RealRTCW is one of the best ways to replay the classic Return to Castle Wolfenstein experience with modern improvements, harder combat, survival mechanics, extra modes, and a huge number of achievements to unlock. The game now includes the main campaign, survival mode, DLC campaigns, workshop add-ons, and even restored content inspired by Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
Because of how much content exists now, getting 100% completion can feel overwhelming at first. There are missable achievements, hidden secrets, difficulty-based rewards, and even special Malta Base events that only happen during certain visits. Missing one thing can sometimes force you to replay an entire mission.
This guide is written to help beginners and completionists understand everything in a simple and organized way. Instead of rushing through achievement names with short explanations, this walkthrough focuses on giving proper details, useful tips, and clear explanations so you always know what to expect before starting a mission.
If you plan on fully completing RealRTCW in 2026, this guide will save you a lot of frustration.
RealRTCW Achievement Guide & Walkthrough (UPDATED 2026)
Before starting your achievement hunt, it is important to understand that the developers changed a lot of things compared to older versions of the mod.
Previously, the game had:
- 140 achievements
- 15 extra achievement maps
Now the game contains:
- 105 achievements
- Only 3 major add-on campaigns required for achievements
Many older workshop maps and achievements were removed because they became difficult for the developers to maintain. The good news is that this makes 100% completion much more manageable than before.
Even though removed maps no longer give achievements, they are still playable and worth trying if you enjoy classic Wolfenstein-style content.
Mods and Add-Ons You Need
Before you begin achievement hunting, make sure you install the required content properly.
Base Requirement
You must own:
- Return to Castle Wolfenstein
- RealRTCW
RealRTCW works as a mod for the original game, so owning the base game is mandatory.
Required Add-Ons
You also need these workshop campaigns:
- The Dark Army: Uprising
- Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Single-Player
To activate DLC campaigns:
- Launch RealRTCW
- Open the “ADD-ONS” menu
- Select the DLC you want to play
If workshop content does not appear correctly, verify your Steam files and restart the game.
Understanding How Missions Work
One thing that confuses many new players is the difference between chapters and missions.
In RealRTCW:
- A mission contains several chapters
- Chapters end after score screens or cutscenes
- Missions end when you return to Malta Base
Malta Base is extremely important because:
- Certain achievements only appear during specific visits
- Missing one can force a replay of earlier missions
- Some hidden interactions become unavailable later
This is why making backup saves before leaving Malta Base is highly recommended.
Best Difficulty for Achievement Hunting
Most achievements can technically be unlocked on any difficulty, but for easier completion:
- Use lower difficulties for exploration achievements
- Use Death Incarnate/Realism only for Hardcore achievements
Hardcore runs are significantly tougher because:
- Health pickups are limited
- Enemies deal massive damage
- HUD elements may disappear
- Some modes remove manual saving
If you are new to RealRTCW, finish the campaign once normally before attempting Hardcore completion.
Main Campaign Achievements
The main campaign contains the largest number of achievements in the game. Many unlock naturally through progression, while others require secret interactions or special conditions.
Campaign Completion Achievements
These achievements unlock simply by completing missions.
Mission Completion Achievements
Each mission has:
- A normal completion achievement
- A Hardcore version for Death Incarnate/Realism difficulty
Examples include:
- Ominous Rumors
- Dark Secret
- Weapons of Vengeance
- Deadly Designs
- Deathshead’s Playground
- Return Engagement
- Operation Resurrection
The Hardcore versions can be stressful because some levels become extremely punishing on higher difficulties. Save carefully and always stock up at Malta Base before starting difficult sections.
Bonus Mode Achievements
The game includes special challenge modifiers called Bonus Modes.
Some of the major challenge achievements include:
Average Hitscan Enjoyer
Complete a chapter on Hardcore Mode.
This mode removes health and armor pickups while increasing enemy danger. Thankfully, you still get checkpoints and quicksaves.
Didn’t Even Break a Sweat
Complete a chapter on Walk in the Park mode.
This mode removes your HUD and uses Realism difficulty, making navigation and ammo tracking much harder than expected.
No Pressure
Complete a chapter on Ironman Mode.
This is one of the most stressful achievements because:
- No manual saves
- No checkpoints
- Death can ruin an entire run
For this achievement, choose shorter missions and play extremely cautiously.
The 2000 Yard Stare
Complete Nightmare Mode.
This is easily one of the hardest achievements in RealRTCW because:
- No HUD
- No saves
- No armor pickups
- Death Incarnate difficulty
Only attempt this after mastering the campaign.
Hidden Bonus Levels
One of the coolest surprises in RealRTCW is the return of classic Wolfenstein-style secret levels.
To access them:
- Open Credits from the main menu
- Watch until the end
- Select “Get Psyched!”
This unlocks hidden retro-style levels inspired by older Wolfenstein games.
Get Psyched I & II
These achievements require completing the hidden bonus stages and finding secret elevators hidden within them.
These levels are nostalgic and honestly some of the most fun content in the mod.
Boss Achievements
Several achievements unlock by defeating major bosses.
Ancient Weaponsmith
Defeat Olaic.
Ultimate Killing Machine
Defeat the Uber Soldat.
The Dark King
Defeat Heinrich.
Most bosses become much easier if you conserve heavy ammo beforehand instead of wasting rockets and Panzerfaust rounds on normal enemies.
Important Malta Base Achievements
Malta Base contains many hidden achievements that players often miss.
Because Malta changes after every mission, always explore it fully before continuing the campaign.
