If you’re trying to find all Cats in Akatori, you’re in for a bit of exploring. There are 20 Cats hidden across the different regions, and while most of them can be collected whenever you want, there is one Cat you really don’t want to miss.
The first Cat is missable because the area eventually becomes inaccessible as you progress through the story. So if you’re starting a new game and want to collect everything, grab that one as soon as you get the chance.
The good news is that the other Cats are much more forgiving. You can return to their locations later, even after defeating the final boss. Once the credits finish, you can load your save again and continue from your last checkpoint.
I’ve broken down all 20 Cats below by region, with the exact route or trick you’ll need to reach each one.
Akatori All Cat Locations guide – How to Find 20 Cats
There are 20 Cats to find in total:
- Akatori Monastery: 2 Cats
- Amber Mines: 4 Cats
- Amber Castle: 5 Cats
- Amber Forest: 4 Cats
- Amber Plant: 5 Cats
Some Cats are sitting in plain sight, while others are tucked behind breakable walls, hidden passages, or areas that require abilities you unlock later in the story.
So if you reach a Cat that seems impossible to access, don’t worry. You probably just haven’t unlocked the required ability yet.
Akatori Monastery Cat Locations
There are two Cats to find in Akatori Monastery. The first one is the important one to remember because it’s the only Cat in the entire collection that can permanently become unavailable.
Cat #1 – Gotta Take a Break
This is the Cat you should grab immediately.
At the beginning of the game, continue through the opening area until you descend into the cave and start climbing across the platforms.
Once you’re up there, instead of continuing to the right, head left.
You’ll find the Cat waiting there.
Don’t leave it for later. As you progress through the story, this particular area becomes locked off, meaning you won’t be able to come back and grab the Cat afterward.
So, honestly, if you’re reading this while you’re still near the beginning of the game, this is your reminder: get Cat #1 now.
Cat #2 – Meeting by the Lake
The second Monastery Cat is much easier.
Find the well and drop down into it.
Once you’ve landed below, look toward the right side.
The Cat will be waiting there near the lake.
There’s no complicated puzzle here, so this one is pretty hard to miss if you’re exploring the area properly.
Amber Mines Cat Locations
The Amber Mines contain four Cats, and this is where you’ll start seeing more of the hidden routes and environmental tricks used throughout Akatori.
Cat #1 – Makiwara
Make your way toward the upper section of the Amber Mines.
Once you’ve climbed high enough, keep an eye on the right side of the area.
You’ll spot the Cat there.
There’s no special ability or complicated puzzle needed here. Just make your way upward and check the right side once you’re near the top.
Cat #2 – The Great Festival
For this one, you’ll need to interact with the machinery in the room.
Look for the lever in the center of the room and activate it.
The platform will rotate, opening up the route you need to reach the Cat.
Once the platform has moved into position, follow the newly opened path and you’ll be able to reach The Great Festival.
This one can be confusing at first because the Cat looks like it’s sitting in an unreachable spot. The lever is the key.
Cat #3 – No Discounts
Head toward the location shown on the map.
Once you’re there, look for the water on the left side and drop down through it.
Continue downward until you reach the seaweed.
Go through the seaweed and then keep moving all the way to the right.
You’ll eventually reach the hidden area containing the Cat.
It’s a simple route once you know where to look, but the entrance is easy to overlook because it’s below the main path.
Cat #4 – Animal Escape
This Cat is hidden behind a secret passage.
Find the large water duct and start climbing upward through it.
While climbing, stay toward the left side.
You’ll eventually reveal a hidden passage that isn’t immediately obvious from the main route.
Go through the passage and keep following it until you reach the end.
That’s where you’ll find Animal Escape.
Amber Castle Cat Locations
Amber Castle has five Cats, making it one of the larger areas for collectibles.
A few of these require the Glider, so don’t worry if you’re exploring the castle earlier in the story and can’t reach them yet.
Cat #1 – Parable
Once you have the Glider, this one is straightforward.
Use the Glider to reach the upper part of the area.
Head toward the top and you’ll find Parable waiting there.
If you’re exploring before getting the Glider, just mark this location mentally and come back later.
Cat #2 – Conspiracy
The next Cat also requires the Glider.
Use it to reach the elevated section where the Cat is located.
Once you’re in the right area, glide across to Conspiracy and collect it.
There’s no additional puzzle here; the main challenge is simply reaching the elevated position.
Cat #3 – Old Men’s Curse
This is probably one of the easiest Cats in Amber Castle.
Travel to the marked location and look directly ahead.
The Cat is right in front of you.
Just walk over and collect Old Men’s Curse.
Sometimes the easiest collectibles are the ones you spend the most time worrying about.
Cat #4 – A Day on Duty
For this one, you’re looking for a breakable wall.
Find the wall in the marked area and use a charged attack to smash through it.
Behind the wall is a secret room.
Enter the room and you’ll find A Day on Duty waiting inside.
