The Silver Pines Room 3 puzzle revolves around a locked door and unsettling cries from behind it. Located in the Crimson Bear Motel’s Poolside area, you’ll need the safe code 6671 and the Motel Room Key, which can be found at the lighthouse in the Outskirts. Your journey for the key starts with obtaining the Sledgehammer uniquely positioned at Church Hill.
Many players often rush through their initial motel visit without realizing that they could learn the safe combination then and there. However, they must acquire the Sledgehammer to break through the lighthouse wall and actually collect the key. It’s a classic case of not seeing the forest for the trees; missing these little details can lead to frustration later.
Before diving into these details, ensure you’re equipped with the right tools, especially the Sledgehammer, as it opens up crucial paths and unlocks the Motel Room Key and other opportunities you will encounter shortly.
Room 3 is adjacent to the pool at the Crimson Bear Motel. To access this area, grab the Poolside Key from the powered shooting gallery found within the Game Room. Remember, the door to Room 3 is locked, and a chilling cry can be heard from inside, but knocking will not yield a reply.
You can make the necessary call from the nearby payphone to contact the occupant without needing to enter Room 3 itself. This strategy can save time, as the early stage of the motel doesn’t require you to solve everything immediately. I suggest placing this phone call while you’re in the vicinity and leaving the door for a later return, as there are plenty of intriguing doors to discover throughout Silver Pines.
The Motel Room Key lies hidden within the lighthouse located south of the Outskirts ferry landing. To get it, you’ll need to wield the Sledgehammer to break through the wall of the lighthouse.
This key is distinct from the Grizzly Suite Keycard that you use during your initial motel visit, so keep that in mind when planning your route.
You can find the Sledgehammer propped against the well at Church Hill’s cemetery, but first, you need to unlock the cemetery gate using the Cemetery Key. The key itself is located inside a coffin in the Funeral Home. Follow the upstairs route in the Funeral Home until you can drop through an opening in the floor. In the left room, search the coffin to retrieve the Cemetery Key.
Once you have the necessary key in hand, return to the cemetery gate and unlock it. The Sledgehammer will be waiting beside the well, ready for you to continue your quest.
Now that you have the Sledgehammer, head back to the Outskirts via ferry. If you notice that the Downtown ferry is out of service, you’ll need to repair its controls using the 20A fuse found at the nearby Ticket Booth. Fixing the controls will allow you to access the original island and return to the motel. Make your way to the lighthouse located just south of the ferry landing. Use the Sledgehammer to break through the wall, and then climb the ladder to retrieve the Motel Room Key from inside. With the key collected, you can now head back to the Crimson Bear Motel’s Poolside area and unlock Room 3.
To unlock the safe inside Room 3, you need to input the code 6671 on its keypad. This combination opens the safe, revealing a Star that fits into the Locked Ring Box. Keep in mind that the combination strictly operates the safe—it won’t unlock the door itself, which requires the Motel Room Key.
While you’re in Room 3, don’t forget to check the wardrobe on the left side for a Cassette Tape, which you can later use on the answering machine situated to the right of the safe.
The Star acquired from Room 3’s safe is one of five required to open the Locked Ring Box. You’ll find this box positioned on the bathroom sink of the starting diner.
When all five Stars are gathered and fitted into the Locked Ring Box, it will open, revealing a Gold Ring associated with the Rest ending. Securing the Room 3 Star is just one piece of a larger puzzle, so gather the rest for full completion.
You don’t need to enter Room 3 to finish the early motel section. I’d make the phone call while you’re here, then leave the locked door for your return trip. There’s no shortage of other doors in Silver Pines demanding your attention!
How to Get the Room 3 Key in Silver Pines
The Motel Room Key is found through the lighthouse south of the Outskirts ferry landing. You need the Sledgehammer to break through the lighthouse wall before you can collect it.
This is a separate item from the Grizzly Suite Keycard used during your first motel visit.
Find the Sledgehammer at Church Hill
The Sledgehammer leans against the well on the left side of the cemetery at Church Hill.
The cemetery gate requires the Cemetery Key, found inside a coffin in the Funeral Home. Follow the upstairs route through the Funeral Home and drop through the opening in the floor. Search the coffin in the room on the left to collect the key.
Return to the cemetery gate and unlock it. Once inside, look beside the well for the Sledgehammer.
Collect the Motel Room Key at the Lighthouse
With the Sledgehammer in your inventory, take the ferry back to the Outskirts.
If the Downtown ferry is still out of service, repair its controls using the 20A fuse from the nearby Ticket Booth. Restoring the ferry lets you return to the original island and the motel.
Head to the lighthouse south of the ferry landing. Break through the lighthouse wall with the Sledgehammer, then enter the opening. Climb the ladder to reach the Motel Room Key.
Return to the Crimson Bear Motel’s Poolside area and use the key to open Room 3.
Silver Pines Room 3 Safe Code and Solution
Enter 6671 on the safe’s keypad inside Room 3. The safe opens to reveal a Star, which belongs in the Locked Ring Box. The number operates the safe inside the room. The entrance itself requires the Motel Room Key, so trying the combination won’t help you get through the door.
While you’re inside, check the wardrobe on the left for a Cassette Tape. You can use it on the answering machine to the right.
How to Call Room 3 and Find the Code
The clue for Room 3’s telephone number comes from the Welcome Booklet in the Grizzly Suite.
Collect the Grizzly Suite Keycard from the hanging clothing in the Changing Room, then use it to enter the upstairs suite. A creature breaks through a door inside, opening the way to a smaller room containing the Welcome Booklet and Pool Net.
The booklet’s second page explains the dialing instructions: enter 5888 followed by the room number. For Room 3, the full telephone number is 58883.
Return to the poolside payphone and pay for a call to 58883. The woman who answers gives you 6671.
You can use that combination immediately on the weapon locker in the Porcelain Bear Gift Shop to collect the W-500 Shotgun and ammunition. The same number later opens Room 3’s safe.
If combat is holding you up after the motel, our Silver Pines boss guide covers the encounters ahead.
What Is the Room 3 Star Used For?
The Room 3 Star is one of five Stars needed to open the Locked Ring Box. You can find that box on the bathroom sink in the starting diner.
Once all five Stars are fitted into the box, it opens to reveal a Gold Ring connected to the Rest ending. Collecting the Room 3 Star completes one part of that larger puzzle. The ending route also requires a second ring and further steps, so opening this safe alone won’t trigger it.
What to Do if the Room 3 Key Is Missing
If you reach the lighthouse and can’t find the Motel Room Key, check whether you’ve completed the phone conversation with Room 3’s occupant.
If you skipped it, return to the motel payphone and dial 58883. Speak to the woman, then check the lighthouse key location again.
This is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix. The exact condition controlling the key’s appearance has not been confirmed, and there’s no confirmed requirement to make the call during your first motel visit. I’d check the conversation before assuming the save is broken. Missing the early phone call alone isn’t a confirmed reason to restart your playthrough.
