The Blood of Dawnwalker Edict Guide

The Edict system in The Blood of Dawnwalker is directly connected to Coen’s Infamy. As you interfere with Brencis and his followers, his Court will respond by placing different Edicts across Vale Sangora.

These Edicts can make your journey more difficult, with penalties such as military checkpoints, additional enemies, and higher prices for items. The more Infamy you build up, the harsher these effects can become.

However, there is a reason to take the risk. Increasing your Infamy can also raise the Anger Level of the Vrakhirs, which can eventually unlock quests that let you challenge them and weaken Brencis’s forces.

Edicts Increase Difficulty Through Infamy

Edicts are tied to the choices you make while exploring and interacting with Brencis’s followers.

You can check your current Edicts through the Court Menu. This menu shows the Edicts you have received, along with points of interest where you can take actions that may anger Brencis’s allies.

The more Infamy you gain by interfering with his followers, the more severe the Edicts proclaimed by Brencis can become.

These penalties can affect different parts of the game, including:

  • Military checkpoints appearing around Vale Sangora
  • Additional enemy forces in the world
  • Higher prices for purchasable items

So, while building Infamy can help you unlock certain opportunities, it also makes traveling and dealing with the world more difficult.

Edicts Can Raise a Vrakhir’s Anger

Unlock Vrakhir Quests

Infamy isn’t only about making the game harder.

If you raise Coen’s Infamy enough, you can also increase a Vrakhir’s Anger Level. Reaching the required level can unlock a quest where you can fight that Vrakhir.

Defeating a Vrakhir gives you a way to weaken Brencis’s forces, making the increased difficulty from Edicts potentially worthwhile.

You may actually need to earn one or more Edicts before you can reach the point where a Vrakhir becomes angry enough to give you a chance to fight them.

Because of this, I wouldn’t necessarily avoid Infamy altogether. If you’re looking to challenge Vrakhirs and weaken Brencis’s forces, accepting some Edicts may be part of the process.

How Many Edicts Are There?

Nine Edicts Are Available

There appear to be 9 different Edicts that can be proclaimed during a playthrough.

The Edicts you receive depend on how infamous Coen becomes and the actions you take throughout Vale Sangora. As your Infamy increases, Brencis’s response becomes more severe.

Can You Remove Edicts?

Edicts Likely Cannot Be Removed

At the moment, there is no known way to completely remove an Edict once Brencis has proclaimed it.

Your decisions have lasting consequences throughout Vale Sangora, so you should expect the effects of an Edict to remain during your current run.

This makes managing Infamy an important part of the game. You can deliberately increase it to unlock opportunities such as Vrakhir quests, but doing so also means dealing with the additional penalties that come from Brencis’s Edicts.
