Lazlo is at his best when you keep his Heat Meter moving and take advantage of the short windows where his Critical Hit Chance becomes extremely high. This build uses Axatana for fast melee combos and Ballistazooka for a powerful ranged burst once your Heat begins to fall.
The important thing to understand about Lazlo is that you are not simply building a character with high Critical Hit Chance and then attacking normally. The build has a rhythm.
You first spend Resolve on Retribution to build Heat and enter Overheat. Once Overheat is active, Axatana’s rapid Light Attack combos become your main source of pressure. Those attacks also help recover the Resolve you spent getting Lazlo into Overheat.
When the Heat Meter eventually starts falling, you switch to Ballistazooka and use Fusillade Stone to turn your remaining Resolve into a burst of consecutive ranged attacks.
So the basic Lazlo loop is:
Build Heat → Enter Overheat → Attack rapidly → Recover Resolve → Fire Ballistazooka → Build Heat again.
This setup is designed for the mid-game and is particularly strong around Level 35. It takes a little resource management to play properly, but once you get used to the Heat and Resolve cycle, Lazlo becomes a very aggressive and flexible Shell.

The build’s biggest strengths are its high Critical Hit Chance, rapid Resolve generation, and strong melee and ranged burst.
The main weakness is that Lazlo needs to establish his Heat and Resolve before he reaches full effectiveness. If you spend your Resolve carelessly at the start of a fight, you can delay the entire rotation.
Best Weapon and Sidearm
Axatana
The Axatana is Lazlo’s main weapon and the most important part of his melee rotation.
Its fast Light Attack combos work perfectly with Duality Stone, which makes the attacks strike twice.
This gives Lazlo two major benefits.
First, his normal melee damage increases significantly.
Second, all those additional hits help him rebuild the Resolve spent on Retribution.
That second part is easy to overlook.
Retribution is what you use to build Lazlo’s Heat, so the faster you can recover Resolve after spending it, the faster you can prepare another Overheat cycle.
The Axatana therefore serves as both Lazlo’s primary damage weapon and his main resource-recovery tool.
Ballistazooka
The Ballistazooka is Lazlo’s ranged burst option.
You generally do not want to start every encounter by immediately emptying your Resolve into it. Ballistazooka becomes much more useful after Lazlo has completed his Overheat setup and the Heat Meter begins to fall.
At that point, Fusillade Stone can consume accumulated Resolve to fire a series of shots with increased Critical Hit Chance.
This gives Lazlo a second damage window after his main melee sequence.
It also means the build does not become useless when an enemy moves away from you. You can switch to ranged attacks instead of chasing the target and losing valuable time.
Best Support Tarstones
Deadeye Stone
Deadeye Stone improves Ballistazooka’s Critical Damage.
This becomes particularly valuable when combined with Fusillade Stone, which turns the Ballistazooka into a rapid-fire burst weapon.
Instead of relying on one projectile, you are firing multiple attacks in succession, giving your Critical Hit bonuses more opportunities to contribute damage.
Headman’s Stone
Headman’s Stone improves Critical Damage for Lazlo’s melee attacks.
The Axatana attacks extremely quickly, so increasing the damage of each Critical Hit adds up over the course of a combo.
This works particularly well once Rush is active and Lazlo’s Critical Hit Chance has increased.
Marksman’s Stone
Marksman’s Stone improves Ballistazooka’s Critical Hit Chance.
This is especially important for Fusillade Stone because you want as many of those consecutive shots as possible to benefit from Critical Hits.

