Weapons in Romestead are more than simple upgrades. After spending dozens of hours progressing from flint tools to bronze equipment and testing different combat styles against wildlife, bandits, monsters, and bosses, one thing becomes very clear: the strongest weapon is not always the weapon with the biggest damage number.
Some weapons excel at crowd control. Others dominate boss fights. A few completely change how combat feels. Meanwhile, certain weapons look powerful on paper but struggle to justify their crafting cost once you reach the mid and late game.
This guide covers every weapon family currently available in Romestead, including their stats, strengths, weaknesses, progression value, and where they fit into the overall meta.
Romestead Weapon Guide – Equipment, Arcuballistas
Before looking at individual weapons, it helps to understand what each weapon family is designed to accomplish.
Gladius
The Gladius family represents the balanced swords of Romestead. They offer fast attacks, reliable damage, and straightforward combat without requiring special mechanics or positioning.
Hasta
Hasta weapons are spears focused on range and safety. Their ability to keep enemies at a distance often allows players to avoid taking damage entirely.
Shields
Shields are defensive tools built around blocking and perfect timing. Skilled players can dramatically reduce incoming damage and create counterattack opportunities.
Daggers
Daggers sacrifice raw damage in favor of extremely fast attack speed. They reward aggressive players who prefer mobility and constant pressure.
Sledgehammers
Sledgehammers focus on massive hits, crowd control, knockback, and stunning enemies. They currently provide some of the highest damage numbers available.
Pilums
Pilums function as throwable spears that deal enormous burst damage. They are consumable weapons designed for opening fights or finishing dangerous targets quickly.
Bows
Traditional ranged weapons that reward accuracy and positioning. They provide safe damage from a distance but require proper timing.
Arcuballistas
Off-hand crossbows that allow players to deal ranged damage while simultaneously carrying another primary weapon.
Gladius Weapons
Flint Gladius
Damage: 3-4
Damage Type: Slashing
Speed: Fast
Crafting Cost: 1 Wooden Stick, 3 Flint Shard
The Flint Gladius serves as the introduction to melee combat for most players.
What I like about this weapon is its simplicity. There are no special attacks, no complicated mechanics, and no drawbacks. It swings quickly and gets the job done during the opening stages of progression.
That said, its usefulness disappears relatively quickly. Once copper equipment becomes available, the Flint Gladius starts feeling noticeably weak against tougher enemies.
The weapon is perfectly serviceable during your first few hours, but it should never become a long-term investment.
Copper Gladius
Damage: 6-7
Damage Type: Slashing
Speed: Fast
Crafting Cost: 1 Wooden Stick, 2 Copper Bar
The Copper Gladius doubles the effectiveness of its Flint counterpart.
This is usually the point where combat begins feeling smoother because enemies die noticeably faster. The damage increase is significant enough to be felt immediately.
One thing I always appreciated about the Copper Gladius is how affordable it is. You can obtain a respectable melee weapon without spending large amounts of resources.
Its only problem is timing. By the time most players craft one, they are already approaching bronze progression.
Bronze Gladius
Damage: 10-12
Damage Type: Slashing
Speed: Fast
Crafting Cost: 2 Bronze Bar, 1 Wooden Stick
The Bronze Gladius represents the peak of the sword progression line.
Everything about it feels polished. The damage is respectable, attack speed remains fast, and it performs consistently against almost every enemy type.
However, after extensive testing, I found myself replacing it sooner than expected. Not because the weapon is bad, but because other weapon families simply offer more utility.
The Bronze Hasta provides better reach.
The Bronze Sledgehammer provides dramatically higher damage.
The Arcuballista adds ranged support.
The Bronze Gladius remains one of the most reliable all-purpose weapons in the game, but it rarely becomes the strongest option available.
Hasta Weapons
Flint Hasta
Damage: 4-5
Damage Type: Piercing
Speed: Fast
Special Attack: Charged thrust attack
The Flint Hasta is one of the most underrated early-game weapons.
Many new players focus exclusively on damage numbers and overlook the value of range. The ability to strike enemies before they can hit you often matters more than a few extra points of damage.
Even with modest stats, the Flint Hasta can make early exploration considerably safer.
Copper Hasta
Damage: 7-9
Damage Type: Piercing
Speed: Fast
Special Attack: Charged thrust attack
The Copper Hasta continues the same philosophy while significantly increasing damage.
This is often the weapon I recommend to newer players who struggle with survival. The extra range creates more room for mistakes and reduces the need for perfect positioning.
When paired with a shield, it becomes one of the safest combinations available during copper progression.
Bronze Hasta
Damage: 12-14
Damage Type: Piercing
Speed: Fast
Special Attack: Charged thrust attack
Crafting Cost: 2 Bronze Bar, 2 Wooden Stick
The Bronze Hasta is where spears truly shine.
The combination of high damage, fast attack speed, and excellent reach makes it one of the most versatile weapons in Romestead.
During boss encounters, maintaining distance often means fewer opportunities for enemies to retaliate. Against groups, the reach helps control spacing.
Among all standard melee weapons, this is one of the most comfortable weapons to use for extended play sessions.
Shield Equipment
Wooden Shield
Special Function: Blocking
The Wooden Shield introduces one of Romestead’s most important combat mechanics.
Learning to time blocks correctly early on pays dividends throughout the entire game.
While the shield itself is basic, the skills developed while using it remain valuable forever.
Copper Shield
The Copper Shield improves durability and blocking capability while maintaining the same core functionality.
It serves as a straightforward upgrade and remains useful for defensive players.
