
Red bud with both sets of leaves
and
White flower with both sets of leaves
These two flowers combine to create the fully developed flower above them.
Row 3
Red bud with lower leaves and double leaves
and
White flower with upper leaves
These continue the feature combinations from the row below.
Row 4 — Bottom
Red bud
and
No bud with lower leaves and upper leaves
and
White flower
These are the three starting flowers at the bottom of the pyramid.
Flower Puzzle Solution at a Glance
For a quick reference, the pyramid should look like this from top to bottom:
Top:
White flower + red centre + both sets of leaves
Second row:
Red bud + both sets of leaves
and White flower + both sets of leaves
Third row:
Red bud + lower leaves + double leaves
and White flower + upper leaves
Bottom row:
Red bud
and No bud + lower leaves + upper leaves
and White flower
The exact wording of the flower descriptions can make this look more intimidating than it really is. Once you understand that the flowers are simply carrying their individual features upward, the puzzle becomes much easier to read.
A Quick Tip for Solving It Yourself
If you want to solve the puzzle without immediately copying the answer, start by finding the most complete flower and place it at the top.
Then look underneath it and ask:
Which two flowers could combine to contain all of these features?
Once you’ve figured out one row, repeat the process.
That makes the flower puzzle feel much less like guessing and much more like working backward through a little logic puzzle.
And if you’re working through Day 1 in order, don’t worry if the garden starts feeling like one giant checklist. Servant of the Lake likes to hide the solution to one task inside the details of another, so keeping an eye on unusual flower features, markings, and objects is usually worth the extra few seconds.
