Episode 1: Show Me a Hero

Birth & Finding Yourself

The game kicks off with you, the Conspirator, emerging from a leather womb. Hit the Emerge button and select your gender. I opted for male, but the choice is yours.

The Lady in White and Gold appears, beckoning you towards her. Interact with the buttons to exit the womb successfully.

Next, you’ll be introduced to five crucial Aspects:

  • Body
  • Heart
  • Nerves
  • Voice
  • Shadow

These Aspects will influence how you handle various tasks and skill checks throughout the game. You can click the buttons above your character to learn more about each one. When you’re ready, select Get Up.

After getting up, the Lady in White and Gold reappears. Approaching her presents you with a choice that impacts your character’s journey. My choice was to:

  • Greet

As the sun rises, you must decide how to greet it:

  • Open yourself to the light (+Heart)

Next, run towards the torch and grasp it. This action will award you with the Inner Fire Trait, and the Lady in White and Gold will bestow the Home Principle, which forms the basis of your character’s personality.

If you stray from your Principles, you risk losing them, but adhering to them equips you to tackle tough skill checks.

You will then have another decision to make about where to use your Torch:

  • Light the Lighthouse

Light it up to gain a new Spiritual Backbone Principle.

Continue dialogue with the Lady in White and Gold to select your Childhood.

  • Childhood in a wealthy family

Select Spend Childhood Here to acquire the Wealthy Family Origin.

Childhood in a Wealthy Family

Your childhood memories will start surfacing, and you’ll make your first decision about your favorite yard game. I chose:

  • Building snow castles (+Body)

A tutorial explains how Conditions operate. Click on the Snowdrifts to start constructing the Fort, followed by clicking the Bucket and eventually the Snow Castle to successfully build the Fort, boosting your Body Aspect.

Next, choose which parent you were closer to during your childhood.

After this, you’ll have to choose which parent you were close to during your childhood.

  • Father

While speaking with your Father, you’ll get a chance to increase a specific Trait once per episode.

  • Find loopholes in documents (Cunning)

To showcase your newfound skills, activate Cunning to increase your Shadow Trait, then use the button above your character to succeed in the skill check.

Then you have to recall a cherished childhood memory. I selected:

  • A moment of beauty.

Gazing out at the courtyard allows you to earn the Memory: A Moment of Beauty Trait.

The Red Door and the Traum Family

Continue along with the story as you learn about a Red Door from a neighbour boy. I decided to:

  • Join his search

As you manage to find the Red Door, the neighbour boy goes through the door as it disappears. You’ll have to make another choice:

  • Try to find him

But the boy was never found.

Let the story play out, and one day the Clerk will come and tell you that you’re invited to the Traum Family Reception. The Traum Family are the patrons of the City of Brocken, and all children your age need to visit them.

You can only see the shadow of the four members of the Traum Family:

  • Grand Dame Traum
  • Commander Traum
  • Madam Traum
  • Young Traum

After their introduction, you’ll be asked to accept one gift out of four. I went with the Black Box, inside which I found the Kaleidoscope. You can also choose not to accept a gift at all by clicking on the door to the right.

With that done, your visit is over as the Traum Family bids you farewell.

The Collapse of Brocken

Agent of Strange: Arrival The Collapse of Brocken screenshot

The game skips to another day when the Sun disappeared from Brocken in the middle of the day. The disaster also hits your family hard. But you choose one of your Talents (choice) to save them from bankruptcy.

  • Diplomacy

Speak with the Clerk to negotiate with him and gain the Talent. As the city begins to adapt, you fall into madness from melancholy.

While bedridden, you get a visit from Melancholy. You have to decide how you wish to cope with it.

  • Hide from melancholy (+Shadow)

As the city around you begins to crumble, the citizens decide to group up and ask the Traum Family for help. Something happens there that nobody swears to ever speak of, but the Traum Family agreed to help. However, nobody knows what they asked for in return.

