The Mound Omen of Cthulhu Weapon Tier List (July 2026)

I’ll be honest after my first few expeditions, I stopped looking at the damage numbers and stated paying attention to how each weapon actually felt during a run. A musket that hits like a truck doesn’t help much if you’re caught reloading while a creature is charging at you. On the other hand, a simple melee weapon can save your life more often than you’d expect.

That’s really what makes The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu different. Every weapon has trade-offs. Some excel at picking off enemies before they get close, while others are reliable backups when everything goes wrong. Throw in the game’s sanity mechanics, changing weather, and limited resources, and choosing the right weapon becomes just as important as having good aim.

This tier list ranks every obtainable weapon based on overall performance, damage, reliability, versatility, value for its cost, and usefulness throughout the game.

One thing worth mentioning before we begin: Aged weapons are budget-friendly alternatives. They cost fewer Coins but deal around 9–15% less damage and wear out faster. They’re not bad weapons they’re simply temporary upgrades until you can afford the standard versions.

S Tier Weapons

These are the weapons that consistently perform well throughout the game. If you have enough Coins and meet the rank requirement, these should be your priority purchases.

Flintlock Musket

Damage: 66

If someone asked me to recommend only one firearm in the game, this would probably be it.

The Flintlock Musket delivers devastating damage while avoiding the reliability problems found on older Matchlock weapons. Every shot feels meaningful, and once you learn to reload safely, it becomes one of the strongest choices for both solo and co-op expeditions.

Why it’s S Tier

  • Massive damage
  • Reliable compared to Matchlocks
  • Great for every stage of progression
  • Worth saving Coins for

Cthulhu Flintlock Musket

Damage: 66

This weapon feels like the endgame reward for firearm users.

It delivers the same incredible stopping power while remaining dependable during difficult encounters. Against tougher enemies, few weapons can match its performance.

If you’ve unlocked it, there’s very little reason to switch back.

Swivel-Breech Flintlock

Instead of waiting through another lengthy reload, this weapon lets you fire a second barrel almost immediately.

That extra shot can finish enemies before they ever reach your team, making it incredibly valuable during chaotic fights.

Even without listed damage numbers, its unique firing mechanic easily earns an S Tier spot.

Longbow

Damage: 60

The Longbow is honestly one of the best bargains in the game.

For only 15 Coins, you’re getting excellent damage, impressive range, and complete freedom from firearm misfires. If your aim is consistent, you’ll clear enemies surprisingly efficiently.

Best For

  • Long-range combat
  • Saving Coins
  • Reliable damage
  • New and experienced players alike

A Tier Weapons

These weapons are excellent and can comfortably carry you through most expeditions.

Matchlock Arquebus

Damage: 63

The Matchlock Arquebus hits incredibly hard for something available this early.

Its biggest weakness isn’t damage it’s reliability. Matchlock firearms take longer to manage and can become frustrating under difficult conditions.

Still, if you’re Rank 1, it’s easily among your strongest options.

Cthulhu Matchlock Musket

Damage: 63

This upgraded version offers fantastic firepower while remaining available earlier than many premium weapons.

If you don’t yet have access to Flintlocks, this weapon is an outstanding substitute.

Flintlock Pistol

Damage: 64

Don’t underestimate pistols.

This one deals damage that’s surprisingly close to larger firearms while being much easier to handle during fast-paced encounters.

It’s an excellent secondary weapon and performs well in close-range emergencies.

Recurve Bow

Damage: 57

Some players simply prefer bows over firearms, and the Recurve Bow makes a strong argument why.

Its quicker draw speed allows you to stay mobile while continuously dealing damage.

Crossbow

Damage: 40

The Crossbow sacrifices speed for consistency.

It doesn’t have the highest damage output, but it’s accurate, dependable, and easy to use.

Latchet Crossbow

Damage: 40

Thanks to its lever-loading system, it reloads more smoothly than the standard Crossbow.

If you’re investing in crossbows, this is usually the better choice.

B Tier Weapons

Solid weapons that perform well during the early and middle stages of the game.

Halberd

Damage: 27.5

The Halberd combines respectable damage with impressive reach.

Keeping enemies at a safer distance often matters more than dealing a few extra points of damage.

Polehammer

Damage: 22

This isn’t the quickest melee weapon, but every swing carries plenty of impact.

Players who enjoy slower, heavier weapons will appreciate its reliability.

Conquistador Side Sword

Damage: 24.2

A dependable sword with no major weaknesses.

It doesn’t dominate any category, but it’s consistently useful throughout the early game.

Dark Tizona Sword

Damage: 24.2

Performance is almost identical to the Conquistador Side Sword.

Choose whichever appearance you prefer because both perform equally well.

Francesca Axe

Damage: 27.5

Being able to throw the axe gives it extra versatility compared to many melee weapons.

It’s fun to use and remains effective until stronger ranged options become available.

Matchlock Pistol

Damage: 60

The damage is excellent for a pistol.

Unfortunately, Matchlock mechanics slow it down enough to keep it below Flintlock firearms.

C Tier Weapons

These weapons are usable but generally become outdated fairly quickly.

Rapier

Damage: 20.9

Fast attacks help against weaker enemies, but its lower damage means longer fights.

Serpent Hilt Smallsword

Damage: 20.9

Almost identical to the Rapier.

It feels stylish, but there are simply stronger melee options available.

Machete

Damage: 22

Considering it only costs 5 Coins, it’s actually decent value.

I usually recommend buying one early instead of spending too much on your first melee weapon.

Spear

Damage: 16.5

Its long reach is useful, especially for cautious players.

Unfortunately, the low damage becomes noticeable once stronger enemies begin appearing.

D Tier Weapons

These weapons are either training equipment, heavily damaged, or currently don’t provide enough combat value.

Training Sword

Useful for learning the basics but never intended for serious combat.

Replace it as soon as possible.

Decayed Matchlock Arquebus

Heavy wear makes this firearm unreliable.

Frequent misfires alone make it difficult to recommend.

Decayed Matchlock Pistol

It suffers from the exact same issue.

Even with respectable potential damage, reliability matters much more during dangerous expeditions.

Cosmetic Daggers and Knives

The following weapons currently don’t have meaningful combat statistics available:

  • Bollock Dagger
  • Ceremonial Khanjar
  • Cthulhu Dagger
  • Ivory Knife
  • Khanjar Dagger
  • Parrying Dagger
  • Rigging Knife
  • Sailor’s Knife
  • Serpent Dagger
  • Shepherd’s Knife
  • Spike Bayonet

Since these weapons either serve cosmetic purposes or lack complete gameplay data, they can’t realistically compete with the primary combat weapons listed above.

If I were starting a fresh save today, my progression would be pretty simple. I’d grab an inexpensive Aged weapon early, move into the Matchlock Arquebus as soon as possible, then start saving every Coin for a Flintlock Musket. That upgrade alone feels like one of the biggest power spikes in the game.

Players who enjoy ranged combat without relying on firearms should absolutely consider the Longbow, while melee-focused players will get the most value out of the Halberd.

At the end of the day, almost every weapon in The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu can work in the right hands, but if you’re looking for the strongest and most reliable options, the S Tier and A Tier weapons are the ones that consistently stand above the rest.
