Doom The Dark Ages Revelations Weapons Tier List 2026

One of the things I love about Doom: The Dark Ages is that almost every weapon feels powerful. Unlike a lot of shooters where you quickly find one overpowered gun and ignore everything else, Doom encourages you to constantly swap weapons depending on the enemy, your ammo, and the situation.

That said, some weapons simply give you more value throughout the campaign. Whether you’re playing on higher difficulties or just want the smoothest experience, a handful of weapons consistently outperform the rest thanks to their damage, versatility, and ammo efficiency.

This tier list ranks every major weapon in Doom: The Dark Ages based on overall performance in the campaign, upgrade potential, and how useful they remain from beginning to end.

Doom The Dark Ages Revelations Weapons Tier List

S-Tier Weapons

These are the weapons you’ll rarely regret equipping. They’re effective in almost every situation and stay relevant for the entire game.

Combat Shotgun

If someone asked me which weapon I’d recommend upgrading first, I’d probably say the Combat Shotgun.

It isn’t the flashiest weapon in the game, but it’s easily one of the most dependable. It deals excellent damage, fires quickly, and never feels out of place whether you’re clearing weak demons or taking chunks out of larger enemies.

What really pushes it into S Tier is its upgrade tree.

The Incendiary path lets you burn enemies, while upgrades like Smelt and Flare-Up create additional armor pickups, helping you stay alive during longer fights. By the time you’ve unlocked Eat This!, the shotgun becomes even more devastating at close range.

Best Combat Shotgun Upgrades

  • Incendiary
  • Smelt
  • Flare-Up
  • Eat This!

Pros

  • Amazing close-range damage
  • Great survivability through armor generation
  • Reliable throughout the campaign
  • Strong against armored enemies

Cons

  • Slightly weaker at longer ranges

Shredder

The Shredder might not hit as hard as some later weapons, but it’s incredibly efficient.

Its biggest strength is consistency.

Ammo lasts a long time, the recoil is manageable, and it’s excellent for softening enemies before they get anywhere near you.

Once you unlock Ricochet, the weapon becomes even better since shots can bounce into nearby enemies while you’re focusing on tougher targets.

It’s one of those guns you’ll keep returning to because it simply works in almost every encounter.

Best Shredder Upgrades

  • Ricochet
  • No Frills
  • Barbed

Pros

  • Excellent ammo economy
  • Easy to control
  • Fantastic crowd damage
  • Great at medium range

Cons

  • Doesn’t burst down bosses as quickly as heavier weapons

Shield Saw

The Shield Saw is much more than a defensive tool.

Besides blocking attacks, it’s your primary method of parrying Hell Surge projectiles, solving environmental puzzles, and damaging enemies from a distance.

Its versatility alone makes it deserving of S Tier.

The various Rune upgrades dramatically improve its effectiveness, giving it surprising offensive power while maintaining its defensive utility.

Best Shield Rune Upgrades

  • Induction
  • Megaburst
  • Gigawatt

Pros

  • Extremely versatile
  • Unique parry mechanic
  • Strong ranged utility
  • Useful during exploration

Cons

  • Requires good timing to maximize value

Flail

Many players immediately assume the Dreadmace is the strongest melee weapon.

After spending time with both, I actually found myself using the Flail much more often.

The biggest reason is simple—three charges.

Having multiple charges lets you stay aggressive instead of waiting for a lengthy recharge after every powerful attack.

Its upgrades also improve shield breaking and reduce cooldowns, making it incredibly efficient throughout longer battles.

Best Flail Upgrades

  • Conditioning
  • Ignite
  • Resonant
  • Engulf

Pros

  • Multiple charges
  • Excellent sustained melee damage
  • Fast recharge
  • Great against armored enemies

Cons

  • Slightly lower burst damage than Dreadmace

A-Tier Weapons

These weapons are incredibly strong but usually have one weakness that prevents them from reaching the top tier.

Super Shotgun

There’s no denying how satisfying the Super Shotgun feels.

Every blast delivers massive damage, especially against elite demons.

The downside is that every shot matters.

Its slower reload speed and limited ammo force you to think carefully before firing, making it slightly less forgiving than the Combat Shotgun.

With the Speed Loader upgrade, it becomes much smoother to use, but ammo management remains its biggest limitation.

Best Upgrades

  • Speed Loader
  • Shatter
  • Eat This!

Pros

  • Massive close-range damage
  • Excellent against tougher enemies

Cons

  • Slow reload
  • Burns through ammo quickly

Impaler

If raw damage is all you care about, the Impaler deserves serious attention.

Each shot hits extremely hard, making it ideal for larger enemies and mini-bosses.

