When you finish Torchlight Infinite’s campaign and step into the Overrealm, the game truly begins. However, many new players end up feeling overwhelmed by the sudden shift in systems — crafting, energy, Void Chart, and gear scaling. This guide breaks everything down step-by-step, in a natural and easy-to-follow format that will help you transition smoothly from campaign play to endgame optimization.

Torchlight Infinite BEGINNER GUIDE (Overrealm S 10 TIPS)

Once you finish the main story, you’ll be directed to talk to a few key NPCs — first to complete the quest line, then to unlock the Netherrealm system. From here, you’ll begin receiving progressive goals like “defeat Glacial Abyss boss” or “clear X region.” These serve as your path into the true endgame content.

But before you rush into high-tier maps, there are some foundational systems to understand — particularly Energy, Gear Tiers, and Crafting.

The Energy System

During the campaign, you likely never paid attention to Energy. But in endgame, it becomes one of the most critical stats.

Energy on Gear: Post-campaign gear starts rolling with Energy values. Higher item level = higher Energy capacity.

One-handed weapons, hats, and boots can reach 61 max Energy.

Chest armor can reach 122 max Energy.

Why Energy Matters: It fuels your Skill Slots and Auras. The more Energy your gear provides, the more supports and auras you can run.

You only gain about 104 Energy from character levels. The rest must come from gear, so always prioritize items with good Energy rolls.

A practical tip early on is to use Restrained support gems to reduce mana reservation, letting you squeeze in extra auras without compromising your main skill.

Gear Crafting

A huge mistake new players make is skipping or misunderstanding crafting. Torchlight Infinite’s crafting system has multiple tiers — and progressing efficiently through them makes a massive difference.

Crafting Tiers Explained:

Tier 4 Mods (Item Level 68+) – The first major power bump. About 25–50% more power than campaign items.

Tier 3 Mods (Item Level 76+) – Useful but not mandatory.

Tier 2 Mods (Item Level 82+) – The real sweet spot for early endgame. Full Tier 2 gear will skyrocket your performance.

Tier 1 Mods (Highest tier) – Extremely expensive, often requiring Flame Elementium and having very low success chances.

Crafting Materials and Costs:

Low-tier gear uses Fine Embers + Flame Sand — cheap, ideal for early upgrades.

Higher tiers introduce Precious Embers, which are much more expensive.

Advanced Affixes cost triple the price, so look for gear bases that already include them.

Golden Rule:
Don’t jump straight from campaign gear to Tier 1 crafted gear. Progress through T4 → T3 → T2 gradually. It’s cheaper, safer, and yields better overall upgrades.

Flame Elementium and When It Drops

Flame Elementium is the game’s primary currency — used for crafting, trading, and high-end upgrades.

It starts dropping at Time Mark 5, though in very low quantities.

Time Mark 7+ is where it becomes consistent, especially while clearing all four regions before unlocking the Realm Lord.

Save your early Elementium for high-impact upgrades like your weapon or unique crafting attempts.

The Void Chart

Once you access the Void Chart, it’s easy to misallocate points early. Here’s what you should actually focus on:

Avoid Legendary Gear Nodes – These are not efficient early on.

Invest in Commodity Nodes – Boosts crafting materials like Flame Sand and Embers.

Grab Netherrealm Resonance – Adds juice to your maps without overspending.

Treasure Chest Nodes – Chance for valuable loot like Flame Elementium and legendaries.

These early nodes ensure smoother farming and consistent resource flow without wasting precious points.

Upgrades

Don’t hyperfocus on expensive endgame gear right away. Many players check a build guide, see a 200 FE item, and think they can’t progress — but that’s the wrong mindset.

Instead:

Upgrade your Hero Memories early — free stats and scaling.

Scrap and re-level memories freely (you get all spent resources back).

Slot in Hero Slates that fit your build; even common ones can give great bonuses.

Aim to push your gear to Tier 2 before buying anything major.

Over time, you can start targeting Tier 1 crafts for your weapon and key slots, but not before your overall build is stable.

7. Testing Build Damage Accurately

To see how much your build actually improves:

Visit Sydney in the hub area.

Use the Training Dummy (Invincible No.2, Level 85).

Hit it while tracking your damage over time rather than relying on tooltip DPS (which is often inaccurate).

This gives you a much clearer sense of whether your new weapon or skill setup is genuinely stronger.

Checking Top Builds

You can study high-level builds to guide your progression:

  • Go to Hero Rankings to view top players.
  • Sort by Character Class, Skill, or even Boss Conquest rankings.
  • Compare gear, affixes, and skill setups directly from player profiles.

This is one of the best learning tools in Torchlight Infinite for seeing what’s viable at the top level.

Loot Filters

Loot filters are essential to keep your screen clean, but using them too early can cause you to miss upgrades.

  • Early Game Filter: Best for new players. Hides only junk drops.
  • Midgame Filter: Use once you’re in full Tier 2 gear and want to start filtering for Tier 1 items.
  • Late Game Filter: Only for experienced players farming high-level content.

If you’re playing Bing this season, try the custom Dawn’s Bing Leveling Filter, which hides all irrelevant weapons and focuses on staff drops — perfect for fast leveling.

Torchlight Infinite’s Overrealm can be intimidating at first, but understanding the game’s systems — especially Energy, crafting tiers, and Void Chart allocation — turns the grind into a rewarding experience. Focus on gradual progression, consistent upgrades, and learning from top builds rather than chasing high-end gear immediately.
