Weeping Creek Valley is the first major area you explore after completing the prologue in Phantom Blade Zero. This region introduces you to the game’s exploration, combat, Bells, hidden paths, and Wulin Tales. There is a lot to discover here, from weapons and accessories to secret caves, powerful bosses, and items that you might miss if you only follow the main story.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through Weeping Creek Valley step by step, including where to find important collectibles, how to unlock side quests, which bosses you’ll encounter, and what you should come back for later. I’ve arranged the locations in a practical order so you can collect items while progressing instead of running back and forth across the entire map.
One thing to keep in mind is that some paths require specific Phantom Edges or key items. A few side quests can also become unavailable after progressing too far into the story, so it’s worth checking the Outpost and speaking to the important NPCs before leaving the region behind.
Phantom Blade Zero Weeping Creek Valley All Collectibles
Weeping Creek Valley is a lush area filled with tall trees, flowing water, abandoned structures, enemy camps, and the enormous Sha-Chi Tower. The region contains the chapters Against the Flow and Steel and Steam, along with several optional encounters and hidden locations.
Here is what you can find throughout the area.
| Collectible or activity | Total |
|---|---|
| Bells | 23 |
| Weapons and Phantom Edges | 7 |
| Accessories and medicines | 11 |
| Challenge locations | 1 |
| Sha-Chi Amber Shards or Fragments | 4 |
| Blackstone Shards or Fragments | 4 |
| Memory Flowers | 1 |
| Wulin Tales (side quests) | 6 |
The region also contains upgrade materials, key items, books, hidden chests, and additional rewards that require returning after unlocking new abilities.
Important Things to Do Before Leaving Weeping Creek Valley
Before moving on with the main story, I recommend checking these objectives:
- Complete Purge the Sect, which begins with the Brooding Old Archer at the Outpost.
- Start and progress Festering Secret by speaking with Forge and the guards nearby.
- Help Yu’er with Flesh Lily and Apprentice Healer.
- Start Four Fierce Axes by investigating the relevant item near Broken Puppet Valley.
- Speak with the Watchful Shadow Warden at Sha-Chi Tower to begin A Severed Mindseal.
- Defeat The Hunt and collect the Hunter’s Chain Sickle.
- Return to earlier locations to open grappling routes that were previously unreachable.
- Check the furnace and collect the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank and Primal Stone.
- Return to the Outpost when later story progression unlocks additional exploration.
Some side quests are reported to fail if you advance into the later story without completing them. In particular, make sure you finish the relevant Outpost quests before defeating the major boss at the end of Crimson Forest. The exact quest requirements can vary by objective, so check your quest log as you progress.
First Visit: Starting Bells and Early Collectibles
1. The Beginning Bell
The Beginning Bell is obtained automatically through the story. It marks the starting point for your exploration of Weeping Creek Valley.
As you move forward, pay attention to the surrounding platforms and elevated paths. Several areas that initially seem inaccessible become reachable after you obtain the Hunter’s Chain Sickle later in the region.
2. The Lady’s Rift Bell
Continue through the opening area until you reach the scaffolding around The Lady’s Rift.
Look for a ladder on the right side of the scaffolding and climb down to reach the Bell. This location is also important because it provides access to an optional challenge and an early accessory.
3. Challenge Location: Triple Threat
Near The Lady’s Rift Bell, look for the statue that leads to the Triple Threat challenge. Interacting with it starts an optional encounter involving the Aberrant Three-Faced Puppet.
This fight can be difficult if you attempt it too early. You can mark the location and return once your equipment and combat skills have improved.
4. Hunter’s Insight
Hunter’s Insight is an offensive accessory found in the area above The Lady’s Rift.
From the Bell, climb the ladder and cross the chain to reach the platform on the other side. Defeat the Transcended enemy waiting beyond the chain to obtain the accessory.
Hunter’s Insight increases damage and Sha-Chi depletion against enemies that are attacking you, making it useful for players who prefer an aggressive combat style.
