Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Character Roster and Banner

After months of betas, trailers, State of Play announcements, and character reveals, we finally don’t have to speculate about the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls roster anymore. The launch lineup is complete, and there are 20 playable characters spread across five official teams.

And I have to say, the final roster is a pretty interesting mix.

You’ve obviously got Marvel heavyweights like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Hulk, and Captain America, but Arc System Works didn’t just fill every slot with the safest possible choices. Danger and Peni Parker are much less obvious fighting-game picks, while characters like Magik, Blade, Carnage, and Ghost Rider give the lineup some personality beyond the usual Marvel faces.

The five teams are Unbreakable X-Men, Amazing Guardians, Fighting Avengers, Knights of Doom, and Samurai Outriders, with four characters belonging to each.

Here’s the complete roster and how all 20 characters are divided.

All MARVEL Tōkon Fighting Souls Characters

At launch, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls has 20 playable fighters.

Team Characters
Unbreakable X-Men Storm, Magik, Wolverine, Danger
Amazing Guardians Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Peni Parker
Fighting Avengers Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther
Knights of Doom Doctor Doom, Magneto, Green Goblin, Carnage
Samurai Outriders Ghost Rider, Blade, Loki, Deadpool

That’s five teams with four characters each.

One important thing to understand is that these official teams don’t lock you into using those four characters together during normal team building. MARVEL Tōkon is built around creating your own four-character squad, so you can mix fighters from the different groups.

Want Black Panther alongside Magik, Blade, and Star-Lord? Go for it.

The five groups are the characters’ official roster teams rather than a restriction on the combinations you can play.

Now let’s take a closer look at everyone.

Unbreakable X-Men – Storm, Magik, Wolverine and Danger

The Unbreakable X-Men bring together four very different fighters:

  • Storm
  • Magik
  • Wolverine
  • Danger

I actually like how this team turned out because Arc System Works could easily have gone with four extremely obvious X-Men picks. Instead, we get two instantly recognizable names alongside Magik and the much more unusual inclusion of Danger.

Storm

First announced: First Beta – September 2025

Storm was part of the game’s earlier playable lineup, so we’ve had considerably more time to understand her than some of the launch additions.

She suits players who enjoy controlling space rather than constantly forcing close-range exchanges. Her abilities give her plenty of presence on screen, and she can make opponents think twice before mindlessly approaching.

Storm also performed well enough during the betas to remain one of my stronger roster picks heading into launch.

Magik

First announced: February 2026 Trailer

Magik turned out to be much more than an interesting roster addition.

Based on the open beta, she’s also one of the strongest characters in MARVEL Tōkon.

Her offensive potential immediately stood out, and there’s enough depth to her toolkit that I don’t think players came close to discovering everything she can do during the short beta period.

She’s one of those characters I’m expecting to become even scarier as specialists spend more time with her.

Wolverine

First announced: February 2026 Trailer

Could you really launch a Marvel fighting game with an X-Men team and leave Wolverine out?

Probably not.

Wolverine brings the aggressive, close-range fighting style you’d expect from him. He’s also one of the characters I’d point newer players toward because his basic approach is relatively easy to understand.

He wasn’t among my absolute strongest beta characters, but don’t confuse that with him being bad. Wolverine has plenty of room to develop now that players have more time to experiment.

Danger

First announced: February 2026 Trailer

Danger is easily one of the more unexpected choices on the entire roster.

She’s also difficult to properly judge this early.

There is clearly potential in her kit, particularly for players who enjoy a more technical approach, but a two-day open beta was never going to be enough time to completely figure her out.

I’d keep an eye on Danger after launch. She’s exactly the type of character whose reputation could change once dedicated players start putting serious hours into her.

Amazing Guardians – Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord and Peni Parker

The Amazing Guardians consist of:

  • Spider-Man
  • Ms. Marvel
  • Star-Lord
  • Peni Parker

This is probably the most colorful team in the launch lineup, mixing Spider-Verse characters with two Guardians-style picks.

Spider-Man

First announced: Tokyo Game Show 2025

Spider-Man was always going to be one of the characters people wanted to play immediately.

Thankfully, he isn’t just here because he’s Spider-Man.

