Village in the Shade Fish Guide: All Locations and Seasons

Fishing is one of those relaxing side activities that helps fund your farm while you wait for crops to grow. Village in the Shade is no exception, offering plenty of ponds and rivers to cast your line into when you need extra cash.

Completing the entire field guide takes more than casual casting, though, as you will need to track down specific seasons, times, and hidden spots. This breakdown covers everything you need to know to catch all fish in Village in the Shade without wasting precious daylight.

You will learn the exact locations of all 35 normal catches and the 6 elusive nocturnal species, plus the tools needed to reach locked zones. Grab some extra bait and check your calendar before heading out to the water.

Pro tip: Always keep a stash of standard bait in your inventory to boost invisible spawn rates when targeting rare aquatic catches.

Where to Catch All Fish in Village in the Shade

There are a total of 35 normal fish that the player can catch in Village in the Shade. These creatures hide across six distinct water zones throughout the map, and most only appear during specific months. Keep a close eye on the calendar so you do not waste time casting during the wrong season.

  • Crossroads
  • Village Creek
  • Waterfall
  • Quarry
  • Mountain Foot
  • Mountain Pond

Four of these zones are open right away, but the two mountain areas require progression to unlock. You will hit a roadblock trying to reach the higher altitudes until you complete a specific task.

Advance the plot until you reach Kisuke’s Request during the investigation of Rule 2 in the village. He gifts you an iron axe, which smashes the blocking boulder and opens up the Mountain Foot fishing spot.

Reaching the final high-altitude zone requires saving up a considerable amount of in-game currency. Complete Shirogi’s Request during the Rule 2 chapter to unlock permit purchases at the Hunting Lodge. You must buy these permits sequentially until you reach the second-to-last option, the Deer Hunting Permit, which grants access to the peak and the Mountain Pond.

Fish spawn rates are hidden from the player, but throwing standard bait directly into your current spot speeds up their appearance. Time of day also plays a major role in your success rate. Daytime fishing works year-round for general species, but specific targets require strict morning, noon, or evening windows.

Every single fishing spot holds an extremely rare variant known as a White fish. These special catches have abysmal drop rates unless you use dedicated White Fish Bait unlocked during the post-game. Expect these elusive entries to be the final items you check off your list, as patience is mandatory.
