Ruins of Lordaeron is a level 15–20 dungeon in WoW Forever, located beneath the Undercity in Tirisfal Glades. With seven bosses, faction-specific quests, and several summonable encounters, there is plenty to explore beyond simply clearing the dungeon.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to reach Ruins of Lordaeron, which quests you can pick up before entering, and what to expect from each boss. I’ve also included notable loot drops so you can plan your run and know what rewards are worth looking out for.
Whether you’re visiting for experience, quest rewards, or gear upgrades, a little preparation will make the dungeon much smoother. Let’s get started.
Ruins of Lordaeron Dungeon Guide – Quests, Bosses, Loot
Ruins of Lordaeron is a five-player dungeon located just below the Undercity. The entrance is at approximately 71.6, 11.4, near the eastern side of the Undercity courtyard.
- Recommended level: 15–20
- Dungeon size: 5 players
- Bosses: 7, including the Lordaeron Captain
- Closest Horde flight path: Undercity
How to Reach the Dungeon
Horde: The easiest route is to fly to Undercity and make your way to the Ruins of Lordaeron entrance.
Alliance: Reaching the dungeon takes longer. From Stormwind Harbor, take the boat to Auberdine, then travel by boat to Menethil Harbor. Continue toward Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills, then head north toward Lordamere Lake and through Silverpine Forest into Tirisfal Glades. Follow the road to the Ruins of Lordaeron.

Ruins of Lordaeron Boss Strategies
The dungeon contains six regular or event bosses, plus the Lordaeron Captain, who can appear after the other bosses have been defeated. Several encounters are straightforward, but positioning and managing extra enemies are important throughout the run.
Witherfang
Witherfang patrols the long hallway near the dungeon entrance, accompanied by Broodlings. Keep an eye out for her patrol before pulling nearby enemies, as she can join an unexpected fight.
The encounter itself is simple. The tank should hold Witherfang while the group deals with her adds and manages the poison debuff she applies to the tank.
Notable loot:
- Atrophic Girdle
- Witherbite Bracers
- Segmented Spider Leg
The Baron
The Baron is found at the end of the first hallway near the bend. His main threats are a powerful cleave and a knockback that can reduce the tank’s threat.
Melee players should stay behind the boss to avoid the cleave. Ranged damage dealers and healers should keep their distance. I recommend positioning the Baron with his back to a wall so the tank is less likely to be knocked into nearby enemies. If the tank loses aggro after a knockback, taunt quickly.
After defeating him, loot his head to begin the Unending Torment quest chain.
Notable loot:
- Abomination Bones
- Leftover Abomination Skin
- Meathook Slicer
- The Head of the Baron (quest item)
Bjork
Bjork is located in the northwestern part of the dungeon, at the end of a corridor. This is mostly a tank-and-spank encounter, but his knockback can cause problems if the tank is positioned carelessly.
Keep the boss away from nearby mobs and avoid being knocked into another group. The tank should watch their positioning, while the rest of the party can focus on dealing damage and healing.
Notable loot:
- Bonerust Leggings
- Tuskwrap Belt
- Corpse Chopper
Rath’mael
Rath’mael is found in the central area of the dungeon. You can see him before reaching his location, but you’ll need to clear the surrounding enemies to engage him.
His most important ability is Flamestrike, which should be interrupted or stunned whenever possible. He also deals area damage around himself throughout the fight. Melee players may need to stay in range and rely on healing to survive this damage.
Assign an interrupter before the fight begins, and make sure the healer is prepared for the steady damage.
Notable loot:
- Coldspire Staff
- Mirror of Rath’mael
- Rotmender’s Treads
- Blueprint: Fermenter
- Blueprint: Arcane Salvager
Viktor the Vile
Viktor the Vile is a summonable boss in the southwestern part of the dungeon. To start the encounter, interact with the Grim Campfire inside a ruined house. This triggers several waves of skeletons, with Viktor appearing during the final wave.
The waves are the most difficult part of this encounter. Enemies arrive quickly, so the tank needs reliable area threat while the healer carefully manages mana. Use potions and defensive abilities when needed, and avoid making the healer spend all their resources before Viktor appears.
Once Viktor is active, the fight is relatively simple compared with the preceding waves.
Notable loot:
- Bloodied Chestwraps
- Vileblood Scimitar
- Vilewalkers
The Abandoned
The Abandoned is another summonable boss, located in the western part of the dungeon. Approach the statue with glowing red eyes to trigger three waves of enemies. The boss appears after the waves are defeated.
Watch for three abilities:
- Frost Armor: Slows melee players who attack the boss.
- Drain Life: Targets a player and should be interrupted or stunned.
- Frost Nova: Roots nearby players in place.
Interrupt Drain Life whenever possible. Melee players should be mindful of Frost Armor’s slow, while the group should be ready to respond when Frost Nova lands.
Notable loot:
- Grip of Fear
- Rotmender’s Leggings
- Scepter of the Abandoned
Lordaeron Captain
The Lordaeron Captain is a special boss that can appear in the western part of the dungeon after all the other bosses have been defeated. He is friendly to Alliance players, so only Horde groups can fight him.
The encounter is fairly straightforward, but the surrounding enemies and the Captain’s patrol route can make the pull dangerous. Clear nearby mobs before engaging, then have the tank hold the Captain while the rest of the group focuses on him.
Notable loot:
- Phantom Armor
- Haunting Blade
Additional Dungeon Loot
In addition to boss drops, enemies throughout Ruins of Lordaeron can drop useful equipment, including:
- Rotmender’s Garb
- Rotmender’s Gloves
- Rotmender’s Sash
- Death Bindings
- Sword of the Fallen
These are worth keeping in mind if you’re farming the dungeon for upgrades.
Tips for a Smooth Run
- Pick up your faction’s dungeon quests before entering.
- Watch for Witherfang’s patrol near the entrance.
- Keep The Baron away from nearby mobs and prepare for his knockback.
- Assign interrupts for Rath’mael’s Flamestrike and The Abandoned’s Drain Life.
- Save mana and healing resources for the waves before Viktor the Vile.
- Clear nearby enemies before triggering the summonable bosses.
- Horde groups can return for the Lordaeron Captain after defeating the other bosses.
Ruins of Lordaeron is a useful dungeon for leveling and gearing characters around levels 15–20. With quests collected and a little coordination around interrupts, positioning, and summon events, your group can make the most of each run.
