The depths of Mariana’s Veil have just become much more dangerous. Fisch has introduced the Obsidian Trench, a completely new area packed with mysterious crystals, environmental hazards, new fishing mechanics, quests, and a major boss encounter.
If you’re jumping into the update and wondering where to begin, there’s quite a bit to figure out. You’ll first need to investigate the strange mineral veins, work with Vaelor’s descendants, solve a mysterious riddle, and unlock the path into the new trench.
Once you finally get inside, the real challenge begins. In this guide, we’ll walk through the new Mariana’s Awakening content, explain the Obsidian Trench mechanics, cover the Veiled Charybdis and Skolopendra encounters, and show you what you can expect from the new Chasm-Stalker Rod and expanded bestiary.
Fisch Mariana’s Awakening Update – Codes, Obsidian Trench
Your first stop is Roslit Bay.
Look for Vaelor and speak with him to begin the new questline. Vaelor has discovered glowing mineral veins appearing throughout Mariana’s Veil, and you’ll be tasked with investigating what’s happening.
This questline sends you across the different layers of Mariana’s Veil rather than keeping you in one location.
You’ll need to interact with five of Vaelor’s descendants, with each one connected to a different layer.
Meet Vaelor’s Five Descendants
The new quest progression revolves around five descendants. Each one has a specialized mutation quest associated with their respective layer.
Ignis
Ignis is associated with the Volcanic Vents.
You’ll need to complete the mutation-related objectives connected to Ignis as you work your way through the Mariana’s Awakening storyline.
Glacius
Next is Glacius, who is connected to Challenger’s Deep.
This is another required stop during the investigation, so be prepared to travel between the different layers.
Tenebris
Tenebris watches over the Abyssal Zenith.
His quest forms another part of the progression needed to eventually reach the newly discovered trench.
Luminis
Luminis is connected to the Calm Zone.
Even though the Calm Zone sounds much safer than some of the other areas, you’ll still need to complete the associated quest to continue progressing.
Resonus
The final descendant is Resonus, who is tied to the Veil of the Forsaken.
Once you’ve worked through the five descendants and their objectives, you can move on to the next major part of the update.
The Crevice Wall Puzzle
Eventually, your exploration will lead you to the mysterious Crevice Wall.
This wall contains an active riddle, and you’ll need to figure it out before you can continue.
The puzzle is connected to the five layers, and your next objective is to ignite all of the layer gems.
Getting all of the gems activated is what ultimately helps open the route toward the Abyss Gate.
You’ll also receive Gauntlets as rewards for completing the related quests, giving you another reason to finish the objectives instead of skipping through the progression.
Unlocking the Obsidian Trench
After dealing with the Crevice Wall and activating the required layer gems, you’ll finally gain access to the Obsidian Trench.
This is the newest layer added to Mariana’s Veil.
The area is filled with strange dark crystals and has a much more dangerous atmosphere than the existing layers. But the environment itself is also a mechanic you’ll have to manage.
Trench Suppression Explained
The moment you enter the Obsidian Trench, you’ll encounter a new environmental debuff called Trench Suppression.
This makes spending extended periods inside the trench more difficult.
Thankfully, the area contains special glowing white crystals.
When you find one, interact with it to temporarily purge your suppression levels.
So while exploring the trench, don’t just focus on finding fish. Keep looking around for the white crystals because they can help you manage the suppression effect and stay in the area longer.
The Veiled Charybdis Encounter
One of the most interesting mechanics in the new layer involves Charybdis.
You can hook Charybdis while fishing in the rivers of the Obsidian Trench. However, this isn’t a normal fishing encounter.
Once you hook it, you’ll have to deal with a special reeling minigame.
The objective is to maintain control and avoid being dragged into the dangerous waters.
Avoid the Whirlpools
The biggest problem during this encounter is the whirlpools.
If you get caught by them, they can take away your rod control, making the reeling minigame much more difficult.
You’ll need to react quickly and manage your rod carefully if you want to successfully catch the Veiled Charybdis.