Bronze Shield
The Bronze Shield offers the strongest traditional protection among standard shields.
Its increased block strength makes encounters significantly safer.
Players who enjoy methodical combat often keep this shield equipped even after unlocking stronger offensive options.
Aegis
Special Effect: Petrifies enemies after perfect blocks
The Aegis is easily the most unique shield in the game.
Unlike normal shields that simply prevent damage, the Aegis turns defense into offense.
Landing a perfect block can petrify enemies, creating openings that would otherwise not exist.
During difficult encounters, this ability can completely change the flow of combat.
Among all defensive equipment currently available, nothing feels more rewarding to master.
Dagger Weapons
Copper Daggers
Damage: 2-4
Damage Type: Piercing
Speed: Extremely Fast
The Copper Daggers appeal to players who enjoy speed over power.
Attacks come out rapidly, making combat feel fluid and aggressive.
The downside is obvious. Individual hits are weak, meaning heavily armored or high-health enemies can take longer to defeat.
Bronze Daggers
Damage: 4-6
Damage Type: Piercing
Speed: Extremely Fast
The Bronze Daggers improve on the Copper version while maintaining the same playstyle.
They excel at picking off isolated enemies and dealing continuous pressure.
Although they never become top-tier damage dealers, they remain enjoyable for players who prioritize mobility and fast-paced combat.
Sledgehammer Weapons
Flint Sledgehammer
Damage: 5-8
Damage Type: Bludgeoning
Special Attack: Knockback attack consuming energy
The Flint Sledgehammer is where players first discover how strong blunt weapons can be.
Even the weakest hammer feels impactful because of its ability to knock enemies away and interrupt attacks.
The crowd-control utility alone makes it worth considering.
Copper Sledgehammer
Damage: 12-16
Damage Type: Bludgeoning
The Copper Sledgehammer is one of the biggest power spikes in the entire progression system.
The damage increase is massive, and enemies begin dying in significantly fewer hits.
For many players, this becomes their primary weapon for a large portion of the game.
Bronze Sledgehammer
Damage: 22-24
Damage Type: Bludgeoning
This weapon completely dominates the standard melee category.
Every swing hits like a truck.
The damage numbers are absurd compared to most other weapons, and the knockback utility remains incredibly useful.
After using almost every weapon in the game, this is still the weapon I find myself returning to most often whenever efficiency matters.
Few enemies can withstand repeated hits from a Bronze Sledgehammer.
Pilum Weapons
Copper Pilum
Damage: 15-20
Damage Type: Piercing
The Copper Pilum serves as an excellent introduction to throwable weapons.
Its burst damage is surprisingly high for its progression stage.
Throwing one before engaging can immediately swing a fight in your favor.
Bronze Pilum
Damage: 20-25
Damage Type: Piercing
The Bronze version hits even harder and remains useful well into late-game content.
I often carry several when exploring dangerous areas because the ability to instantly remove a large portion of an enemy’s health is difficult to ignore.
Iron Pilum
Damage: 25-30
Damage Type: Piercing
The Iron Pilum currently delivers the highest burst damage among throwable weapons.
Against elite enemies and bosses, opening with multiple Pilums can dramatically shorten encounters.
Despite being consumable, their effectiveness more than justifies the cost.
Bow Equipment
Wooden Bow
Damage: 2-4
Speed: Very Slow
The Wooden Bow is primarily a hunting tool.
Its low damage prevents it from becoming a major combat option, but it helps players learn ranged mechanics.
Arquites Bow
Damage: 5-6
A respectable upgrade that begins making archery feel practical rather than experimental.
The extra damage noticeably improves combat performance.
Feathered Bow
Damage: 8-10
The Feathered Bow introduces special material progression and offers a solid improvement over previous bows.
Its unique crafting requirements make it feel like a meaningful achievement.
Sagittarii Bow
Damage: 10-12
This bow marks the point where ranged combat becomes genuinely powerful.
Accurate players can eliminate threats before they ever reach melee range.
Ballistarii Bow
Damage: 14-16
The strongest traditional bow currently available.
Its damage output rivals many melee weapons while maintaining the safety advantage of ranged combat.
For dedicated archers, this is the ultimate goal.
Arcuballista Equipment
Wooden Arcuballista
Damage: 2-4
The first Arcuballista demonstrates why off-hand ranged weapons are so useful.
Even modest damage becomes valuable when it comes at virtually no opportunity cost.
Copper Arcuballista
Damage: 5-7
This version starts providing meaningful supplemental damage during combat.
The improvement over the Wooden variant is immediately noticeable.
Bronze Arcuballista
Damage: 11-13
At this point, the Arcuballista becomes a legitimate source of damage rather than merely support.
The combination of flexibility and strong damage makes it one of the most efficient off-hand weapons available.
Tectonic Arcuballista
Damage: 16-18 Piercing
Bonus Damage: 2-4 Blunt
The Tectonic Arcuballista is arguably the strongest ranged support weapon in Romestead.
The additional blunt damage gives it an advantage over traditional ranged options, while its off-hand design allows it to complement virtually any build.
Whenever I discuss endgame equipment with experienced players, this weapon almost always enters the conversation.
It is simply that good.

If I had to recommend a single loadout for most players, I would go with the Bronze Sledgehammer in the main hand and a Tectonic Arcuballista in the off-hand, swapping to the Aegis when facing difficult enemies that reward defensive play. This setup provides incredible damage, excellent crowd control, ranged pressure, and enough flexibility to handle nearly every challenge Romestead currently throws at you.
