Getting lost is practically a rite of passage in Gothic Remake. The game gives players a huge amount of freedom from the very beginning, but it doesn’t do much hand-holding when it comes to navigation. That’s why many players start looking for a world map shortly after arriving at the Old Camp.
The good news is that a map can be obtained fairly early. The bad news is that you’ll need to spend some Ore Nuggets, negotiate for a discount, or take a more aggressive approach if you want to avoid paying full price.
Here’s how to unlock the world map in Gothic Remake.
Find Graham
The Colony’s mapmaker is Graham, an NPC located inside the Old Camp.
After entering through the northern gate, head toward the right side of the camp. Graham usually spends his time near the cooking area or inside his hut, though he occasionally wanders around the settlement.
If you don’t immediately spot him, check nearby gathering areas where camp residents tend to congregate.
Once you’ve found him, start a conversation and ask about his maps.

Graham sells the Map of the Colony, which unlocks the world map for your character.

Purchasing it normally requires a sizeable amount of Ore Nuggets, which can feel expensive during the opening hours when every piece of currency matters.

If you’d rather save some ore, there’s a cheaper option available later.
After progressing through the Old Camp questline and earning enough trust from important camp members, Diego eventually sends you on the Test of Faith quest.
When this happens, he specifically directs you toward obtaining a map before continuing your journey.
Mentioning Diego’s name to Graham unlocks a reduced price, allowing you to purchase the map for significantly less than normal.
If you’re not in a rush, waiting for this opportunity can save a useful amount of ore.

There is also a more confrontational solution.
During your conversation with Graham, you can choose dialogue options that pressure him into handing over the map without payment.
This obviously isn’t the most diplomatic approach.
While you’ll keep your ore, Graham won’t appreciate the way you’ve handled the situation.
Players who don’t care about maintaining a good relationship with the mapmaker may find this the cheapest option available.
Is the Map Worth Buying?
Before spending your hard-earned ore, it’s important to understand what the map actually does.
The world map provides a general overview of the Colony and helps you understand the layout of major regions. It can make travelling between settlements much easier, especially for players still learning the geography of the game world.
However, it isn’t packed with detailed information.
The map won’t hold your hand, reveal every location, or solve every navigation problem for you. Gothic Remake still expects players to pay attention to directions, landmarks, and conversations.