After that day, the Traum Family disappeared.

The Lady in White and Gold appears again and asks you a question: which part of yourself will you rely on most?

  • Give me the beating of your Heart.

This will further increase your Heart Aspect. You’ll get a quick snapshot of character properties gained from childhood.

Click Accept Yourself to move on.

Gaining a Face

This section focuses on character creation. Click the Uncover Your Face button to remove the mask.

Then go through the options to create your character.

You will also have to choose a first and last name for your character. Click Continue when you’re ready to get issued a Passport.

You’ll also get to choose a new Talent.

  • Get Education

As you’re entering adulthood, you must also decide your calling in the city:

  • (Nerves) Become a teacher

Finally, you have to create a personal outfit for your character by selecting the bottom and top layer.

You then get another visit from the Lady in White and Gold. This time she doesn’t give you any gift.

Eventually, the day arrives when the Traum Family returns. Your Father will present you with a question:

  • Let them just try!

The Longest Night & The Morning After

Agent of Strange: Arrival The Longest Night & The Morning After screenshot

As the story continues, the condition of the city begins to get worse. The Lady in White and Gold comes and tells you to find the strength within yourself. This marks the beginning of the longest night for the citizens of Brocken.

Masked men started appearing on the streets, breaking into people’s homes, looking for those they called Strange. They started dragging people out to the street and accusing them of ridiculous things.

You’ll get the option to decide how you behave during the longest night:

  • Take to the streets (Dignity)

This gives you a new Principle as you walk the street in protest.

The next morning, the city returned to its old ways, and the people pretended as if nothing had happened. But soon after, you get summoned by the Traum Family.

This isn’t the same pleasant Traum Family you knew from your childhood. You are now accused and put on trial.

You can go against your Principles and Ask for Mercy. But I went with

  • Save your dignity.

As punishment, the Traum Family banishes you from the city, and a giant red finger touches you before you lose your sense.

You wake up outside with a Terrible Thought that will always follow you. Your Inner Fire starts to fade as you’re asked to choose your Weakness:

  • Migraine (Heavy Stress also weakens your Nerve Aspect)

Weaknesses are flaws that make your life and skill checks tougher. They are only triggered under certain specified conditions, and you can pick up new Weaknesses.

Leaving the City

Pick up the Suitcase on the ground when you get back on your feet. You’ll stumble onto the Traum Family Gift you chose during your childhood.

  • Break the Kaleidoscope

Your Father comes in for a conversation. He apologizes for not being able to do more to protect you.

  • I’ll come back!

Once Father walks off, make your way to the top of the staircase and leave the city.

  • Leave with your head held high.

Continue forward, and soon you’ll run into the personification of Terrible Thought. You’ll get a skill check:

  • (Heart) Lean on Home

This will reduce your Stress. Click on the door up ahead to arrive at the Capital.

Arrival at the Capital

Agent of Strange: Arrival Arrival at the Capital screenshot

As you arrive at the Capital, you can go to bed straight away. But first, you can interact with the pile of bags to do a Day Labor job to earn some Crowns.

You can also check the Job Board and speak to the woman standing near it. But there’s no point. Interact with the bed to move on.

The next day, you’ll see the Sergeant and the Ringleader appear. You can decide who to side with.

  • Become a criminal
  • Join the gang

This will grant you the Fugitive Fate.

You get taken to the gang’s headquarters, where you’ll have to choose to gain a new trait:

  • Divert Suspicion

You will also go through combat training to acquire a new Talent:

  • Put a knife to the throat (+Stealth)

Finally, as the gang gets ready for a big heist, you have to choose your role:

  • Con Artist

The Big Score & Prison

The gang goes on a heist, but you, being the newbie, are kept as the lookout. As the police ambush, you’re the only one who gets caught.

They drag you to the prison, and thus begin your days in captivity. The day passes in isolation, and all you can do is hear the news on the radio.

