Megabonk Best Characters – Weapons, Builds & Tier List

If you’ve played even a few rounds of Megabonk, you already know the game doesn’t pull punches. One run you’re steamrolling mobs with projectiles bouncing off every wall, and the next you’re bonked into oblivion because you picked the wrong shrine at the wrong time. The good news? The chaos has patterns. Once you learn which characters are worth focusing on, how to stack the right tomes, and which items break the rules, you’ll start clearing runs far more consistently.

This Megabonk Best Characters guide is built from scratch — no recycled lists, no filler — just practical advice from what’s actually working in the current meta.

Characters

Every character has their quirks, but only a handful really stand out when you’re trying to survive higher curse levels.

CL4NK
CL4NK starts with the Revolver, which is hands-down one of the smoothest weapons in the game. It benefits from almost every global buff — attack speed, projectile count, crit — so you never feel locked into a corner. If you’re new or just want reliable clears, this is the go-to pick.

Calcium
Calcium flips the script by turning movement speed into both offense and defense. The faster you go, the more damage you deal and the harder you are to kill. Builds that stack speed tomes and projectile upgrades turn Calcium into a living tornado.

Megachad
He doesn’t come online immediately, but once you feed him enough damage tomes, Megachad can melt bosses like butter. You’ll need patience and careful shrine choices to get him rolling, but the payoff is worth it.

Sir Oofie
Oofie is your starter, and honestly, he’s not great beyond the early game. Play him for nostalgia, but don’t expect him to keep up in cursed runs.

Weapons and Tomes: Building a Backbone

The key to surviving longer isn’t just grabbing random upgrades — it’s layering synergies so every new choice strengthens the core of your build.

Tomes that never go out of style:

  • Attack Speed: More hits = more chances to trigger effects.
  • Projectile Count: Essential for Revolver, Bones, and Banana Gun.
  • XP Gain: Snowballs you faster into late-game power.
  • Damage: The answer to every boss.
  • Movement Speed: Defensive and offensive value rolled into one.

Weapons worth mastering:

  • Revolver: Consistent, scales with almost everything.
  • Aura: The AoE king. Perfect for “walk and watch everything melt” builds.
  • Bones: Chaotic fun with the right bounce/spread synergies.
  • Banana Gun: If you like filling the entire screen with nonsense, this is the pick.

Items

Think of items as the seasoning that turns a decent recipe into something unforgettable. A good combo can double your run’s power curve.

  • Crit Packages: Forbidden Juice + crit damage scaling = delete everything.
  • Projectile Chaos: Stack +projectile and spread modifiers with Bouncer Gloves for hilarious screen coverage.
  • On-Hit Effects: Poison, freeze, and burn items are absurd when paired with fast-hitting weapons.
  • Defensive Safety Net: Shields, regen, and dodge let you make mistakes and keep going.

Shrines: Risk vs Reward

Shrines are some of the most tempting (and punishing) parts of the game. Here’s the quick breakdown:

  • Shrine of Succ: Best used after you’ve wiped a room to vacuum up XP.
  • Bloody Shrine: Extra bosses = extra loot, but don’t click it if you’re already struggling.
  • Moai Shrine: Free choice of items. Always worth stopping for.
  • Microwave: Duplicates items at a cost. Perfect for locking in a synergy.

Builds

The Crit Engine (CL4NK + Revolver)
Focus on crit chance, attack speed, and projectile count. You’ll machine-gun crits until the screen is clear.

The Speed Demon (Calcium + Bones)
Stack movement speed tomes, then add projectile spread. You’ll clear maps just by dashing around.

The Walking AoE (Aura builds)
Stack AoE range and on-hit effects. Once you’re set up, you don’t aim anymore — enemies just evaporate around you.

Megabonk thrives on chaos, but there’s a method to the madness. Once you know which characters scale, how to layer your tomes, and when to gamble on shrines, the game stops feeling random and starts feeling like strategy hidden inside slapstick. The difference between getting “bonked” and doing the bonking? Preparation.

Tier Lists (September 2025 Meta)

Sometimes you just want to know, “Who’s actually the best?” Here’s the current tier breakdown for characters and weapons based on consistency, scaling, and synergy potential.

Character Tier List

S-Tier (Meta Staples)

  • CL4NK – Revolver starter + easy scaling with every global tome.
  • Calcium – Movement speed = damage + tankiness. Near unstoppable with the right items.

A-Tier (Strong but Situational)

  • Megachad – Weak early game, insane late-game payoff if you build damage correctly.
  • Aura Builds (any character) – Aura weapon builds can make anyone feel S-tier with enough AoE scaling.

B-Tier (Playable, but Outclassed)

  • Sir Oofie – The starter hero. Works for learning, but weak scaling compared to others.

C-Tier

  • Currently none — every character has at least one viable path, but Oofie skirts the line.

Weapon Tier List

S-Tier

  • Revolver – Reliable, safe, and synergizes with every build style.
  • Aura – Best for AoE builds, requires almost no aiming.

A-Tier

  • Bones – Excellent with bounce/spread synergies. Chaos made consistent.
  • Banana Gun – Wild but surprisingly effective when stacked with projectile tomes.

B-Tier

  • Other niche weapons — fun to experiment with, but harder to scale consistently without very specific synergies.