5. Start the Flesh Lily Quest
Continue through the area until you meet Yu’er. Speak with her and ask about how to save her father to unlock the Flesh Lily Wulin Tale.
This is an important conversation, so don’t simply run past Yu’er. You will need to return to her during your exploration, and she is also connected to other rewards in the region.
6. Sanguine Twin
Near Yu’er, look for the waterfall and inspect the weapon rock at its base. You can collect Sanguine Twin here.
Make sure you explore around the waterfall before continuing, since this area also leads toward the next Bell.
7. First Meeting with Yu’er Bell
Climb the ladder near the waterfall to reach the First Meeting with Yu’er Bell.
This is one of the most useful early landmarks in the region because another accessory can be collected from a nearby enemy encounter.
8. Battle Wraps
From the First Meeting with Yu’er Bell, move across the bridge and look for a group of enemies fighting two masked warriors.
Focus on the warrior wielding a large sword. Defeating this enemy drops Battle Wraps, an offensive accessory that increases damage dealt to enemies by 5%.
You can also find Forged Metal by destroying crates near the Bell. Break nearby containers as you explore instead of leaving every resource behind.
Red Thread Barrier and Broken Puppet Valley
9. Red Thread Barrier Bell
Continue along the main route until you reach the giant red thread barrier. The Red Thread Barrier Bell is located on a small plateau nearby.
From this Bell, cross to the other side by using the chain. Follow the platform toward the watermill wheel and inspect the area around it to find an Exotic Copper Ingot.
Keep an eye out for small side platforms while crossing this section, as some materials are placed away from the main path.
10. Broken Puppet Valley Bell
Continue until you reach the small open area near a house. This is where you’ll find the Broken Puppet Valley Bell.
The surrounding area contains several useful items and another Wulin Tale.
11. Start Four Fierce Axes
Look for the relevant book near the tree by Broken Puppet Valley. Picking it up starts the Four Fierce Axes side quest.
Keep the quest in mind while exploring the Outpost and nearby buildings. It connects to several documents and other discoveries throughout the region.
12. Sha-Chi Amber Fragment Near the Barrier
Look for the enemy guarding the route associated with the red thread barrier. Defeating this enemy removes part of the obstruction and gives you access to a nearby chest containing a Sha-Chi Amber Fragment.
If a red barrier is still blocking your way, explore the surrounding enemy encounters before assuming you need a different route.
13. Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute
Continue through the main route to encounter Jagged Steel, also known as the Frenzied Brute.
Defeating this boss rewards you with Jagged Steel, a weapon. After the battle, activate the nearby Rustblade Pavilion Bell so you can return to this section more easily.
14. Rustblade Pavilion Bell and Another Sha-Chi Amber Fragment
From the Rustblade Pavilion Bell, climb the stairs and follow the path forward. After climbing a wall, watch for boxes beside the route.
An enemy will emerge from the boxes. Defeat it to obtain another Sha-Chi Amber Fragment.
This is an easy item to overlook if you sprint straight through the area, so check the side of the path before moving on.
Exploring the Outpost
The Outpost is an important hub in Weeping Creek Valley. You’ll find several NPCs, shops, side quests, weapons, and items here. Take time to explore the buildings and speak with the people you meet.
15. Outpost Courtyard Bell
After passing through the grassy area guarded by enemies, activate the Outpost Courtyard Bell.
Explore the rooftops and nearby buildings because some of the region’s side quests begin with NPCs found around this settlement.
16. Purge the Sect: Brooding Old Archer
Find the Brooding Old Archer on the roof of one of the Outpost buildings and speak with him to start Purge the Sect.
This quest is associated with the Feather Bow. After obtaining the Broken-String Bow later in the region, return to the archer to progress his request and receive the Feather Bow.
You can then revisit earlier locations to shoot down items hanging from trees.
Important: Complete this quest before progressing too far into the later story. It is reported to become unavailable after defeating the main boss at the end of Crimson Forest.
17. Sanguine Reach and Forge
Find Forge at the Outpost. Sanguine Reach is displayed on a weapon rack directly behind him, so inspect the area around his station.
