Before getting into rankings, there’s one correction worth making immediately: Sephiria has six weapons, not eight. If you’ve come across older guides mentioning Tome as a weapon or listing Fists, Spears, Scythes, and Bows, those lists don’t match the actual game. The six real weapon types in Sephiria 1.0 are Sword & Shield, Greatsword, Dagger, Katana, Crossbow, and Staff.
Each weapon has its own upgrade lines, with 200+ weapon upgrades available in 1.0, so simply picking an S-tier weapon isn’t the whole story. Your Artifacts, Tablets, and elemental setup still play a huge role in how strong that weapon eventually becomes.
This tier list looks at the six weapons after the 1.0 balance patch, including the Ice and Storm adjustments, improvements to Fire and Corrosion, and the new endgame upgrade lines.
Sephiria 1.0 Tier List – Best Weapons and Relics Ranking
Here’s a quick look at the actual weapon roster before we rank them.
| Weapon | Playstyle | Difficulty | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sword & Shield | Balanced melee | Easy | Beginners and consistent clears |
| Greatsword | Heavy melee | Medium | Raw damage and stagger chains |
| Dagger | Fast melee | Hard | Burst, crit builds and mobility |
| Katana | Mid-range melee | Medium | Combo flow and counterplay |
| Crossbow | Ranged | Easy–Medium | Safe poke and single-target damage |
| Staff | Ranged magic | Medium | AoE and elemental synergy |
There isn’t really a weapon here that you can’t make work. The bigger difference is how much effort and build support each one needs before it starts performing at its best.
Sephiria Weapons Tier List
| Tier | Weapon | Why It’s Ranked Here |
|---|---|---|
| S | Staff | Excellent elemental synergy and one of the highest ceilings with the right Tablets |
| S | Sword & Shield | Extremely consistent with balanced stats and very few bad matchups |
| A | Crossbow | Strong sustained ranged DPS and one of the safest Hard Mode options |
| A | Greatsword | Heavy damage and stagger chains make it especially effective against bosses |
| B | Katana | Strong combo potential but more dependent on player execution |
| B | Dagger | High burst ceiling, but less consistent and more dependent on the right supporting setup |
S Tier – Staff
Staff is the elemental powerhouse of Sephiria 1.0.
The Ice and Storm setups that were so dominant during the Early Access era still work here, although the balance patch means they aren’t quite the automatic answer they once were.
What keeps Staff at S tier is how well it works with elemental setups.
The 1.0 update also introduced the Firelighter and Solis Missio lines, giving Fire builds a legitimate route instead of forcing everyone toward the same Ice/Storm setup.
With the right Tablets supporting your element, Staff has one of the highest build ceilings among all six weapons.
It’s particularly good when you want AoE and elemental coverage rather than focusing purely on single-target physical damage.
S Tier – Sword & Shield
If Staff is here because of its ceiling, Sword & Shield earns S tier because of consistency.
This is the weapon I’d point toward if someone simply asked, “What should I start with?”
Its balanced stats and new +4 lines make it a dependable choice without forcing you into one specific playstyle. More importantly, it doesn’t really have an obvious terrible matchup.
That’s why Sword & Shield remains such a comfortable recommendation for new players.
You can learn Sephiria’s combat, experiment with different upgrades, and progress without needing a highly specialized setup from the beginning.
A Tier – Crossbow
Crossbow is one of the safest weapons in Sephiria 1.0, especially once you start getting into harder content.
Its +4 upgrade line improved its endgame potential and gives it strong sustained DPS while letting you maintain distance from enemies.
That safety becomes particularly valuable in Hard Mode, where positioning and avoiding unnecessary damage become much more important.
Crossbow also doesn’t require you to stay directly on top of a boss to maintain damage.
If you prefer playing carefully and consistently rather than constantly looking for melee openings, Crossbow is an excellent option.
A Tier – Greatsword
Greatsword is for players who want heavy hits, raw damage, and stagger.
The 1.0 version benefits from standout options such as Thor Greatsword S3G and Red Snake Crusher, helping push the weapon into A tier.
Its biggest strength, though, is what stagger can do during boss fights.
Rather than simply dealing more damage, Greatsword stagger chains can interrupt the normal flow of an encounter and let you punish boss openings much more aggressively.
That makes Greatsword particularly appealing for boss rushing and Chapter 6 encounters.
It isn’t quite as universally comfortable as Sword & Shield, but when you understand your attack windows, it becomes extremely effective.
B Tier – Katana
Katana isn’t weak, but it asks more from the player.
Its strength comes from combo flow and counterplay, meaning your own execution has a bigger impact on how good the weapon feels.
The 1.0 balance patch also didn’t change its core items as heavily as some of the other weapons.
That leaves Katana in B tier for this list.
Players who really understand its combos can still get strong results from it, but it isn’t as immediately reliable as Sword & Shield or as safe as Crossbow.
B Tier – Dagger
Dagger has a similar problem, although for different reasons.
Its fast attacks, mobility, crit potential, and burst damage give it a high ceiling, and the new +4 line gives Dagger a proper endgame upgrade route.
