The Hunger Issue quest in Hero Siege is one of those early quests that sounds simple until the game sends you between several different zones without making it completely obvious where you need to go next.
You need to collect two different ingredients, travel through another area, and finally find the cauldron where the stew can be cooked. The ingredients themselves are not especially difficult to collect, but the final cooking location is where many players end up wondering what they missed.
If you are stuck on Hunger Issue, this walkthrough takes you through the entire quest from start to finish, including where to find the Maggot Carcasses, where the Crimson Pumpkins spawn, and exactly where to find the cauldron.
Hero Siege Hunger Issue Quest Season 10 Guide – Ingredients, Cook
The Hunger Issue quest comes from Ahriman, the Crow Keeper, in the Outskirts of Inoya.
Ahriman is also involved in the previous Pest Control quest, where you are sent into the Rat Den dungeon to deal with Fragrat.
Complete Pest Control and return to Ahriman.
Once you turn that quest in, Ahriman gives you Hunger Issue.
From there, the quest takes you through three areas:
- Fields of Battle for Maggot Carcasses
- Pumpkin Patch for Crimson Pumpkins
- Woodhill Plains to cook the Maggot Stew
The third step is the one that causes the most confusion, so don’t worry if you feel like you’ve searched the previous zones and cannot find the cooking location.
Step 1: Collect Maggot Carcasses in Fields of Battle
Your first objective is to collect 30 Maggot Carcasses.
Travel to Fields of Battle, which is the area that comes after the Outskirts of Inoya.
Once you arrive, start killing the maggots crawling around the zone.
The Maggot Carcasses drop from the maggots you kill, so there is no special interaction or hidden object you need to find.
Just clear the area normally.
You should have enough Maggot Carcasses by the time you have made your way through the zone.
If your inventory fills up while farming them, make sure you are actually picking up the quest items before moving on.
The objective requires:
30 Maggot Carcasses
Once you have all 30, you can continue toward the next area.
Step 2: Harvest Crimson Pumpkins in the Pumpkin Patch
After collecting the Maggot Carcasses, continue across the Witching River and enter the Pumpkin Patch.
Your next objective is to collect 5 Crimson Pumpkins.
The Crimson Pumpkins can be found on the ground throughout the Pumpkin Patch.
Look for the pumpkins you can interact with and collect them as you explore the area.
There is one important detail here: not every pumpkin interaction gives you a Crimson Pumpkin.
Some pumpkins instead transform into a Malformed Pumpkin enemy.
This is normal.
The outcome is random, so if you interact with a pumpkin and it turns into an enemy instead of adding to your quest counter, you have not done anything wrong.
Kill the enemy and continue searching for more pumpkins.
You need:
5 Crimson Pumpkins
The pumpkins often appear in groups, with clusters commonly containing around four pumpkins. Because of this, you will generally need to search around a couple of groups before reaching the required five.
A Quick Pumpkin Collection Tip
There is a useful interaction trick that can make collecting the pumpkins much faster.
When several pumpkins are close together, you do not necessarily have to click each one individually.
Move close to the group and use your interact key.
With the default controls, this is F.
The interaction can pick up multiple matching items within a small nearby area.
Players sometimes refer to this as “Wi-Fi looting”, and it can save quite a bit of time when several quest items are sitting close together.
Just be careful not to rush through the interaction while enemies are attacking you.
If necessary, clear the nearby enemies first and then collect the pumpkins without interruption.
Step 3: Cook the Stew in Woodhill Plains
This is the part of Hunger Issue where most players get stuck.
After collecting all of the required ingredients, do not go back through the Pumpkin Patch looking for a cauldron.
The cauldron is not located where you collected the final ingredient.
Instead, continue progressing forward until you reach Woodhill Plains.
This is important because the cooking objective is completed in the next zone.
Once you enter Woodhill Plains, continue toward the Black Tower dungeon.
Near the entrance to the Black Tower, you will find a cauldron.
Ahriman is standing beside it.
This is the cooking location you have been looking for.
Interact with the cauldron while you have the required quest ingredients.
The game will cook the Maggot Stew and advance the quest.
After that, speak with Ahriman to complete Hunger Issue.
Where to Find the Cauldron in Hunger Issue
If you have all the ingredients but cannot figure out what to do next, this is the key information:
The Hunger Issue cauldron is in Woodhill Plains, near the entrance to the Black Tower dungeon.
It is not in Fields of Battle.
It is not in the Pumpkin Patch.
It is not next to the pumpkins where you collected the final ingredient.
You need to keep progressing forward into Woodhill Plains.
Once you reach the area, the cauldron can be found near the Black Tower entrance with Ahriman standing beside it.
This is why the quest can feel bugged or incomplete when you first reach the Pumpkin Patch objective.
You can have every ingredient required and still be unable to finish the quest because the cooking station is in the next zone.
There is no need to restart the game or repeat the earlier areas.
Just continue forward.
What to Do If the Cauldron Is Not Appearing
If you have collected all 30 Maggot Carcasses and 5 Crimson Pumpkins, check that the quest is actually showing the cooking objective.
Then continue into Woodhill Plains rather than returning to the earlier zones.
The cauldron is associated with the next progression area, so searching the Pumpkin Patch for it will only waste time.
Once you reach the Black Tower entrance, look around the area where Ahriman is standing.
Interact with the cauldron and then speak to Ahriman.
That should finish the quest.
Hunger Issue Quest Reward
After cooking the Maggot Stew and speaking with Ahriman, the Hunger Issue quest is complete.
The reward includes experience and a couple of runes, which can be useful during the early part of your character’s progression.
It is not the biggest reward in the game, but completing the quest is worthwhile if you are trying to clear the available quests and continue progressing naturally through the campaign.
It also saves you from having to come back later and remember which ingredients you still needed.