Speak with Forge and then approach the guards nearby. This starts Festering Secret.
You should also return to Forge after obtaining the Dread Axe. Its ability to break chains opens additional paths around the station.
18. Outpost Bell
Activate the Outpost Bell beside Forge. This is a useful checkpoint for returning to the merchants and quest NPCs.
The Peddler is also found in the Outpost and sells upgrade materials. Check the available stock when you have enough currency and need to strengthen your equipment.
19. Cell Key and Blackstone Fragment
From the Outpost Bell, head straight ahead and climb the stairs into a small courtyard. Look for a body carrying the Cell Key.
Return toward the gate where you first entered the Outpost, then follow the slope down into a small cave. Use the Cell Key to open the locked gate and collect the Blackstone Fragment inside.
Keep the Cell Key in mind as you explore the area. Locked gates and side rooms often lead to useful upgrade resources.
20. Four Fierce Axes and Phantom Reforge Talisman
Look for the Petrified Mandate Disciple in the Outpost area and speak with him to progress Four Fierce Axes.
In the room across from this NPC, pick up the purple item to obtain a Phantom Reforge Talisman.
This is another reason to inspect nearby buildings rather than following only the main objective marker.
21. Dread Axe and Peng Meng, the Axemaster
Continue the main story until you face Peng Meng, the Axemaster.
Defeating Peng Meng rewards you with the Dread Axe, a Phantom Edge that can break chains blocking certain paths.
The Axemaster’s Fall Bell, also called the Crane-Shaped Bell, is found in the center of the boss arena. Activate it after the fight.
22. Sha-Chi Amber Fragment Behind the Chains
Once you have the Dread Axe, return to the Outpost Bell and look for chains blocking access to a nearby building.
Break the chains and enter the house. Defeat the enemy inside to obtain another Sha-Chi Amber Fragment.
This is an example of why it is worth revisiting earlier sections after acquiring new equipment.
23. Apprentice Healer and Medicine Case
When Yu’er catches up with you at the Outpost, speak with her and choose the conversation option about gathering herbs. This starts Apprentice Healer.
You will need to collect three herbs around the region and bring them back to Yu’er. Completing her request rewards you with the Medicine Case accessory.
Try to finish this quest before defeating Jing Ye, the Outlaw, in Crimson Forest, as the quest is reported to become unavailable after that point.
24. The Axemaster’s Holding Cell Bell
After the story sequence following Peng Meng, continue through the gate and reach the next area. Activate the Axemaster’s Holding Cell Bell when you arrive.
This area marks an important transition in the main story, so collect nearby items before moving forward.
25. Focus Pill and Blood-Stopper Vine
From the Axemaster’s Holding Cell Bell, leave the area and follow the left-hand path. Break the barricade to reach a chest containing a Focus Pill.
Next, return toward the bridge and inspect the small river underneath it. You can collect the Blood-Stopper Vine along the stream.
Follow the waterway toward its end to find a chest containing Broadplate Metal.
26. Creek Valley Plains Entrance Bell
Cross the bridge and continue toward the small gate. The Creek Valley Plains Entrance Bell is located nearby.
Activate it before exploring the surrounding camp and tower routes. Several optional collectibles and later shortcuts connect back to this location.
Archer Camp and Sha-Chi Tower
27. Broken-String Bow and Blackstone Fragment
From the Creek Valley Plains Entrance Bell, climb the hill toward the archer camp. Defeat the enemies scattered around the area.
The encounter rewards you with a Broken-String Bow and a Blackstone Fragment.
Don’t forget to return to the Brooding Old Archer at the Outpost after obtaining the bow to progress Purge the Sect and unlock the Feather Bow.
28. Token of Pursuit
Look for the golden chest near the archers’ camp. Open it to obtain the Token of Pursuit, an accessory.
29. Ruthless Archer Camp Bell
Climb the stairs beyond the archer camp to find the Ruthless Archer Camp Bell.
Once you’ve activated it, cross the large wooden bridge and continue up the stairs toward Sha-Chi Tower.
