The Terrotrapper Rod is one of the two craftable rods introduced in the Drylands update, and unlike most rods in Fisch, you can’t simply purchase it with C$. Instead, you’ll need to complete a large portion of the Drylands questline, unlock the Marrow Rod, and gather several rare crafting materials.
It takes some work to obtain, but if you’re aiming to complete all of the new Drylands content, this rod is one of the final rewards you’ll unlock.

Complete the Drylands Questline First
Before you can craft the Terrotrapper Rod, you’ll need to progress through the Drylands storyline.
During the questline, you’ll unlock several mechanics, including:
- Sand fishing
- Fossil collection
- The Marrow Rod
- Awakening Serum
- Photic Terror hunts
Many of the crafting materials required for the rod won’t even become available until you’ve progressed through these quests.
Craft the Marrow Rod
The Marrow Rod is a required step before obtaining the Terrotrapper Rod.
Not only is it needed for quest progression, but certain materials for the Terrotrapper Rod are much easier—or only possible—to obtain while using the Marrow Rod.
If you haven’t crafted it yet, focus on finishing its crafting requirements first before farming for the Terrotrapper Rod.
Terrotrapper Rod Crafting Recipe
To craft the Terrotrapper Rod, you’ll need the following materials:
- Marrow Terrosaunder
- Terrosaunder Skull
- Fossilized Opal
- Dune Thread
Once you’ve collected every material, head to the crafting station and combine them to receive the rod.
How to Get the Required Materials
Marrow Terrosaunder
This fish is obtained during the Drylands progression and requires the Marrow Rod.
Since it carries the Marrow mutation, you’ll need to fish with the correct rod before it can be used for crafting.
Terrosaunder Skull
The Terrosaunder Skull is earned by progressing through the Photic Terror portion of the Drylands questline.
During this section you’ll:
- Catch the Photic Terror.
- Receive the Awakening Serum.
- Wait for a Dust Storm.
- Throw the Awakening Serum into the Sunken Reservoir.
- Complete the encounter to earn the required quest rewards.
You’ll need to revisit this content until you’ve obtained all of the required crafting materials.
Fossilized Opal
The Fossilized Opal is another crafting material obtained while exploring the Drylands.
Continue completing fossil-related activities and Drylands progression until it drops.
Depending on your luck, this may take several attempts.
Dune Thread
Dune Thread is another required crafting component earned through the Drylands content.
Keep progressing through the area’s quests and activities until you’ve collected one.
Tips for the Photic Terror Hunt
One of the more challenging parts of the Terrotrapper Rod grind is defeating and catching the Photic Terror.
A few tips that can make the process easier include:
- Wait for a Dust Storm before using the Awakening Serum.
- Fish from the recommended locations around the Sunken Reservoir.
- Make sure you’re using the required quest rod.
- Be prepared to repeat the encounter if you don’t receive every crafting material on your first attempt.
Some players may need multiple hunts before collecting everything needed for the rod.

Terrotrapper Rod Passive
The Terrotrapper Rod comes with a unique passive ability.
Occasionally, a small scorpion appears while you’re fishing. When it activates, it grants a bonus to catch progress, helping fill the progress bar faster for that catch.
The rod can also apply the Terro Mutation to fish.
The passive doesn’t trigger on every catch, but when it does, it provides a noticeable boost toward landing fish more quickly.