Eventually, you’ll get to decide how you survive the prison:

  • Endure prison life (Dignity)

One day you get out, and as you sit by yourself in the apartment, you gain the Fracture: Escape to Nowhere. Fracture is another integral part of the character that brings torment, but in an emergency, can save you from defeat up to three times.

When you wake up the next day, interact with the radio tower to get news from Brocken. You will hear the news of Conspirators rising up against the Traum Family.

You can decide your reason for going back to your childhood city:

  • (Home) Take back your home.

You can also choose not to return, ending the game then and there.

The Lady in White and Gold will make an appearance in your home in the capital. Asking you questions and check in on you. Here are the choices that I went with.

  • I remember
  • To give up your home is a defeat!

She will then tell you of the Guest who will come to bring you back home.

Interact with the bed to go to sleep and end the first Episode.

Episode 2: A Guest from Nowhere

Agent of Strange: Arrival Episode 2: A Guest from Nowhere screenshot

Waiting for the Guest

The second episode begins with the Conspirator waiting impatiently in his small apartment in the capital. To make things worse, the Terrible Thought is also tormenting you. Your Stress will keep rising until you eventually break.

Your goal is to pass the time until the Guest arrives and get rid of the attack of the Terrible Thought.

  • (Body) Gather your Strength.

Passing the skill check, you manage to get yourself up from the bed. You are now free to move about in the apartment. Check the different boxes and drawers to find items that you can pick up.

Performing actions will pass Time. You’ll need to pass Time five times before the Guest arrives.

There are multiple ways to do so. Here are the things I did:

  • Check the boxes in the bedroom and get rid of the Ring
  • Check the Secret Stash in the study room to the right, and keep the Shiv.
  • Inspect the Wash Basin and wash yourself.
  • Inspect the Bathtub and take a bath
  • Interact with the clothes hanging on the mannequin in the bedroom and destroy them.

Also make sure you study the Investigation Board to unlock The Dead Man clue.

Once you do all these things, the Guest will arrive at the front door. Interact with the closet in the leftmost room to gain the Ordinary Citizen Appearance and answer the door.

The Mysterious Guest

Go through his dialogue and let him in. He’ll sit on the chair in your bedroom and ask to turn off the lights.

The light switch is on the left wall of the bedroom. Interact with the rope to turn off the light and then talk to the Guest again.

If you haven’t gotten rid of the Attack of the Terrible Thought by now, the Guest will offer to get rid of it for you. You’ll have to look into his eyes to do so. This will give you a new clue: The Guest: His Eyes.

Continue with the conversation, and he’ll tell you that you’ll have to pass a series of Tests before he can take you to the Conspirators. The first of which is to swear to obey all of Conspiracy’s Orders. This concludes the first test.

When you agree to do so, he’ll ask you to inflict a wound on yourself. If you’ve picked up the Shiv, you can use it to cut your hand. This will conclude the second test.

The third test is for you to shave your head. You can do so by heading to the bathroom and interacting with the Wash Basin.

For the final test, he wants you to strip naked and get on all fours. This is where I drew the line and refused.

You can try to accuse him of lying, which will increase your hostility, but you’ll have to pass a series of skill checks for it. Eventually, I went with Refuse to Obey Orders!

Confrontation with the Guest

The scene shifts suddenly, and you’re locked in a confrontation with the Mysterious Guest. He tells you that he left the Conspiracy, and he’ll light an incendiary bomb in his hand that will go off unless you can talk him down.

I tried to negotiate with him first. But running through all the dialogues didn’t get me anything.

What worked, however, is Admitting Defeat. Choose Surrender, and he will give you the address to Golconda Hotel where the Dead Man’s Gang will meet.

You’ll be back in your apartment. Walk to the front door and grab the Suitcase. You can then collect all your valuables and money.

The final choice before ending the Episode is whether you want to leave peacefully or burn down the apartment. I saw no point in burning down the apartment.

This is where the second episode ends.
