If you’re planning to start Sorcerer Ascent, it’s important to understand early that this isn’t a mindless grinding game. Sorcerer Ascent is built as a story-driven Jujutsu Kaisen RPG, and most of the important systems unlock naturally through progression rather than random farming. This guide breaks down everything a beginner actually needs to know before putting serious hours into the game.
Main Menu Basics and Ability Rolls
Before entering the world, you’ll spend most of your time in three menus: Play, Customization, and Abilities. Customization is purely cosmetic, but the Abilities menu is where real decisions happen. This is where you roll for cursed techniques and clans using ability points.
Rolling costs 100 ability points per spin, and you can choose whether to roll for a cursed technique or a clan. Cursed techniques define your playstyle and skills, while clans act as passive buffs. You don’t need a clan to use a cursed technique, but certain clans increase the chances of rolling specific techniques. There is no pity system, so rerolling is fully RNG-based.
This menu is also where you redeem codes, which are usually your earliest source of extra ability points.
Controls and Combat Fundamentals
Sorcerer Ascent has more mechanical depth than it first appears. Basic punches are done with left-click, heavy attacks use R, and blocking is bound to F. Pressing F right before being hit triggers a perfect block, which can save you in tougher fights.
Movement is just as important. Q is your dash, and combining Q with Control lets you slide. Sliding into an enemy and attacking creates openings that prevent clashes. Jumping while attacking launches air combos, which are extremely useful for crowd control.
Cursed energy is activated by holding C, but you won’t have access to it immediately. The game assigns you the cursed energy mission automatically once you reach the required progression point.
Story Progression and Leveling Fast
The fastest way to level up is simply following the main questline. The game clearly marks objectives and destinations, making it difficult to get lost. Grinding mobs early is inefficient and not recommended.
When you first spawn, you’ll progress through the starter area and then be sent to locations like the Ruined Village. The first time, you’ll likely need to walk there manually. After that, movement becomes much easier once teleportation scrolls are unlocked.
Teleportation Scrolls and Travel
Teleportation scrolls are purchased from specific shops marked with a scroll icon. These scrolls allow instant travel between villages and do not have strict level requirements. Instead, they require energy shards.
Energy shards drop frequently from NPCs and bosses, so teleportation becomes affordable very quickly. Once unlocked, these scrolls dramatically speed up questing and farming.
Cursed Techniques, Scrolls, and Boss Drops
Pressing M opens the main progression menu. The cursed technique tab shows your innate technique, mastery progress, and additional skills. Extra techniques are obtained through scrolls, which drop from bosses across the world, including dungeon bosses, raid enemies, and college mission encounters.
Once you obtain a scroll, open your inventory, click the scroll, and learn it. The ability can then be equipped in your cursed technique menu as long as you meet its stat requirements. Mastery progression unlocks stronger abilities over time, so consistently using your technique matters.
Inventory, Quest Journal, and Stats
The inventory works exactly as expected, holding gear, scrolls, and consumables. The quest journal tracks all active objectives, which is especially useful later when multiple storylines overlap.
Stats control how effectively you can use techniques. Some abilities require minimum strength or cursed energy values. Early mistakes aren’t permanent, as stat reset items exist, but it’s still smart to read requirements before spending points.
Lucky Boxes, Achievements, and Soul Progression
One of the most overlooked menus is the achievement section. Many achievements reward lucky boxes, which are some of the most valuable items in the game. Lucky boxes can contain ability points, energy shards, stat reset items, XP boosts, and more.
Higher-tier lucky boxes offer better rewards, and checking this menu regularly can quietly accelerate progression without extra grinding.
Weapons, Gear, and Runes
Weapons currently only drop from bosses and cannot be forged. The swordsmith NPC is used to attach runes to gear, but there’s an important requirement. Your gear must be S-rank or higher before runes can be attached.
S-rank gear can drop directly from higher-level bosses, or you can upgrade gear potential through a specific NPC using shards. While the shard source isn’t clearly explained, they are believed to drop from bosses, dungeons, raids, and lucky boxes.
Runes add significant bonuses and become increasingly important as content difficulty rises.
Endgame Content and Activities
Beyond the main story, Sorcerer Ascent includes dungeons, cursed dungeons, raids, college missions, world events, and exchange events. Many advanced systems, including stronger techniques and upgrades, are tied to these activities.
Some quests, especially in areas like Ruined Village, include poorly marked objectives. One notable example is a lost NPC quest that requires careful exploration rather than following markers. These moments can be frustrating, but they’re part of the game’s design.