His mobility makes him one of the more entertaining characters to move around with, and there’s plenty of room to get creative once you become comfortable with his tools.

He’s accessible enough that newer players can start learning him without immediately hitting a wall, but mastering his movement is a different story.

Ms. Marvel

First announced: First Beta – September 2025

Ms. Marvel has quietly become one of my favorite recommendations for beginners.

You don’t need to spend hours learning complicated mechanics before her game plan starts making sense. Her toolkit gives newer players room to learn Tōkon’s fundamentals while still being useful in actual matches.

That accessibility doesn’t mean she’s only a beginner character, either. There’s enough here for experienced players to work with once they begin optimizing their teams.

Star-Lord

First announced: First Beta – September 2025

Star-Lord came out of the beta looking extremely good.

He’s versatile, comfortable operating from range, and has enough tools to adjust when the match doesn’t go exactly according to plan. That flexibility is a huge reason I’ve kept him among my current S-Tier characters.

He’s also an excellent addition to mixed team compositions because you don’t necessarily need to build your entire squad around one specific Star-Lord strategy.

Peni Parker

First announced: EVO 2026

Peni Parker was one of the characters I was particularly curious about when she was revealed.

Unfortunately, she didn’t impress me nearly as much during the open beta.

I struggled to find the same payoff that I saw with other mechanically demanding characters. That could absolutely change after launch, especially once players have more than a couple of days to experiment, but she currently has more to prove than most of the roster.

Don’t write her off permanently, though. Early fighting-game tier lists have a habit of aging terribly.

Fighting Avengers – Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and Black Panther

The Fighting Avengers are:

  • Captain America
  • Iron Man
  • Hulk
  • Black Panther

If you’re looking for the team containing the most instantly recognizable Marvel heroes, this is probably it.

Captain America

First announced: First Beta – September 2025

Captain America is one of the easiest characters for me to recommend to somebody playing MARVEL Tōkon for the first time.

His game plan lets you concentrate on learning fundamentals instead of wrestling with complicated character mechanics from match one.

Spacing, timing, defense, punishing mistakes—Cap gives you a good environment for learning all of it.

And being beginner-friendly certainly doesn’t make him weak. He’s still a very capable fighter once you know what you’re doing.

Iron Man

First announced: First Beta – September 2025

Iron Man is another fairly approachable choice, although I’d put him a step above Captain America in terms of what you’ll need to think about.

Spacing matters a lot here.

Once you understand where Iron Man wants to operate and when you should commit, his toolkit starts making considerably more sense.

He’s also a natural fit for teams that want stronger ranged options rather than relying entirely on close-range pressure.

Hulk

First announced: State of Play – June 2026

Hulk was one of the final four launch characters that weren’t available during the 16-character open beta, so I’m not going to pretend we already know exactly where he belongs in the competitive meta.

What we do know is that he’s officially part of the Fighting Avengers and completes their four-character lineup.

And come on—it’s Hulk in an Arc System Works fighting game. I’m expecting players to test just how much punishment and ridiculous damage they can squeeze out of him immediately.

We’ll have a much better idea of his actual strength once proper matches start piling up.

Black Panther

First announced: State of Play – June 2026

Black Panther didn’t need long to make his case.

He joined the playable roster during the open beta and immediately became one of my strongest characters.

His mobility and close-range pressure are a nasty combination. He has the tools to get himself into dangerous positions and then make the opponent seriously regret letting him get there.

Of all the newer beta additions, Black Panther was one of the easiest S-Tier placements for me.

Knights of Doom – Doctor Doom, Magneto, Green Goblin and Carnage

The Knights of Doom consist of:

  • Doctor Doom
  • Magneto
  • Green Goblin
  • Carnage

Yes, this is basically the “things are about to get unpleasant” section of the roster.

And I’m completely fine with that.

Doctor Doom

First announced: First Beta – September 2025

Doctor Doom has been around since the earlier playable builds, giving players more time to get comfortable with him.

He’s particularly appealing if you prefer controlling situations rather than constantly rushing forward.

Doom rewards deliberate play. Knowing what you want your opponent to do—and having an answer ready when they do it—is a big part of making him work.