However, the slower firing speed can become a problem when multiple aggressive demons rush you at once.

It’s powerful, but it demands better positioning than the Shredder.

Best Upgrades

  • Stalwart
  • Chronospike
  • Lobotomy

Pros

  • Incredible single-target damage
  • Excellent precision weapon

Cons

  • Slow rate of fire
  • Less effective against swarms

Ballistic Force Crossbow

This is easily one of the highest-damage weapons in the game.

The catch?

Its ammunition is incredibly limited.

Unlike most weapons, Crossbow ammo isn’t easily replenished through normal combat, meaning you’ll rarely want to spam it.

Think of it as your emergency button rather than your everyday weapon.

Use it when a dangerous elite absolutely needs to disappear.

Pros

  • Enormous burst damage
  • Fantastic boss weapon

Cons

  • Extremely limited ammunition
  • Poor ammo economy

Dreadmace

The Dreadmace delivers absurd melee damage.

Landing a successful hit feels incredibly satisfying.

Unfortunately, that’s balanced by its biggest drawback: only one charge.

Missing an attack or using it at the wrong time leaves you waiting for a recharge, making it less reliable than the Flail despite its higher damage.

Best Upgrades

  • Reaper
  • Obliterator
  • Riposte

Pros

  • Highest melee burst damage
  • Excellent against elite enemies

Cons

  • Single charge
  • Long recharge time

B-Tier Weapons

These weapons are perfectly usable but tend to be more situational than the higher-ranked options.

Cycler

The Cycler shines when fighting enemies protected by energy shields.

Its Shock upgrades allow you to stun enemies while steadily breaking their defenses.

Outside of shield-heavy encounters, however, it doesn’t stand out compared to stronger alternatives.

Best Upgrades

  • Shock
  • Amplify
  • Fulmination
  • Overload

Rocket Launcher

Explosions are always fun.

The Rocket Launcher deals heavy splash damage and clears groups quickly from a distance.

Its only real weakness is close-range combat, where splash damage can easily hurt you.

Best Upgrades

  • Cannibalism
  • Cooked
  • Blood Sacrifice
  • Bloodlust

Pulverizer

The Pulverizer is excellent for mowing through weaker demons.

Its wide attack spread makes clearing crowds fairly easy, although it struggles once tougher enemies begin appearing more frequently.

Best Upgrades

  • Runic Skull
  • Runic Strike
  • Flay

Chainshot Reaver

The Chainshot Reaver delivers huge single-hit damage, but it’s difficult to justify over other heavy weapons.

While later upgrades improve its area damage, the Rocket Launcher generally performs that role more consistently.

Best Upgrades

  • Eldritch Blessing
  • Gravitational Flux
  • Cosmic Breach

C-Tier Weapons

These aren’t terrible weapons—they’re simply replaced by stronger alternatives as you progress through the campaign.

Accelerator

The Accelerator serves its purpose early in the game.

It’s useful for stripping energy shields, but once you unlock the Cycler, there’s very little reason to keep using it.

Best Upgrades

  • Feedback
  • Modulator
  • Heatblast
  • Overload

Ravager

The Ravager improves upon the Pulverizer in some ways but sacrifices the wider attack coverage that made the Pulverizer so useful.

Its Vampirism upgrade helps with survivability, though it still feels more situational overall.

Best Upgrades

  • Vampirism
  • Ignition
  • Supplier

Power Gauntlet

Every player starts with the Power Gauntlet, and honestly, it does its job well.

The problem isn’t that it’s weak—it’s simply outclassed once the Flail and Dreadmace become available.

It’s a solid starter weapon that naturally fades out as your arsenal expands.

Best Upgrades

  • Finisher
  • Duelist
  • Jolt
  • Encore

Grenade Launcher

By the time you become comfortable with the Grenade Launcher, the Rocket Launcher usually isn’t far away.

Since the Rocket Launcher performs a similar role much more effectively, the Grenade Launcher rarely gets enough time to truly shine.

Best Upgrades

  • Fragment
  • Rupture
  • Cataclysm

If you’re short on upgrade resources, I’d recommend prioritizing these weapons first:

  1. Combat Shotgun – The most reliable weapon throughout the campaign.
  2. Shredder – Excellent ammo efficiency and crowd control.
  3. Shield Saw – Essential for both combat and exploration.
  4. Flail – The best all-around melee weapon.
  5. Ballistic Force Crossbow – Save upgrades for later if you want maximum boss damage.

These five weapons provide the best balance of damage, versatility, and survivability, making them worthwhile investments regardless of your preferred playstyle.