30. Valley Sha-Chi Tower 1st Floor Bell
After crossing the wooden bridge, climb the stairs to reach the Valley Sha-Chi Tower 1st Floor Bell.
Explore the area around the tower carefully. A hidden route below the structure leads to Hua, while other paths eventually connect to the furnace and the tower’s upper levels.
31. Hua, Deadly Betrothed and Scarlet Wraithblade
From the first-floor Bell, go around the right side of the tower and look for a hole in the ground. Slide down the wooden bridge to reach the lower area.
Follow the path to the left and continue to its end, where you’ll encounter Hua, Deadly Betrothed.
Defeat Hua to obtain the Scarlet Wraithblade. You can also activate the Flesh Lily Fields Bell in this area.
32. Twin Flesh Lilies
After defeating Hua, inspect the area around her altar and corpse. You can collect the Twin Flesh Lilies here.
Take these back to Yu’er at the Outpost to progress the Flesh Lily quest. If you’re working toward completing all the region’s side quests, don’t leave this item behind.
33. Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit Bell
Return to the tower and climb the stairs to reach the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit Bell.
Speak with the Watchful Shadow Warden nearby to start A Severed Mindseal.
This quest is connected to the Sha-Chi furnace and the Primal Stone, so pay attention to the items you collect during the next steps.
34. Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank
From the Summit Bell, climb onto the roof and look for a ladder leading down on the left side.
Defeat the enemy in this section to obtain the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank.
You will need this item at the furnace. Keep track of it after use, because it is also required to access another reward in the tower’s lower section.
35. Primal Stone and the Furnace
Return to the Valley Sha-Chi Tower 1st Floor and enter the tower. Use the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank to unlock the back section of the furnace.
Collect the Primal Stone from the opened area. If the crank remains in the furnace after use, make sure you pick it up again before leaving.
Bring the Primal Stone to the Watchful Shadow Warden to progress A Severed Mindseal.
36. Waterfall Bridge Bell
From the Summit Bell, continue climbing through the tower until you can drop into another section. Follow the route toward the bridge to find the Waterfall Bridge Bell.
There is a small campfire beneath the Bell, along with a chest containing materials. Search the area before moving across the bridge.
37. Great Waterfall Bell and The Hunt
Cross the bridge and follow the path ahead to reach the Great Waterfall Bell.
The route leads to another encounter with The Hunt. Prepare for the fight before moving forward, as defeating this boss rewards you with the Hunter’s Chain Sickle.
38. Hunter’s Chain Sickle
Defeating The Hunt rewards you with the Hunter’s Chain Sickle, a Phantom Edge used to grapple and reach elevated platforms.
This is one of the most important items to obtain before completing your exploration of Weeping Creek Valley. It opens routes that were previously inaccessible, including hidden platforms, upper tower areas, and additional treasure locations.
After obtaining it, revisit earlier Bells and inspect the surrounding cliffs for grapple points.
39. Pendant of Righteousness
Return to The Beginning Bell and backtrack toward the start of the game. Use the Hunter’s Chain Sickle to grapple onto the platform at the edge.
Open the chest on the platform to collect the Pendant of Righteousness.
40. Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key
Return to the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit Bell and climb onto the roof. Use the Hunter’s Chain Sickle to reach the very top of the tower and collect the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key.
This key opens the gate near the Creek Valley Plains Entrance Bell, allowing you to explore an optional section that was previously blocked.
41. Upper Platform Near Ruthless Archer Camp
Return to the area below the Ruthless Archer Camp and look for an elevated platform you can reach with the Hunter’s Chain Sickle.
Open the chest there to collect a Mechanical Gear, Twinned Metal, and the other listed materials. The source notes also list an item as “Forgetal x3”; check the in-game item name when collecting this chest.
Long Pillar Overlook and the Hidden Cave
42. Long Pillar Overlook Bell
Use the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key to open the gate near the Creek Valley Plains Entrance Bell.
