Getting started in Prime Monster can feel surprisingly overwhelming at first. The game throws political systems, debates, tactics, party members, and resource management at you almost immediately, and while the tutorial explains the basics, it does not always make everything easy to understand during an actual run.
This guide covers the core systems in simple terms, explains what your resources actually do, and includes beginner-friendly tips to help you survive your first few campaigns. The game mixes deckbuilding, turn-based combat, and political strategy together, so learning how everything connects is the key to winning consistently.
Prime Monster Beginner Guide Wiki – Politics
Your resources are the foundation of every run. Knowing which ones matter most and when to spend them is a huge part of improving.
Authority
Authority is basically your health bar for the campaign. Depending on difficulty, your maximum Authority usually ranges from 60 to 100.
If your Authority reaches zero, you can lose through a vote of no confidence, even if your deck is strong. Higher Authority also gives you a better starting position because more MPs may begin on your side instead of neutral.
You should treat Authority carefully early on, but do not panic over small losses. The game gives you ways to recover it later through events and Legacy rewards.
Cash
Cash is used for buying staff and items in the shop.
Money becomes extremely important in the middle of a run because strong staff members can completely change how powerful your build feels. In general, more money means more options, which usually means a safer campaign.
Do not waste all your money early unless the item or staff member is exceptionally strong.
Poll Rating
Poll Rating represents your popularity with the public.
Every four years, an election happens. If your Poll Rating is too low when the election arrives, your campaign can end immediately. The good news is that Poll Rating swings constantly, so a bad situation can still recover surprisingly fast.
Keeping your Poll Rating safely above the red zone is usually enough for most runs.
Political Capital (PC)
Political Capital is the resource used to activate Tactics during debates.
Think of it like mana or energy in other strategy games. Unlike many resources, PC carries over between fights, which makes it incredibly valuable. Finishing debates with high PC gives you a much stronger start in the next battle.
Because of this, experienced players often avoid overspending PC if they are already winning comfortably.
Legacy
Legacy works like your experience and leveling system.
As Legacy increases, you gain rewards such as:
- +10 maximum Authority
- New Tactics
- Occasionally +1 maximum Political Capital
Legacy is nice to have, but it should not be your main focus. It grows naturally during successful runs, especially if you win debates by larger margins.
Office
The office is where you manage your campaign between debates.
Some menus are much more important than others, especially for beginners.
Schedule
The Schedule menu lets you choose upcoming opponents after getting elected.
This becomes important later because some enemies are far more dangerous than others. Picking easier or more rewarding fights can make your campaign much smoother.
Shop
The Shop is easily one of the most important screens in the game.
You can buy:
- Items
- Staff members
- Utility upgrades
The first two shop slots are always items, while the last two are always staff. The middle slot changes randomly.
By default, you can carry three items at once.
Strategy
Once you unlock more than five Tactics, the Strategy screen becomes available.
This menu lets you swap Tactics in and out before fights. Some enemies require specific answers, so adjusting your loadout is extremely important later in the game.
Shop
Learning what to buy is one of the biggest skill checks in Prime Monster.
Best Item Types
The safest item categories are usually:
- Money generation
- Stuns
- Political Capital recovery
- Poll boosts
Poll boosting items are especially useful before elections. There is no reason to waste them earlier unless you are in danger.
Damage items can help, but utility items usually save runs more consistently.
Staff Advice
Staff quality varies wildly.
Some staff members are incredibly powerful, while others barely make a difference. Effects like:
- Extra Tactic slots
- Preventing the first Poll loss
- Extra money generation
can completely carry weaker builds.
Meanwhile, some expensive staff simply never pay for themselves before the campaign ends.
As a general rule, avoid overpriced economy staff late in a run because there may not be enough fights left to recover the investment.
How Red Box Events Work
Red Box events are random political decisions that appear between debates.
Most runs include several of these events, and your choices can affect:
- Money
- Poll Rating
- Authority
- Political Capital
- Future event chains
Some events have delayed consequences. A choice that looks free now may punish you later, while expensive choices can eventually reward you.
Resource Priority Tips
In most situations, resources should be valued roughly like this:
- Money
- Poll Rating
- Authority
- Political Capital
Money is strongest because it leads to better staff and stronger long-term scaling.
However, priorities can change depending on your situation. If your Poll Rating is dangerously low before an election, restoring it immediately becomes more important than anything else.
Understanding Civil Debates
Debates are where most of the gameplay happens.
Your goal is simple:
- Increase your votes
- Reduce your opponent’s votes
- Finish with more votes when the timer ends
The side with the higher vote total wins.
How Unity Works
Each side has a Unity meter.
When your Unity meter fills completely, one MP changes their vote in your favor. Neutral voters become supporters, while enemy supporters may first become neutral before switching sides later.
Lowering the enemy Unity meter works the opposite way and can weaken their support.
This system is the core of debate strategy. Most successful builds focus heavily on manipulating Unity efficiently.
Beginner Character Guide: Chopper Badstone
Playstyle
Chopper Badstone is the easiest starting leader for beginners.
He focuses on:
- Defensive play
- Retaliation effects
- Self-damage synergy
- Ability charging
- Stuns
His main strength comes from converting damage into powerful vote swings.
How to Play Chopper Effectively
Chopper actually benefits from taking damage because getting hit charges his special ability.
This means self-damage cards are often surprisingly strong. Taking a small amount of damage to generate huge Unity swings is usually worth the trade.
Retaliate effects are also excellent because they trigger whenever Chopper gets hit, including from his own self-damage effects.
Strong Tactics for Chopper
Bait
A cheap and reliable card that provides both damage and Retaliate value.
Provoke
One of Chopper’s best setup tools because it triggers self-damage consistently. Upgraded versions hit twice, making Retaliate builds even stronger.
Stunner
Cheap stuns are always useful, especially against dangerous opponents.
Super Tribal
An excellent defensive option that provides long-lasting protection.
