Subnautica 2 Necrolei Cyst Location Guide – Strong Acid

If you’ve reached the point in Subnautica 2 where recipes suddenly start asking for Strong Acid, chances are you’ve already spent way too long swimming around wondering where the Necrolei Cyst actually spawns. I did the same thing at first because the game barely points you in the right direction, and the biome itself is easy to miss if you drift even slightly off course.

The good news is that the location is actually pretty straightforward once you know what you’re looking for. The bad news? The area has a bunch of aggressive creatures hanging around, so going in unprepared can turn into a panic swim real fast.

Here’s exactly where to find Necrolei Cyst and how to safely farm it for Strong Acid crafting.

Subnautica 2 Necrolei Cyst Location Guide – Get Strong Acid

Starting from your Lifepod, head slightly west of north and keep swimming until you’re roughly 280 meters away from the starting area. You’re looking for a depth of around 40 meters, so thankfully this isn’t one of those terrifying deep-ocean expeditions.

On the way there, you’ll eventually come across a wreck site. That’s your main landmark.

Once you pass the wreck, dive a little deeper and look around the strange plant-covered area nearby. The Necrolei Cyst grows attached to odd organic-looking formations that stand out pretty clearly once you know what they look like.

They almost look like pale bulbous growths attached to the environment.

You’ll need to harvest them manually using the Multi-Tool, so make sure you bring it before heading out.

Best Equipment to Bring Before Farming Necrolei Cyst

You can rush over there with basic gear, but honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it. The trip becomes way easier with a few upgrades.

Here’s what helped the most:

  • Multi-Tool
  • Speed Fins
  • Extra Oxygen Tank
  • Air Bladder
  • Flares
  • Wave Maker if you already have one

The biggest issue in this area isn’t the depth. It’s the creatures roaming around.

Watch Out for Mongrel Nibblers

The biome is full of Mongrel Nibblers, and these things love attacking in groups. Usually you’ll run into two or three at once, and while they aren’t massive predators, they become annoying fast when you’re trying to mine resources underwater.

You’ll often hear them before you see them because they make these weird screeching noises nearby.

Flares actually help a lot here. I ignored them on my first trip and immediately regretted it after getting chased around while low on oxygen. Tossing a flare gives you enough breathing room to gather materials without constantly turning around every two seconds.

How to Harvest Necrolei Cyst

Once you spot the growths, use the Multi-Tool to collect them. There are usually several clustered around the same plant-heavy section, so grab as many as you can while you’re there.

The resource does seem somewhat scattered around the biome, but the wreck area is currently the most reliable farming spot players have found during Early Access.

Since the game is still evolving, more locations may get added later.

How to Craft Strong Acid

After collecting Necrolei Cyst, you can use it to craft Strong Acid, which becomes important for several mid-game crafting recipes.

Because the resource area is a bit dangerous, it’s honestly worth stocking up the first time you visit instead of making multiple trips later.

Trust me, future-you will appreciate not having to swim back through the Nibbler zone again.