Auspicious Stone

Because Lazlo attacks so quickly, even a moderate improvement to Critical Hit Chance can have a noticeable impact over the course of a full combo.
Best Primary Weapon Tarstones
Duality Stone
Duality Stone is one of the most important Tarstones for the Axatana.
It causes Lazlo’s Light Attack combo to strike twice.
This makes the weapon significantly more effective during Overheat because Lazlo is already attacking rapidly, and now those attacks provide additional hits.
Those extra hits are useful for both damage and Resolve generation.
For this reason, Duality Stone is not simply a damage upgrade. It is an important part of Lazlo’s resource loop.
Voltaic Crown
Voltaic Crown adds a Lightning infusion to Lazlo’s Axatana.
The additional Lightning damage gives your fast melee attacks another source of damage throughout the combo.
Since Lazlo is already trying to stay aggressive during Overheat, an infusion that benefits repeated attacks fits naturally into the build.
It also gives you another way to pressure enemies while you are maintaining your melee rotation.
Acolyte’s Stone
Acolyte’s Stone gives Lazlo a powerful Resolve-powered Charged Light Attack with increased Critical Hit Chance and Critical Damage.
This makes it a strong finisher when you have enough Resolve remaining after completing your main Overheat setup.
There is an important resource-management point here, though.
Do not immediately spend all of your Resolve on the Charged Light Attack before your main setup is complete.
Retribution needs Resolve, and Fusillade Stone also needs Resolve.
Acolyte’s Stone is best treated as an additional burst option once you have already established the main rotation.
Best Sidearm Tarstones
Rupturing Stone
Rupturing Stone allows Critical Ballistazooka shots to deal additional Break Damage.
This is particularly effective with Fusillade Stone because the Ballistazooka fires multiple shots in succession.
The more Critical Hits you land, the more opportunities you have to damage the enemy’s Break gauge.
This gives Lazlo a useful secondary role during boss fights: he can not only deal ranged damage but also help create a Break opportunity.
Emberseed Stone
Emberseed Stone permanently infuses Ballistazooka projectiles with Burn.
This is particularly useful against normal enemies.
Burn can cause enemies to enter a reaction animation, briefly interrupting their attacks.
That makes Ballistazooka much more useful when several enemies are approaching at once.
You can fire a few shots, apply Burn, interrupt the group, and then move back into Axatana attacks once you have created some breathing room.
Fusillade Stone
Fusillade Stone is the centerpiece of Lazlo’s ranged damage.
It consumes accumulated Resolve to fire consecutive Ballistazooka shots with increased Critical Hit Chance.
The timing matters.
You generally want to use it when your Heat Meter is beginning to fall after your main Overheat melee sequence.
This lets you convert the remaining Resolve into another burst window instead of simply allowing the Heat cycle to end without getting additional value from your resources.
Best Lazlo Shell Abilities
Lazlo’s recommended Shell setup uses 22 Shell Points.
The abilities work together to make Retribution cheaper, improve Resolve generation, maintain Heat, and create the Critical Hit window that the rest of the build relies on.
Worthy Armor
Worthy Armor reduces the Resolve cost of Retribution.
At Level 2, it reduces the cost by 30%.
This is extremely useful because Retribution is the starting point of your Heat rotation.
If Retribution costs less, you need less Resolve to enter Overheat and have more resources available for your subsequent attacks.
This is one of the first abilities to prioritize because it improves the entire rotation rather than only one attack.
Warmed Up
Warmed Up increases Lazlo’s damage and melee Resolve generation as his Heat Meter rises.
At Level 2, it can provide up to 30% increased damage and 35% additional Resolve generation from melee attacks.
This fits perfectly with Axatana.
You want to attack rapidly during Overheat, and Warmed Up rewards you for doing exactly that.
The increased Resolve generation also helps replace the Resolve spent on Retribution, allowing you to prepare the next cycle more quickly.
Incandescence
Incandescence helps Lazlo rebuild his Heat.
At Level 2, it restores 35% of the Heat Meter whenever Lazlo’s Armor finishes its cooldown.
This means you do not have to start completely from scratch every time your Heat cycle ends.
The ability becomes particularly valuable in longer fights because maintaining access to Overheat is one of the main things that separates a strong Lazlo rotation from a weak one.
Inflamed
Inflamed prevents the Heat Meter from draining over time.
It also causes Overheated shockwaves to stop consuming Resolve while inflicting 10 Burn stacks.
This makes Lazlo much better at maintaining pressure.
Instead of constantly watching your Heat disappear while you are trying to attack, you get a much more stable Overheat window.
The Burn stacks also give you another way to pressure enemies, particularly when fighting groups.
Rush
Rush is the main Critical Hit ability in the build.
At Level 4, it grants Warp stacks and increases Critical Hit Chance whenever Lazlo’s Armor enters cooldown.
This creates the Critical Hit window that the rest of the build is designed to exploit.
When Rush is active, your Axatana attacks become much more dangerous, and your Ballistazooka burst can also take advantage of the increased Critical Hit potential.
Because Rush requires a larger Shell Point investment, it is one of the main reasons the build reaches such a high damage ceiling.

Alternative Shell Ability
Furnace
If you find the standard Critical Lazlo setup too aggressive, you can move some points from Rush into Furnace.
Furnace provides additional Damage Reduction while Lazlo’s Heat Meter is full.
This makes the build more forgiving during longer fights because you are less likely to be punished while maintaining your Heat.
The trade-off is straightforward: you lose some of the Critical Hit potential that makes the standard build so explosive.
For players still learning Lazlo, Furnace can be a comfortable alternative.
Once you become more confident with positioning and Harden timing, you can move back toward Rush and focus on maximizing damage.
Best Lazlo Seal
Vatra’s Seal
The recommended Seal is Vatra’s Seal.
Lazlo spends a lot of time attacking with rapid Axatana combos, and Vatra’s Seal lets him Harden to absorb an incoming attack without completely abandoning his offensive pressure.
This is especially useful during longer attack animations.
Instead of stopping your combo because an enemy is about to hit you, you can Harden at the right moment, absorb the attack, and continue your offensive sequence.
A well-timed Perfect Harden can also deal Break Damage, giving you another way to pressure enemy posture.
The important thing is timing.
You do not want to Harden randomly. Use it when you recognize that an enemy attack is about to interrupt your combo.
Untarnished Seal
Untarnished Seal is the alternative if you prefer traditional blocking and parrying.
Its Perfect Guard can deal Break Damage, which makes it useful for creating openings before you begin your Heat rotation.
If you are already comfortable with Perfect Guards, there is nothing wrong with using this instead of Vatra’s Seal.
For most Lazlo players, however, Vatra’s Seal fits the aggressive playstyle more naturally.
Best Lazlo Items
Active Item
For the active item, use an elemental resistance item that counters the main status or element found in the area you are currently exploring.
There is not one universal choice that is perfect for every location.
Lazlo wants to remain aggressive while building Heat, so elemental effects that repeatedly interrupt or punish you can make the rotation much harder to maintain.
Changing your resistance item based on the area can therefore make the build considerably safer without sacrificing its main damage mechanics.
Grisha Remnant
Use Grisha Remnant as the passive item.
The summoned Grisha provides additional support during combat and can help Lazlo maintain pressure while he is setting up Heat and working through his Overheat rotation.
It is particularly useful during exploration, where you are more likely to encounter groups of normal enemies rather than a single boss.
