Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Phase 1 Tier List – Best Modifiers

The C.H.A.O.S event is finally back in Clash Royale, and if you thought the first version was already ridiculous, Phase 1 somehow takes things even further. Almost every featured card has three different modifiers (Common, Rare, and Epic), and some of them completely change how the card works.

After looking through every modifier revealed for Phase 1, it’s pretty clear that not all of them are created equal. Some can win games almost by themselves, while others are simply fun gimmicks that won’t have much impact unless the matchup is perfect.

If you’re wondering which modifiers are actually worth chasing and which ones are just for laughs, here’s my complete Phase 1 tier list along with an explanation of every new modifier.

S Tier (The Most Broken Modifiers)

These modifiers can completely change a match on their own. If you unlock one of these, you’re getting one of the biggest advantages available in C.H.A.O.S Phase 1.

Arrows (Epic) – Archer Queen Spawn: Drops an Archer Queen that can immediately use her ability, turning a simple spell into an incredibly powerful offensive play.

Bandit (Epic) – Clone Dash: Creates Bandit clones whenever she dashes, making her amazing against swarms while also applying huge pressure.

Ronin (Epic) – Rage Aura: Every successful parry gives a Rage effect to nearby allies, including your Crown Towers, making both offense and defense much stronger.

Tesla (Epic) – Goblinstein Spawn: When Tesla is destroyed, it summons Goblinstein, giving you extra value even after your building is gone.

Firecracker (Epic) – Clone Firecrackers: Every attack creates two clone Firecrackers, quickly filling the arena with explosive projectiles.

Royal Hogs (Epic) – Mini Hog Riders: Four Mini Hog Riders transform into Royal Hogs after being defeated, forcing opponents to defend two waves.

Elite Barbarians (Epic) – Giant Elite Barbarian: A massive Elite Barbarian splits into two Elite Barbarians, which later split into regular Barbarians, creating incredible value.

Skeleton Army (Rare) – Skeleton Troopers: Replaces regular Skeletons with much stronger Skeleton Troopers that are difficult to stop.

Skeleton Army (Epic) – Infinite Skeleton Army: Continuously spawns Skeletons from a permanent Graveyard effect, overwhelming almost every defense.

A Tier

These modifiers may not be quite as overwhelming as the S Tier picks, but they’re still capable of winning games if used well. They offer massive value, force difficult defenses, and can completely swing the momentum of a match.

Arrows (Rare) – Mini Fireballs: Each Arrow creates a Mini Fireball on impact, dealing massive burst damage. It can eliminate medium-health troops that normally survive Arrows and also deals heavy Crown Tower damage with good placement.

Bandit (Rare) – Chain Dash: Whenever Bandit defeats a target, she instantly dashes to the next enemy. Against Skeletons, Goblins, or other swarm troops, she can wipe out an entire push by herself.

Ronin (Rare) – Infinite Projectile Reflection: While Ronin’s parry is active, he continuously reflects incoming projectiles instead of just blocking one. It’s basically a much stronger version of the Monk’s ability and can completely shut down ranged attackers.

Tesla (Rare) – Level Reduction: Every Tesla hit reduces the target’s level by one. The longer enemies stay in range, the weaker they become, making this surprisingly powerful against tanks and high-health troops.

Zap (Rare) – Bonus Lightning Bolt: Along with the normal Zap, an extra Lightning strike hits an enemy, adding huge burst damage and making it excellent for finishing off key troops.

Zap (Epic) – Chain Zap: Every troop hit by Zap sends another Zap to nearby enemies. Against swarms, this creates a chain reaction that can clear entire pushes while dealing impressive damage.

Barbarian Barrel (Rare) – Triple Barrels: Instead of one Barrel, three Barbarian Barrels roll forward, spawning three Barbarians and covering a much larger area. It’s excellent for both offense and defense.

Royal Hogs (Common) – Explosive Hogs: Each Royal Hog explodes when defeated, dealing around 400 damage. If multiple Hogs reach the tower, the explosion damage alone can remove a huge chunk of its health.

Elite Barbarians (Rare) – Level-Up Mechanic: Every time an Elite Barbarian gets a kill, both Elite Barbarians permanently gain a level, allowing them to become stronger and stronger throughout the match. The effect even stacks up to Level 100.