Follow the path on the right. You’ll find a small house just before a bridge, with the Long Pillar Overlook Bell inside.
This location also contains story information involving Soul, Zuo Shang, and Mu Tianmiao.
43. Rusted Loong Key
Open the chest directly behind the Long Pillar Overlook Bell to obtain the Rusted Loong Key.
You will need this key to open a locked gate farther along the route, so don’t leave the area without collecting it.
44. Congealeaf
From the Long Pillar Overlook Bell, cross the bridge and move across the scaffolding. Look for an item on the ground beside an enemy to collect Congealeaf.
45. Sha-Chi Amber Fragment in the Locked Area
Use the Rusted Loong Key on the locked door behind you. Enter the area and defeat the enemies inside.
One of these enemies drops a Sha-Chi Amber Fragment.
Continue through the cave and break the barricade at the end to reach the next Bell.
46. Weeping Creek Long Pillar Bell
After breaking through the barricade, activate the Weeping Creek Long Pillar Bell.
The large dragon-shaped stone head nearby is connected to a boss encounter, and the surrounding river also contains another useful item.
47. Gold-Masked One and Counterstrike Bracers
Interact with the dragon head to trigger the fight against The Gold-Masked One.
This encounter can be challenging, so make sure your equipment is ready before starting it. Defeating the boss rewards you with the Counterstrike Bracers accessory.
After the fight, follow the stream beyond the dragon head to collect Blemish Goldweed.
48. Blackstone Fragment Near the River
From the Long Pillar Overlook area, cross the bridge and drop down toward the small village. Follow the river north until you reach a chest containing a Blackstone Fragment.
This is a useful stop while completing the optional routes opened by the gate key.
49. Blackstone Fragment in the Cave
Return toward the small cave beneath the tower and follow the path through the area. Climb the stairs until you reach the monk enemies.
Defeat the enemies here. One of them drops another Blackstone Fragment.
Continue along the route to reach the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Base area.
Valley Sha-Chi Tower Base and Remaining Tower Items
50. Valley Sha-Chi Tower Base Bell
After exploring the cave and defeating the enemies, continue forward to find the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Base Bell.
Activate it before entering the furnace area so you have a convenient checkpoint for the remaining collectibles.
51. Reflex Device
Use the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank on the furnace beside the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Base Bell to obtain the Reflex Device accessory.
If you left the crank in the furnace on the first floor of Sha-Chi Tower, return there and retrieve it before continuing.
52. Vessel Restorative
From the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Base Bell, climb the nearby ladder and follow the path upward. Search the chest near the enemies at the top to collect a Vessel Restorative.
53. Additional Furnace Materials
Explore the upper levels of the furnace to find a chest containing:
- Broadplate Metal x2
- Twinned Metal x3
- Remnant Dust
Continue upward and enter the furnace, then use the crawl space to exit onto a platform. Open the chest there to collect another Vessel Restorative.
You can also unlock the nearby gate to create a shortcut back to the first floor of Sha-Chi Tower.
Crimson Manor and the Final Hidden Areas
54. Crimson Manor Bell
Return to the Long Pillar Overlook Bell and backtrack into the small cave on the right.
Look for an enemy carrying an explosive on its back. Attract its attention and lure it toward the large metal cage in the center of the area.
The explosion will reveal a route that allows you to use the elevator. Ride it down to reach the Crimson Manor Bell.
55. Ancient Armor Fragment
Once you reach the Crimson Manor Bell, inspect the area to its left to collect the Ancient Armor Fragment accessory.
The manor also contains further secrets that require additional progression, so remember this location if you’re aiming for a complete region checklist.
56. Memory Flower
The Memory Flower requires additional progression and the Puppet’s Tongue item.
Once you meet the requirement, return to the Crimson Manor Bell, open the door, and head to the second-floor balcony to collect it.
57. Alloyed Scythe Blade
The Alloyed Scythe Blade is a tempering material obtained by defeating The Puppet Scavenger and Acolyte Hansui.
This encounter requires the Tiger Canon Phantom Edge, so you may need to return after progressing further through the game.
