Merge Tactics looks simple when you first load in, but once you start pushing ladder, it becomes very clear that not all comps scale the same way. Some builds feel strong early but collapse the moment players start upgrading properly. Others look awkward or expensive at first, then suddenly snowball so hard that the fight feels over before it starts.
Below are the three strategies that consistently win games in the current season, explained from a practical ladder perspective rather than theorycrafting.
3. Mereg Tactics Build for February Season 2026: Full Superstars + Golden Knight + Bandit
High ceiling, expensive, still absurdly strong
This comp lives and dies by how well you understand scaling. At one-star, it feels mediocre. At two-star, it starts to stabilize. At three-star, it turns into a nightmare to fight.
The core strength of the full Superstars setup is that many of its strongest effects are not tied directly to raw stats. The Witch generating endless skeletons, Electro Giant providing constant stuns, and Monk reflecting damage all remain impactful even before perfect upgrades. Once those units start hitting higher star levels, the value ramps up exponentially.
What pushed this comp back into relevance is the Spirit Empress. Because she is now accessible to everyone, cycling elixir and forcing upgrades has become much easier. You can realistically max out Superstars faster than in previous seasons if you play your rolls cleanly and don’t panic early.
The hidden strength here is assassins. Bandit and Golden Knight instantly punish ranged backlines. Against Executioner, Princess, or Wizard-heavy boards, this comp often wins fights simply by deleting the backline before damage ramps up.
The downside is still cost. This is not a forgiving comp. If you mismanage elixir or over-roll too early, you can bleed HP fast. But if you master Spirit Empress timing and learn when to sell two-stars for tempo, this comp can completely take over a lobby.
2. Mereg Tactics Build for February Season 2026: Double Giants + Wizard + Executioner + Monk + Archer Queen
The most flexible comp in the game
This was widely considered the best comp last season, and it’s still near the top because it answers almost everything.
Double Giants give you an absurd frontline that buys time no matter what you’re facing. Monk acts as both a defensive wall and a counter to burst damage, especially against Echo Sage and other high-impact abilities. Executioner and Wizard shred grouped enemies, while Archer Queen quietly wins fights by sniping priority targets and manipulating aggro.
What makes this comp special is how well it pivots. If your shop rolls are bad, you can temporarily slot in alternatives without ruining the core idea. If you suddenly hit Superstars pieces, you can even transition mid-game without throwing.
This build is especially strong for mid-ladder players because it doesn’t rely on perfect positioning or flawless rolls. As long as you spread your units and avoid clumping into Echo Sage, you’re usually fine.
Archer Queen deserves special mention here. Her ability to pull enemies, disappear, and re-engage often breaks enemy targeting logic. Many fights are won simply because the opponent wastes damage chasing her while your backline cleans up.
1. Mereg Tactics Build for February Season 2026: Four Brutalists + Archer Queen + Skeleton Dragons
The meta breaker
This comp doesn’t win by out-tanking or out-DPSing. It wins by ignoring how tanky your opponent is.
The Brutalist trait cuts a percentage of enemy HP. That single mechanic is what makes this build terrifying. Monk, Mega Knight, Giants, Brawlers, none of them matter when their health bars are being shredded regardless of investment.
This is why the comp performs so well against top-tier boards. The stronger your opponent’s units are, the more value you gain. Valkyrie splash damage, Skeleton Dragon pressure, and Brutalist HP reduction combine into fights that end shockingly fast.
It is particularly effective against Monk-centric comps, which is important because Monk is arguably the strongest standalone unit in the game right now. Brutalists don’t care about reflect or tank stats. They simply burn through it.
The main weakness is spacing. Against very spread-out, ranged boards, Brutalists lose some efficiency. Echo Sage can also be dangerous if your units clump, so positioning matters more here than with the other two comps.
That said, once players unlock and understand Spirit Empress, even Echo Sage becomes manageable. At higher ladder levels, this comp consistently outperforms nearly everything else when piloted correctly.
