The latest Fisch update takes fishing somewhere completely different — literally. The Deep is now open, giving players a huge underwater area to explore, with an ancient city, new fish, new fishing equipment, quests, materials, and some pretty dangerous creatures hiding in the trenches.
There’s a lot packed into this update, and some of the new systems aren’t immediately obvious when you first enter The Deep. You’ve got underwater exploration, low-gravity movement, sector beacons, a new Survey Device, harpoon combat, crafting materials, and even a boss-like Monstrous Cusk encounter.
So, if you’re jumping into The Deep for the first time and want to know what’s new and what you should focus on, here’s a complete breakdown.
Fisch The Deep Update Guide – New City, Fishing Rods, Harpoons, Bestiaries & Monstrous Cusk
The Deep is a brand-new underwater expansion built around a massive ancient city surrounded by dark abyssal trenches.
Once you make your way into the new area, you’ll find several different districts within the city. These areas aren’t just there for decoration either. You’ll meet residents, specialists, and merchants who can give you quests, exchange materials, and provide access to some of the update’s new rewards.
The city itself is breathable, which makes exploring the main districts much easier than you might expect from an underwater area.
However, once you start heading away from the safer city areas and into the surrounding trenches, things get much more dangerous.
Explore the Ancient Underwater City
The Deep City is the central hub of the expansion.
You’ll find different residents throughout the city, and talking to them is worth doing because several of them are connected to quests and progression.
There are also merchants who can exchange materials and provide other useful rewards. So before immediately heading into the deepest trenches, take some time to explore the city and see what NPCs are offering.
You may find that some of the new equipment and progression systems are tied directly to these characters.
New Fishing Rods
Of course, this is still Fisch, so the update wouldn’t be complete without new fishing rods.
The Deep adds several new rods, including:
- Luminous Rod
- Titanium Rod
- Scalding Hook
- Cusk Purger
These rods are part of the new progression available in The Deep, giving you more options as you work your way through the underwater content.
The update also introduces new ranged equipment, so fishing isn’t the only way you’ll be interacting with the creatures down here.
New Harpoon Guns and Spears
The Deep introduces Harpoon Guns and Spears, which are used for dealing with some of the more dangerous creatures found in the trenches.
Some of the new equipment includes:
- Scrap-Cannon
- Titanic Scalder
- Sightless Oracle
- Prism Spear
One particularly interesting feature is that you can equip bait directly to your ranged gear.
That’s a pretty major change from the usual fishing setup and gives you another system to experiment with while exploring the new area.
New Fish and Bestiaries
There are three new bestiaries to complete in The Deep.
Across these bestiaries, you can discover more than 60 new fish species, and the developers have based the new creatures on real-life fish.
So if you’re someone who likes completing every bestiary, The Deep gives you a pretty big collection to work through.
Don’t expect to catch everything immediately, though. Some species are tied to specific areas and conditions, while others are found deeper within the trenches.
Low-Gravity Walking on the Seafloor
One of the coolest new mechanics is the ability to actually walk across the ocean floor.
To do this, you’ll need the restored Deep Survey Device.
Once equipped, the device allows you to transition from normal underwater swimming to a low-gravity walking movement on the seafloor.
This changes the way you explore The Deep quite a bit. Instead of constantly swimming around, you can move along the bottom of the trenches and investigate areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach.
And yes, you can even fish while walking on the seafloor.
Your bobber will slowly float upward, with its movement adjusted based on the lure speed. It’s a strange feeling at first, but once you get used to it, it makes underwater fishing much more interesting.
Watch Out for Dangerous Roaming Fish
The Deep isn’t completely peaceful.
While exploring the trenches, you’ll encounter Dangerous Roaming Fish.
These creatures can deal contact damage, so casually swimming into them isn’t something you want to do.
This is where the new harpoon guns and spears become particularly useful. If you’re heading into the more dangerous areas, make sure you’re properly prepared rather than treating the trenches like another normal fishing location.
Sector Beacons and Grid Outages
Another major part of The Deep’s progression involves the Sector Beacons.
You’ll work alongside Chief Engineer Nereus to synthesize special beacon cores and repair the outer beacon towers.
The power situation in The Deep isn’t exactly stable, and restoring these beacon towers is part of fixing the problem.
Once you successfully restore a beacon tower, it will permanently illuminate its sector.
There’s another useful benefit too: restoring the beacons reduces fish hostility in that sector.
