A lot of players currently trying to unlock the Shady Bazaar in Fisch are getting stuck on the Whisper Below The Gree quest because the three required NPCs do not spawn normally like regular characters.
At first, I honestly thought my server was bugged because I spent several minutes searching Moosewood without finding anything. The confusing part is that only one of these special NPCs can appear at a time during nighttime, which means players will never see all three standing around together.
The three NPCs needed for the investigation are:
- Diver
- Watchman
- Lantern Figure
Once you understand where each one can spawn and how the nighttime system works, the quest becomes much easier to finish.
Nighttime Is Required For All NPC Spawns
Before searching for any of the NPCs, players should make sure it is nighttime on Moosewood.
This is extremely important because the Diver, Watchman, and Lantern Figure only appear during nighttime cycles connected to the Shady Bazaar event progression.
Honestly, using a Sundial Totem makes the process far less annoying because waiting naturally for night every single time takes forever.
The moment nighttime begins, start checking the main NPC locations around Moosewood carefully.
Diver Spawn Location Near The Pond
The Diver is usually the first NPC many players struggle to find.
This character spawns near the pond area on Moosewood. The NPC normally appears somewhere around the water section, so players should walk around the pond carefully instead of quickly running past the area.
The first time I found the Diver, the NPC honestly blended into the dark environment more than expected, especially during rainy weather.
If the Diver is not appearing immediately, that does not necessarily mean you are in the wrong location. Since only one special NPC can exist at a time, another character may currently be active somewhere else on the island instead.
I recommend checking the pond slowly during nighttime before moving to the next location.
Watchman Spawn Location Behind Angler
The Watchman appears in a completely different section of Moosewood.
To find this NPC, players need to head behind the Angler NPC near the main fishing area and then move uphill toward the elevated section behind him.
The Watchman usually spawns somewhere around the hill area overlooking Moosewood.
This was honestly the NPC that took me the longest to locate because many players search around the lighthouse repeatedly without realizing the Watchman appears farther uphill instead.
Once nighttime starts, continue checking behind Angler and the nearby hill paths carefully.
If the Watchman is active on your server, he should eventually appear there.
Lantern Figure Spawn Location Near The Lighthouse
The Lantern Figure is located near the lighthouse section of Moosewood.
Players should search around the path leading toward the lighthouse itself because the NPC usually appears standing close to that route.
Compared to the other NPCs, the Lantern Figure honestly feels the easiest to spot because the lighthouse area is more open and easier to search.
This NPC is also important because interacting with the Lantern Figure eventually gives players the Tarnished Lantern item tied directly to the Shady Bazaar progression.
If the figure is not standing near the lighthouse during nighttime, another NPC is probably active somewhere else instead.
Only One NPC Can Exist At A Time
The most important thing players need to understand is that only one special NPC can spawn at a time on the server.
That means:
- You will never see all three together
- One NPC replaces another
- Some nights may not have the NPC you currently need
This is the main reason so many players think the questline is broken.
When I first searched Moosewood, I kept checking the same area repeatedly expecting every NPC to appear permanently, but the game rotates them individually instead.
Once I realized only one could spawn at a time, the entire quest suddenly made much more sense.
Sundial Totems Make The Quest Much Faster
If players want to finish the questline quickly, Sundial Totems help massively.
Instead of waiting through full daytime cycles, players can simply skip forward into nighttime repeatedly until different NPCs appear.
This honestly saves a ridiculous amount of time because the quest otherwise becomes very slow if you rely entirely on natural day and night progression.
Most players currently rushing the Shady Bazaar update are using Sundials specifically for this reason.
Best Rotation Route Around Moosewood
After testing the quest myself, the fastest method is honestly rotating between all three spawn areas continuously during nighttime.
The route I used was:
- Check pond area for Diver
- Run behind Angler toward the hill for Watchman
- Check lighthouse path for Lantern Figure
- Repeat after night resets
This route works well because the three locations are fairly close together, allowing players to quickly confirm whether a specific NPC is currently active.
Eventually all three characters should appear naturally through the nighttime cycles.
Tarnished Lantern Progression
The Lantern Figure interaction is especially important because this NPC provides the Tarnished Lantern item.
The lantern is tied directly to later stages of the Shady Bazaar unlock sequence and becomes important during the lighthouse dialogue progression afterward.
Even though the item feels confusing initially, players should absolutely keep it because the questline expects it later.
Common Problems Players Are Having
Several things are currently confusing players during this quest.
NPCs Not Spawning
Usually this simply means another NPC is currently active instead.
Searching During Daytime
The special NPCs only appear during nighttime progression events.
Server Confusion
Sometimes players believe their server bugged out, but the NPC rotation system is simply working slowly.
Missing Spawn Locations
Many players search only one area repeatedly instead of rotating between all three locations.
The Whisper Below The Gree quest honestly becomes much easier once players understand how the NPC rotation system actually works.
The biggest mistake most people make is expecting all three characters to stand around permanently at the same time. Since only one NPC appears per nighttime cycle, the quest feels confusing initially until players realize they need to rotate between locations repeatedly.
After figuring out the spawn system myself, the fastest strategy ended up being constantly moving between the pond, the hill behind Angler, and the lighthouse during nighttime while forcing new night cycles with Sundial Totems.
Once players start doing that consistently, finding the Diver, Watchman, and Lantern Figure becomes much less frustrating overall.