So if you reach this area and see a suspicious wall that looks like it doesn’t belong, give it a charged attack.
Cat #5 – Immunity
The final Cat in Amber Castle is also hidden behind a breakable wall.
Break through the wall and enter the newly opened area.
From there, keep moving all the way to the end.
You’ll find Immunity waiting there.
There’s no complicated puzzle after breaking the wall, so once you’ve found the entrance, the rest is easy.
Amber Forest Cat Locations
There are four Cats hidden around Amber Forest.
This region has some of the more interesting hidden routes, especially if you’re checking underneath platforms and looking for secret passages.
Cat #1 – Kaidan
Start by climbing toward the upper part of the area.
Keep making your way upward and you’ll eventually find Kaidan.
The Cat is positioned in the upper section, so if you don’t see it immediately, keep climbing rather than searching around the lower paths.
Cat #2 – Gossip
For Gossip, you’ll need to look somewhere players don’t always think to check.
Drop down and inspect the underside of the platform.
The Cat is hidden underneath it.
If you’re standing on the main platform and can’t see anything, don’t assume the area is empty. Drop below and check the underside.
Cat #3 – Amber Crisis
This one is also located underneath the main platform.
Drop down and look for the available path.
Once you’re underneath, simply follow the only path all the way to the end.
You’ll eventually reach Amber Crisis.
There’s no need to worry about taking a wrong turn here because the route is essentially a straight path once you’ve dropped into the correct section.
Cat #4 – Secret Weapon
This is one of the more hidden Cats in the forest.
Go to the right side of the area and drop down while using the Glider. Make sure you stay toward the right as you descend.
You’ll eventually spot an enemy that pulls you toward it with its tongue.
Don’t focus on the enemy itself. Look below it.
There’s a secret passage underneath.
Go through the passage and continue until you reach the water.
Swim upward through the water and you’ll eventually find Secret Weapon at the top.
This is definitely one where knowing the exact trick saves you a lot of wandering around.
Amber Plant Cat Locations
The final five Cats are located in Amber Plant.
This area has several hidden walls and paths, so whenever something looks slightly suspicious, it’s worth checking whether you can break through it.
Cat #1 – Escape
Look for the section where you can break the ground.
Attack the ground to reveal a hidden room underneath.
Drop into the secret area and you’ll find Escape waiting inside.
If you’re running through the area normally, this hidden room is very easy to overlook, so don’t be afraid to test the ground when something looks out of place.
Cat #2 – Civil Defense Memo
This one is hidden in the large area where you use the snowboard.
You’ll first slide through the section and climb across some ice platforms.
Eventually, you’ll return to another area where you’ll need to snowboard again.
When you reach this second section, climb toward the upper part using the platform.
Once you’re up there, use the Glider and follow the upper route.
You’ll eventually reach a false wall.
The Cat is hidden behind it.
Go through the wall and you’ll find Civil Defense Memo.
Cat #3 – Life of a Merchant
You can find this one fairly close to the previous Cat.
As you climb the next series of ice platforms, you’ll encounter a robot with a laser sight.
Continue toward the upper section of this area.
Once you’re near the top, look for an invisible wall.
Walk through it and you’ll discover the hidden area containing Life of a Merchant.
It’s one of those secrets where the game gives you almost no indication that you can actually walk through the wall, so don’t be afraid to test suspicious-looking boundaries.
Cat #4 – Inner Chaos
For Inner Chaos, you’ll need to use the wind ducts.
Follow the wind ducts upward until you reach the upper portion of the area.
Once you’re up there, move toward the upper-right section.
The Cat is waiting there.
This one is relatively simple once you have the right height, so the main thing is making sure you don’t stop exploring after reaching the upper area.
Cat #5 – The Imperial Academic Society
The final Cat in our list is found using a moving platform.
Look for the platform and stand on it.
Wait as it moves you toward the left side of the area.
Once you’ve been carried across, jump toward the upper section.
You’ll reveal a secret room.
Head inside and you’ll find The Imperial Academic Society, the twentieth and final Cat.
Once you collect it, you’ll have found every Cat in Akatori.
If you’re going for all 20 Cats, I’d recommend not trying to force every collectible the moment you see it.
Some Cats are deliberately placed behind abilities you’ll unlock later, including the Glider and other movement options. If a Cat looks completely unreachable, there’s a good chance the game simply expects you to return later.
Also, pay attention to the environment. Quite a few Cats are hidden behind things that don’t immediately scream “secret area” — breakable walls, false walls, invisible passages, platforms, water routes, and even the underside of platforms.
And most importantly, don’t forget that first Cat.
Grab Gotta Take a Break as soon as you start the game. Once that area is locked off, you won’t get another chance.
With that one exception out of the way, the rest of the 20 Cats in Akatori can be cleaned up at your own pace. Take your time exploring, check suspicious walls and platforms, and you’ll eventually have the entire Cat collection finished.