The issue is consistency.
Dagger burst builds can depend heavily on supporting Relics and other build pieces affected by the balance changes. When everything comes together, the weapon can perform extremely well.
When it doesn’t, the difference is noticeable.
That’s why Dagger sits in B rather than A or S tier: high potential, but a less reliable floor.
What Changed in the Sephiria 1.0 Balance Patch?
The 1.0 patch wasn’t simply about making individual weapons stronger or weaker. Several elemental families and weapon lines were adjusted.
| Item / Weapon Line | 1.0 Change | Meta Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Glacial Blade, Eternal Winter, Frozen Egg | Ice family rebalanced | Ice remains strong but isn’t a free win anymore |
| Thor Greatsword S3G, Red Snake Crusher | New or updated Greatsword options | Helped push Greatsword into A tier |
| Firelighter, Solis Missio | Fire lines strengthened | Fire is now a viable alternative |
| Dagger +4 | New upgrade line | Gives Dagger a proper endgame route |
| Crossbow +4 | New upgrade line | Improves sustained endgame DPS |
| Staff +4 | New upgrade line | Strengthens Staff’s endgame progression |
The important takeaway is that Ice and Storm aren’t your only real choices anymore.
That was one of the problems during the Early Access period: only a small number of builds felt genuinely strong.
With 1.0, Fire and Corrosion have more competitive options, while Ice and Storm remain powerful without completely defining what you have to play.
Your Tablets Matter More Than the Tier List
This is something I’d keep in mind before switching weapons just because one happens to sit higher on this list.
Artifact and Tablet support can matter more than the weapon ranking itself.
For example, forcing yourself into an S-tier elemental weapon without the Tablets needed to support that element isn’t necessarily better than running an A-tier weapon that perfectly matches what you’ve already unlocked.
Look at your existing setup first.
If your Tablets strongly support a particular element or playstyle, building around that synergy can make more sense than blindly following the tier rankings.
Best Starting Weapons in Sephiria 1.0
Different situations favor different weapons, so there’s no single recommendation for everyone.
| Situation | Best Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First-Time Player | Sword & Shield | Forgiving, consistent and useful across its upgrade lines |
| Co-op | Staff | AoE and elemental coverage benefit the party |
| Hard Mode | Crossbow | Safe ranged positioning helps against tougher encounters |
| Boss Rushing | Greatsword | Stagger chains can shut down boss patterns |
For a completely new player, I’d start with Sword & Shield.
It’s the easiest way to learn the game without your weapon choice adding unnecessary difficulty.
Once you’re comfortable with Sephiria’s combat and understand how Tablets, elements, and upgrades fit together, experimenting with Staff, Greatsword, Crossbow, Katana, or Dagger becomes much easier.
What Is the Best Weapon in Sephiria 1.0?
For overall consistency, Sword & Shield is one of the safest recommendations.
For maximum elemental build potential, Staff takes the top spot.
That distinction is important.
Staff can reach an extremely high ceiling when you’ve got the correct elemental and Tablet support. Sword & Shield asks less from your build and remains useful across far more situations.
So if you’re asking which weapon is easiest to recommend to almost anyone, I’d go with Sword & Shield.
If you’re asking which has the most exciting elemental ceiling with the right setup, Staff is the answer.
Is Ice Still the Best Element?
Ice and Storm remain strong in Sephiria 1.0, but the balance patch reduced their dominance.
The Ice family, including Glacial Blade, Eternal Winter, and Frozen Egg, was rebalanced. At the same time, Fire received stronger options through lines such as Firelighter and Solis Missio.
That means the old Early Access idea that you basically had to build around Ice/Storm no longer tells the full story.
Fire and Corrosion now have competitive options as well.
What’s the Best Weapon for the Final Boss?
For Chapter 6’s final boss, the two standout choices are Greatsword and Crossbow.
Greatsword gives you stagger chains that can punish openings between the boss’s attack patterns.
Crossbow takes the opposite approach and lets you maintain safer ranged damage while concentrating on blocking and dodging the boss’s bullet-hell attacks.
Which one is better mostly comes down to whether you prefer aggressive stagger or safe positioning.
How Many Weapons Are in Sephiria?
There are six weapons in Sephiria 1.0:
Sword & Shield, Greatsword, Dagger, Katana, Crossbow, and Staff.
There isn’t a seventh or eighth weapon in the current roster. Older claims mentioning Tome or completely different weapon lists don’t match the actual game.
Sephiria 1.0 Weapon Tier List – Final Ranking
To keep things simple, here’s the ranking one more time:
S Tier: Staff, Sword & Shield
A Tier: Crossbow, Greatsword
B Tier: Katana, Dagger
But I wouldn’t treat those letters as the final word on what you should play.
Sephiria’s 1.0 balance changes have made more builds viable, and your weapon upgrades, elemental choice, Artifacts, and Tablet support can matter just as much as the base weapon itself.
If you’ve already got a strong setup supporting one weapon, don’t throw it away just because another weapon sits one tier higher. The best weapon is ultimately the one you can build properly and actually use well.
