Earning every achievement in Rest Area Simulator is not too difficult, but a few of them can definitely become confusing if you do not understand how some systems work. Most achievements unlock naturally while running your gas station, upgrading businesses, hiring workers, and leveling up. However, there are also a couple that require very specific actions, especially the bankruptcy achievement.
This guide covers every achievement category along with some beginner tips that make progression much easier during your first playthrough.
Rest Area Simulator Achievement Guide and Beginner Tips
Inside Information
This is usually the first achievement players unlock during the tutorial.
Near the Gas Mart, you can find a nervous woman standing toward the park area. Pay her $100 and she will warn you about the inspector’s upcoming visit.
If you skipped her during the tutorial, you can still return and talk to her later.
Risky Business
This achievement is tied to the game’s illegal overcharging system called “Illicit Profit.”
To unlock it, you need to overcharge a customer during fueling.
For example:
- A customer asks for 17 liters of diesel
- Enter 18 liters instead
Most customers will reject the payment, but eventually one transaction will go through and unlock the achievement.
While this does technically make extra money, it hurts your reputation badly. Customers leave complaints online, which lowers your business reputation over time. It is fine for the achievement, but not a good long-term strategy.
What Was That?
This is one of the strangest achievements in the game.
Walk behind the supermarket through the park until you find the glowing green statue. Stand near it and stare at it for a few moments.
After a short time, the achievement unlocks.
Money Achievements
Several achievements are tied directly to your total balance:
- First Savings
- Making Money
- Serious Cash
- Big Earnings
- Rolling in Cash
These unlock after reaching:
- $5,000
- $10,000
- $25,000
- $50,000
- $100,000
You will naturally earn most of these while progressing through the game.
A good pricing strategy early on is:
- Gas Mart items around $2 to $3 above market price
- Fuel about $1 to $2 above normal price
- Car Wash left at the default $150 price
Charging too much causes customer complaints and lowers your reputation, so moderate pricing works much better overall.
Business Unlock Achievements
Car Wash Business
The Car Wash becomes available at Level 7 for $10,000.
This should probably be your first major business purchase because it provides solid passive income once automated properly.
Getting the Car Wash early helps progression a lot during the mid-game.
Supermarket Owner
The supermarket unlocks at Level 12 and costs $15,000.
This becomes one of the best money-making businesses in the game because customers tolerate much higher prices compared to the Gas Mart.
Once you own the supermarket, earning money becomes dramatically easier.
Upgrade Achievements
The game rewards you for purchasing upgrades:
- First Improvements
- Improving Operations
- Advanced Setup
- Mastering Upgrades
Many upgrades unlock progressively after purchasing earlier tiers.
Some of the best upgrades early include:
- Faster fuel filling
- Reduced facility costs
- Lower daily expenses
- Loyalty programs
The loyalty upgrades are especially useful because they increase customer traffic even during bad weather.
Eventually, you will likely unlock almost every upgrade naturally.
Leveling Achievements
Level achievements include:
- Getting Started
- Up and Running
- Steady Growth
- Highway Hub
- Well Established
These unlock at:
- Level 5
- Level 10
- Level 15
- Level 20
- Level 25
Almost every customer interaction gives EXP.
One important thing to know is that employees provide much less EXP than manually doing the work yourself. Automation saves time, but personally handling fueling and cashier tasks levels you up much faster.
Item Unlock Achievements
These achievements require unlocking store products:
- Expanding Catalog
- Growing Inventory
- Product Variety
- Wide Selection
- Massive Selection
The item count includes products for both:
- Gas Mart
- Supermarket
There are far more available products than you actually need for the final achievement, so you should unlock these naturally while expanding inventory.
Employee Achievements
Helping Hands
Hire your first employee.
You’re Fired!
Fire an employee.
Top Talent
Hire a 5-star employee.
These usually become available around Level 20.
Employee Tips
One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is hiring cheap workers too early.
Low-star employees often:
- Use the wrong fuel type
- Damage vehicles
- Cause insurance fines
- Get sick frequently
1-star and 2-star gas station workers are especially unreliable.
It is usually better to:
- Handle fueling yourself early
- Use only cheap cashiers if necessary
- Wait until you can afford 3-star employees
Higher-paid workers also seem to get sick less often.
Rock Bottom Bankruptcy Achievement
This is usually the hardest and most annoying achievement in the game.
To unlock it, you must reach negative $10,000.
However, there is a huge warning:
This permanently ruins your save file.
Because of that, you should absolutely create a separate save file before attempting it.
Fast Bankruptcy Method
Step 1
Create a completely new save file.
Step 2
Rush through the tutorial quickly by:
- Talking to the nervous woman
- Placing starter items
- Opening the required facilities
Step 3
Spend the starting $2,000 entirely on fuel.
Step 4
Open both stores.
Step 5
Open the gas valves and intentionally leave them open.
Whenever inspectors catch this, you receive heavy fines.
Step 6
Purposely fill vehicles with the wrong fuel.
This causes insurance penalties and damages customer vehicles.
Step 7
Repeat the process over several in-game days until your balance reaches -$10,000.
The hardest part is honestly waiting for inspectors to appear consistently.