Malta Base Secrets and Achievements
Airborne Training
Jump from one tower into a hay cart.
This is a fun Assassin’s Creed-style easter egg.
Firing Range
Enter the training range near the docks.
How the Muppet Like You Passed Selection?
Complete the training course inside the firing range.
This achievement is easier than it sounds, but movement mistakes can slow you down.
Whatever You Do, Don’t Fall Asleep
Sleep in the hotel room and survive the nightmare sequence.
This section surprises many first-time players because it suddenly changes tone completely.
Pirates!
Find the hidden vent behind the red curtains inside the hotel.
You Are Not Supposed to Be Here!
Stand on the bartender’s counter long enough to annoy him.
Simple but funny.
Black Market
Find the smugglers’ hideout near the port area.
This hidden area is easy to miss because the entrance is concealed behind crates and a trapdoor.
Mission-Specific Achievement Tips
Many achievements require performing unusual actions during missions.
Mission 1: Ominous Rumors
Escape!
Complete the opening level in under 90 seconds.
This is basically a speedrun achievement, so memorize enemy locations beforehand.
Hidden Treasure
Find your very first secret room.
You will likely unlock this naturally.
Valuable Property of the Reich
Find hidden wine in the wine cellar and drink it.
This is one of the funniest early-game achievements.
Mission 2: Dark Secret
Gold Rush
Solve the crypt lever puzzle correctly and discover the hidden treasure room.
The puzzle order is hinted earlier in the mission, so pay attention to environmental clues.
Dr. Jones?
Find the Crystal Skull hidden after the altar section.
This achievement is a clear Indiana Jones reference and easy to miss if you do not explore side platforms.
Foot Fetishism
Kill an Elite Guard using only your kick attack.
Lower her health first before attempting the final kick.
Mission 3: Weapons of Vengeance
You’re Pretty Good!
Complete the forest mission without failing or reloading.
Make a backup save before starting the mission from Malta.
Infiltrator
Avoid detection and use the alternate route inside Rocket Base.
Stealth matters here, unlike most other levels.
Mission 4: Deadly Designs
Reverse Lend Lease I
Find the hidden PPSH weapon.
The secret room is unlocked using a hidden button near the machine gunner area.
Damn, You’re Ugly!
Kill the Loper using a Panzerfaust.
Save heavy ammo specifically for this fight.
Mission 5: Deathshead’s Playground
Superiority of Flesh and Blood
Kill the Proto Soldier using only your knife for the final hit.
This is risky because Proto Soldiers are extremely aggressive.
Mission 6: Return Engagement
Ghost of Paderborn
Complete the mission without failure or quick-loading.
Another achievement where backup Malta saves are extremely useful.
Reverse Lend Lease II
Find the hidden Mosin Rifle behind a secret portrait lever.
Always inspect paintings and suspicious walls in RealRTCW because secrets are everywhere.
Mission 7: Operation Resurrection
Hasta la Vista
Destroy the bridge while the Proto Soldier stands on it.
Timing matters here, so quicksave beforehand.
Henry the Fowler
Kill Heinrich using the collapsing cave trap.
This is one of the hardest achievements because:
- Heinrich moves unpredictably
- Ghosts pressure you constantly
- Timing must be perfect
Patience helps more than aggression here.
Survival Mode Achievements
Survival mode introduces wave-based combat challenges.
There are:
- Human enemy maps
- Undead enemy maps
- Random orb powerups
- Perks and classes
Best Survival Achievement Tips
Classless Society
Reach Wave 15 without selecting a class.
Non-Monetary Economy
Reach Wave 10 without purchasing anything.
This is one of the hardest survival achievements because:
- Ammo becomes limited
- Resupply stations invalidate the achievement
- You rely heavily on melee and orb drops
Mounted machine guns help significantly.
Super Soldier
Have 3 active powerups at once.
You need:
- Red orb
- Blue orb
- Yellow orb
This achievement is partially luck-based because orb drops are random.
The Dark Army: Uprising Achievements
The Dark Army: Uprising is much shorter than the main campaign, but still contains several difficult challenges.
Important Tips
- Dark Mode is the hardest setting
- Skeleton enemies revive unless destroyed completely
- Flamethrowers become extremely important later
Dark Realm Master
Complete the Dark Realm survival mode.
This becomes very difficult in later waves because enemies overwhelm you quickly if you waste ammo early.
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Single-Player Achievements
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Single-Player contains 36 achievements and several excellent missions.
Many achievements involve:
- Treasure collection
- Stealth objectives
- Hidden gold
- Time challenges
Easy Enemy Territory Achievements
Noobtube
Kill an enemy using the M7 grenade launcher.
Affirmative, On My Way!
Kill an enemy with an airstrike.
Unconventional Weapon
Kill an enemy using poison gas grenades.
These are simple once you understand the class system.
Gold Rush Mission Tips
Perfect Heist
Complete the first half of the bank mission without detection.
This is heavily stealth-focused and much easier once you memorize patrol routes.
Kelly’s Heroes
Collect all 9 gold bars hidden throughout the mission.
Several are hidden behind secret levers and fake walls.
Ice Mission Tips
The Ice mission contains some of the coolest achievements in the game.
Death’s Dead
Snipe Deathshead at the very start of the level before he escapes.
This is one of the easiest missable achievements in the expansion.
Sky Melting
Protect the transmitter from bombers.
Move to the mounted MG immediately after clearing the area.
May the Fate Hold Off the Coming of the Storm…
Destroy the chair near the sniper tower using C4.
Very strange achievement, but memorable.