58. Pidgeon Feed
From the Weeping Creek Long Pillar Bell, inspect the nearby wall and destroy it to collect Pidgeon Feed, another tempering material.
Returning to the Outpost After Later Story Progression
Some items and activities are easier to collect after completing more of the story. Return to the Outpost once you have progressed far enough to unlock the relevant routes.
59. Prayer Beads
After reaching the appropriate later story point and unlocking Leave None Alive, return to the Outpost.
Defeat the monk near the shop to obtain Prayer Beads.
This item is connected to a later accessory opportunity in the Village of Lu, so keep it if you plan to complete more side content.
60. The Lady’s Cave Bell
From the Outpost Bell, cross the bridge that was previously blocked by NPCs and enter the small town.
Climb the building on the left and break the barricade to enter the cave. Follow the path through the cave until you reach an open room containing The Lady’s Cave Bell.
61. Shenji’s Ring and Colorful Pinwheel
From The Lady’s Cave Bell, follow the path until you exit the cave. Look for a chest on the right containing Shenji’s Ring.
You can also pick up the Colorful Pinwheel near the chest.
62. Strategist Xu Feng’s Secret Letter
From the chest containing Shenji’s Ring, look toward the elevated platform above the area. Use the Hunter’s Chain Sickle to reach it.
You can collect The Four Axes Case Files – Strategist Xu Feng’s Secret Letter here.
This is one of the documents tied to the broader Four Fierce Axes storyline.

All Wulin Tales and Side Quests
There are six listed Wulin Tales in Weeping Creek Valley. Speak to the relevant NPCs and inspect quest-related items before progressing too far into the story.
| Wulin Tale | How to start or progress |
|---|---|
| Flesh Lily | Speak with Yu’er and ask how to save her father. Collect the Twin Flesh Lilies and return to her. |
| Festering Secret | Speak with Forge and interact with the guards near his station. |
| Purge the Sect | Talk to the Brooding Old Archer at the Outpost. Return after obtaining the Broken-String Bow. |
| Four Fierce Axes | Pick up the relevant book near Broken Puppet Valley and speak with the Petrified Mandate Disciple. |
| Apprentice Healer | Speak with Yu’er at the Outpost and choose the option about gathering herbs. Return after collecting the three required herbs. |
| A Severed Mindseal | Speak with the Watchful Shadow Warden at the top of Sha-Chi Tower. Obtain the Primal Stone and bring it to him. |
Which Side Quests Should You Prioritize?
I recommend starting Purge the Sect, Festering Secret, and Apprentice Healer as soon as you encounter their relevant NPCs. These quests are associated with progression-sensitive rewards and may become unavailable after specific story milestones.
For Flesh Lily and A Severed Mindseal, make sure you collect their key items and return to the relevant NPCs instead of assuming that picking up the item completes the quest.
All Important NPCs in Weeping Creek Valley
These are the important characters listed for this region.
- The Flesh Sculptor
- Yu’er
- Forge
- The Peddler
- Watchful Shadow Warden
- Brooding Old Archer
- Mu Tianmiao
- Man in Black
You will also encounter other named characters and quest-related NPCs, including the Petrified Mandate Disciple, the Swordsman Captain, and the guards around Forge’s station.
Make a habit of speaking with NPCs more than once when you return to the Outpost. Some dialogue options are connected to side quests, while others provide access to items or additional story information.
All Bosses in Weeping Creek Valley
The following bosses are listed for the region:

| Peng Meng, the Axemaster | Dread Axe |

The Hunt appears during the region’s progression, and defeating it is particularly important because the Hunter’s Chain Sickle unlocks new exploration routes.
Some encounters are optional or easier to complete after you improve your equipment. If a challenge feels too difficult, mark the location and return later rather than spending too much time fighting it before you’re ready.

|---|---|
| Sanguine Twin | At the weapon rock near the waterfall by Yu’er |

The supplied route identifies fragments in the following locations:
- Chest near the enemy guarding the red thread barrier.