So repairing these isn’t just about making the area brighter. It also makes exploration safer.
The Gloomy Crevice
If you’re looking for the darker side of The Deep, you’ll eventually want to explore the Gloomy Crevice.
You’ll first need to upgrade your Survey Device to MK II.
This upgrade unlocks the Light Module, which is extremely important because visibility inside the crevice can drop to practically zero.
The area is filled with ruined infrastructure and hidden corners, making it one of the more mysterious locations in the expansion.
There are also rare deep-dwelling fish here, so completing your bestiary will eventually require you to venture into this dangerous area.
How to Find the Monstrous Cusk
The Deep also has its own massive creature encounter: the Monstrous Cusk.
To trigger the encounter, you’ll need to catch Faceless Cusks inside the Gloomy Crevice.
Doing this can awaken the Monstrous Cusk, setting off a multi-stage pursuit.
And this isn’t a normal fishing encounter.
Monstrous Cusk Boss Fight
Once the Monstrous Cusk awakens, you’ll have to pursue it using your harpoon equipment.
The creature will attempt to swim toward Deep City, so your objective is to slow it down before it reaches the city.
You can target different parts of the creature during the pursuit.
Flank shots can help slow it down, while aiming for the head is another important strategy.
You’ll need to get comfortable with the harpoon mechanics because this isn’t something you can simply defeat with normal fishing.
If you manage to bring the beast down, you’ll receive its tooth, which is one of the rewards associated with the encounter.
Collect Materials From Your Catches
Fishing in The Deep isn’t only about completing bestiaries.
Your catches can also provide raw crafting materials, including rare variants.
This gives you another reason to keep fishing even after you’ve already caught a particular species.
The materials can be used for progression and crafting, while unwanted extras can be traded through the new Deep systems.
Survey Device Stat Chips
The Survey Device can also be customized using Stat Chips.
These chips let you improve different aspects of your equipment, including:
- Harpoon Gun Accuracy
- Harpoon Gun Range
- Resilience
- Power
This adds another layer of progression to The Deep.
Rather than simply finding better equipment, you can customize your setup around the stats you actually want.
If you prefer a more accurate harpoon, for example, you can invest into Accuracy. Players who want more range or power can build around those stats instead.
Trade Extra Materials for C$
Don’t worry if your inventory starts filling up with crafting materials you don’t need.
The Deep Merchant lets you trade extra materials for additional C$.
So even materials that aren’t immediately useful can still have some value.
It’s worth checking your inventory from time to time and selling off excess materials instead of letting everything pile up.
Unlock Scrap-Bot
One of the more interesting additions is Scrap-Bot, a companion that can help collect materials and fish for you.
To unlock Scrap-Bot, you’ll need to complete Tinkerer Orik’s request.
Once you’ve completed the request, you’ll gain access to the companion.
Scrap-Bot can then passively retrieve materials and catches, making it a useful addition if you’re spending a lot of time farming resources in The Deep.
Citizen Bounty Board
The Deep City also has a Citizen Bounty Board.
This gives you time-limited tasks that you can complete for additional rewards.
These bounties can provide:
- C$
- XP
- Crafting materials
If you’re already exploring The Deep, it’s worth checking the board regularly so you can work on these objectives while doing other activities.
That way, you’re progressing multiple things at once instead of completing the same areas repeatedly.
New Rewards and Cosmetics
The residents of The Deep City also offer a variety of exclusive rewards.
These include:
- Titles
- Lanterns
- Bobbers
- Rod skins
- New boats
So even if you’re not interested in completing every single system in the update, there are plenty of collectibles to work toward.
Fisch The Deep Update Code
There is also a new code available with the update.
The current code is:
TheDeepIsVeryDeep
Make sure you redeem it while it’s active, since update codes can expire.
The Deep is much more than another fishing location. It adds an entire underwater progression system to Fisch, with its own city, bestiaries, equipment, quests, crafting materials, exploration mechanics, and dangerous creatures.
The Survey Device is especially important because it changes how you move around underwater, while the beacon system gives you a reason to explore and restore different sectors. Then, once you’re ready for the more dangerous content, the Gloomy Crevice and Monstrous Cusk give you something much more challenging to work toward.
And if you’re just starting the update, don’t rush straight into the deepest areas. Explore Deep City, talk to the NPCs, grab the available quests, and start upgrading your equipment. There are a lot of smaller systems here that become much easier to understand once you’ve spent some time exploring.