He’s already strong, and I think there’s still room for dedicated Doom players to push him further.

Magneto

First announced: State of Play – June 2026

Magneto is another character who feels like he’s going to reward specialists.

His ability to influence space makes him an interesting team-building option, especially when paired with characters that can capitalize on the situations he creates.

I liked what I saw during the beta, but I’m particularly interested in what happens after players have weeks rather than days to develop strategies around him.

Green Goblin

First announced: State of Play – June 2026

I don’t think any open beta character left me with more questions than Green Goblin.

Some players really disliked him.

Other players were already arguing that everyone was judging him far too quickly.

After seeing those discussions myself, I’m leaning toward giving Goblin more time before making any sweeping conclusions. He’s mechanically demanding, and characters like that almost always look worse during short tests.

There’s something here. We just need players to figure out how much.

Carnage

First announced: State of Play – June 2026

Carnage completes the Knights of Doom lineup and is another of the four characters joining the playable roster at full launch.

Since he wasn’t part of the 16-character open beta, I’m leaving competitive judgments aside until we’ve actually had enough match experience with him.

He certainly has one advantage already: people are going to want to play him.

Carnage is one of those Marvel characters who feels almost tailor-made for a fighting game, so I’m expecting him to become a very popular early pick regardless of where he eventually lands on the tier list.

Samurai Outriders – Ghost Rider, Blade, Loki and Deadpool

Finally, we have the Samurai Outriders:

  • Ghost Rider
  • Blade
  • Loki
  • Deadpool

This might be my favorite team purely from a character-selection standpoint. It’s such a strange collection of personalities that somehow works.

Ghost Rider

First announced: Tokyo Game Show 2025

Ghost Rider has been part of the known roster for quite a while, and his unique toolkit gives him an identity that feels noticeably different from many of the more straightforward fighters.

He’s currently a strong A-Tier option for me.

The interesting part will be seeing how players incorporate his tools into the rotating assist system once team optimization becomes more advanced.

Blade

First announced: EVO 2026

Blade was one of the big winners of the open beta.

His damage and combo potential stood out almost immediately, and once he gets the opening he’s looking for, things can go wrong very quickly for the other player.

That performance earned him a place among my current S-Tier characters.

He’s not necessarily who I’d hand to someone during their first five minutes with the game, but players willing to learn him are getting plenty of reward for that effort.

Loki

First announced: EVO 2026

Loki is part of the complete launch roster but wasn’t playable during the 16-character open beta.

That means we’re starting fresh with him at launch.

I’m particularly interested in how Loki fits into team compositions because Tōkon isn’t only about what a character can do while you’re directly controlling them. Assist utility matters enormously, and a character’s value can change depending on where they’re currently positioned in your rotating lineup.

For now, though, he remains unranked until we’ve had enough actual playtime.

Deadpool

First announced: EVO 2026

Deadpool rounds out both the Samurai Outriders and the complete 20-character launch roster.

Like Loki, Hulk, and Carnage, he wasn’t available during the open beta, so any attempt to rank him before getting meaningful match experience would mostly be guesswork.

We’ll know soon enough.

Given Deadpool’s popularity, I doubt we’ll have to wait very long for players to start pulling his kit apart and finding every possible combo.

How Many Characters Are in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls?

There are 20 playable characters in the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls base roster.

Those 20 fighters are divided evenly between five official teams, giving each team four characters.

That number should grow after launch, though, because Arc System Works has already confirmed additional DLC characters.

Upcoming MARVEL Tōkon DLC Characters

The 20-character launch roster isn’t the end of MARVEL Tōkon.

At least four additional fighters are planned as post-launch DLC, meaning the playable roster will continue growing beyond the characters listed above.

The first confirmed DLC fighter is Phoenix Cyclops.

That’s an interesting first choice because it isn’t simply regular Cyclops being added to the game. Phoenix Cyclops gives Arc System Works considerably more freedom to build something distinctive around the character rather than relying entirely on the version Marvel fighting-game fans have seen before.

The identities of the remaining DLC characters haven’t been confirmed yet.

As more fighters are officially revealed, we’ll add them to the roster and, once there’s enough actual gameplay to judge them properly, our tier list as well.