Inferno Dragon (Epic) – Evil Eye Dragon: This modifier causes Inferno Dragon to burn every unit on the battlefield, including friendly troops. It can completely erase enemy pushes, but you’ll need to be careful since it can also damage your own cards. Despite the risk, its destructive potential easily earns it an A Tier spot.

B Tier

These modifiers are definitely worth using and can provide excellent value, but they don’t completely take over matches like the S or A Tier modifiers. They make already good cards even stronger without feeling impossible to counter.

Arrows (Common) – Double Arrows: Fires a second wave of Arrows, nearly doubling the damage and making it much better at clearing troops.

Bandit (Common) – Longer Dash: Greatly increases Bandit’s dash range, allowing her to reach support troops or even connect to the tower from farther away.

Dark Prince (Common) – Faster Charge: Cuts his charge time in half, making him much more threatening during both offense and defense.

Dark Prince (Rare) – Shield Refresh: Every kill restores his shield, letting him survive much longer against Skeletons, Goblins, and other swarm units.

Dark Prince (Epic) – Bat Summon: Every successful charge spawns three Bats, giving him extra support throughout the battle.

Tesla (Common) – Chain Lightning: Tesla’s attack bounces between enemies, helping clear grouped-up troops instead of targeting only one unit.

Zap (Common) – Level Reduction: Lowers enemy troop levels by three after dealing damage, weakening surviving troops for the rest of the fight.

Three Musketeers (Common) – Four Musketeers: Adds a fourth Musketeer, making split-lane pressure even stronger.

Three Musketeers (Rare) – Last Stand Buff: Whenever one Musketeer dies, the remaining Musketeers gain faster attack speed, increasing their damage output.

Barbarian Barrel (Common) – Longer Roll: Travels farther than normal, allowing it to hit more targets before spawning the Barbarian.

Elite Barbarians (Common) – Rage Spears: Throws powerful Rage-infused spears before attacking, dealing solid burst damage from a distance.

Inferno Dragon (Common) – Faster Charge: Reaches maximum beam damage much quicker, melting tanks in seconds.

Inferno Dragon (Rare) – Double Range: Doubles its attack range, making it much harder for enemies to reset or distract.

Skeleton Barrel (Common) – Bomber Rider: A Bomber rides on top of the Skeleton Barrel, attacking enemies before dropping to the ground when the barrel breaks.

Skeleton Barrel (Rare) – Giant Skeleton Barrel: A much larger Skeleton Barrel that carries significantly more pressure than the standard version.

C Tier

These modifiers have their moments, but they usually depend on specific matchups or require more effort to get consistent value. They’re fun to use but won’t dominate games as often.

Three Musketeers (Epic) – Mini Musketeers: Every kill spawns a Mini Musketeer. They can snowball if left alone, but getting enough eliminations isn’t always easy.

Firecracker (Common) – Higher Knockback Jump: Firecracker jumps farther after every shot, making her harder to catch, although it doesn’t directly increase her damage.

Firecracker (Rare) – Extra Projectile Split: Her rockets split into additional projectiles, improving splash damage against grouped troops.

Heal Spirit (Common) – Place Anywhere: Lets you deploy Heal Spirit anywhere on the arena, opening up some creative plays but not dramatically changing its strength.

Heal Spirit (Epic) – Spirit Multiplication: Successfully connecting creates several more Heal Spirits, leading to huge healing chains if everything lines up.

Royal Hogs (Rare) – Archer Riders: Each Royal Hog carries an Archer that continues fighting even after the Hog is defeated, giving extra value but still manageable to defend.

Skeleton Army (Common) – Graveyard Effect: Summons a small Graveyard alongside the Skeleton Army, making it slightly more resistant to spells.

Skeleton Barrel (Epic) – Skeleton Swarm: Creates a massive Skeleton swarm after the barrel is destroyed. It’s dangerous without splash damage but still vulnerable to spells.

D Tier

These modifiers simply don’t provide enough value compared to the rest of the Phase 1 lineup.

Heal Spirit (Rare) – Damage Aura: The healing area also deals damage, but the damage is extremely low. It can’t even eliminate many fragile support troops, making it the least impactful modifier in C.H.A.O.S Phase 1. Unless it gets buffed in the future, it’s difficult to justify picking over almost any other modifier.