And there’s an even bigger reason to catch them.
How Skolopendra Appears
Keep catching Veiled Charybdis, and eventually you’ll trigger the next stage of the event.
After catching around 4 to 6 Veiled Charybdis, the crystals throughout the trench will change and become deep red.
That’s your warning that something is about to happen.
The red crystals awaken Skolopendra, turning the area into a major boss encounter.
Fighting Skolopendra
Skolopendra is the boss associated with the Obsidian Trench.
Instead of simply fighting it through standard fishing mechanics, you’ll have to participate in a dedicated boss minigame.
The encounter also includes mysterious effects that make the fight different from normal catches.
So if you’re heading into this fight for the first time, don’t expect it to work exactly like ordinary fishing.
Successfully conquering Skolopendra is important because it leads directly to one of the major rewards introduced in the update.
Chasm-Stalker Rod
After completing the Obsidian Trench content and defeating Skolopendra, you can obtain the new Chasm-Stalker Rod.
This rod comes with several powerful passive abilities, along with a new mutation.
But its biggest unique feature is a completely new streak mechanic.
A Unique Streak Mechanic
The streak system is exclusive to the Chasm-Stalker Rod.
This gives the rod its own progression mechanic instead of simply behaving like another standard fishing rod.
If you enjoy experimenting with different rod abilities, the Chasm-Stalker is one of the biggest additions worth checking out after finishing the new content.
New Fish in the Obsidian Trench
Of course, the new layer wouldn’t be complete without a new collection of fish.
The Obsidian Trench adds 12 new species, with two of them currently being hidden catches.
Here’s the known list:
- Obsidian Gaveltooth
- Cinder-Crust Gar
- Scoria Scorpionfish
- Shatter-Tooth Shark
- Magma-Glass Marlin
- Tectonic Toadfish
- Ash-Cloud Angelfish
- Shatterjaw Shark
- Pumice Puffer
- Basalt Behemoth
- 2 hidden species
If you’re trying to complete the new bestiary, expect to spend plenty of time fishing around the trench.
More Mariana’s Veil Species
The update also expands the bestiary outside of the Obsidian Trench.
There are 10 additional species distributed across the existing Mariana’s Veil layers.
The new species are:
- Charred Coelacanth
- Obsidian-Plated Piranha
- Glacial Gulper
- Hoarfrost Halibut
- Lumin-Lure Lanternfish
- Void-Drifter Jelly
- Geode Grouper
- Pearl-Plated Pleco
- Gargoyle Goby
- Wraith-Whisper Ray
This means there’s new bestiary progress to make even if you haven’t completed the Obsidian Trench yet.
New Fisch Code
There’s also a new code available alongside the update.
MarianaIsGoingCrazy
Redeem:
MarianaIsGoingCrazy
As always, it’s worth using the code as soon as possible because Fisch codes can expire.
What’s Coming Next?
The Obsidian Trench isn’t the only thing Fisch players have to look forward to.
The developers have teased that FischFright 3 leaks are on the way over the next few weeks.
That should give us more information about the upcoming Halloween-themed content as the event gets closer.
There’s also another piece of content that players are waiting for: Nate’s quest, which has been teased as coming soon.
The Mariana’s Awakening update gives Fisch players a whole new progression path inside Mariana’s Veil.
You’re not just getting another fishing location. The update combines exploration, quests, puzzles, environmental debuffs, special fishing encounters, a boss minigame, and a unique rod system into one progression.
If you’re starting the update now, I’d recommend completing the Vaelor questline first and taking the time to understand the five layer objectives. Once you reach the Obsidian Trench, keep those white crystals in mind because Trench Suppression can become a major part of your exploration.
Then comes the fun part: hunting Veiled Charybdis, triggering Skolopendra, and eventually getting your hands on the Chasm-Stalker Rod.
And with FischFright 3 leaks and Nate’s quest also on the horizon, there’s clearly more content coming after this update.
