The latest FISCH Apex Update Guide may be one of the smaller ones, but it introduces two major mechanics that players should absolutely pay attention to: Apex Fish (also known as Global Fish) and Potions. Here’s everything you need to know.
FISCH Apex Update Guide – New Cods, Apex Fish, Potions
Apex Fish (Global Fish Pools)
Every hour, a special type of fish called an Apex Fish spawns either in the First Sea or the Second Sea. These fish are limited in quantity and are part of a global pool, meaning players across all servers compete to catch them.
To know when one spawns, keep an eye on the top-left chat box. It will display a Global Event message like “An Apex Leviathan has been spotted near Pine Shaw.”
Each Apex Fish has a global limit of 500 catches, which depletes quickly as players hook them. You’ll also see a counter, like “123/500,” that updates in real time. Once it hits 0, that fish disappears until the next spawn.
To track these fish efficiently, it’s recommended to use your fish radar, as the catch zone is smaller than the swimming circle the fish follows. Timing and accuracy are important.
When you hook an Apex Fish, it stands out with a negative 97% catch rate and a unique blue catch bar, so you’ll know it’s special. Catching it drops the global count instantly.
Once caught, the fish is labeled as “Limited” in your inventory, but this may soon change. The developers have hinted at introducing an exclusive Apex rarity to distinguish them from regular limited fish.
How Apex Fish Work Across Servers
Important note: Apex Fish only spawn in servers that were already open at the time the fish appeared. If you switch to a private server after seeing the event in a public server, and that private server wasn’t already active, the Apex Fish won’t spawn there.
So, if you see one spawn, don’t rush to switch servers unless you’re sure it’s already active.
Currently, there are only two Apex Fish:
Apex Leviathan (Second Sea) – Preferred Bait: Luminous Larvae
Moss Lurker (First Sea) – Preferred Bait: Shark Head
To locate them, check the Open Ocean tab in your fishing menu.
Potions and the Cauldron Mechanic
This update also introduces potions, which are available in both seas during a Blue Moon event. Head to the usual fishing spot during a Blue Moon and look for the familiar Fishbrite Witch NPC near a glowing cauldron.
Interacting with the cauldron lets you craft different exotic potions, each offering a unique bonus:
All Season Potion – Lets you catch seasonal fish any time, with a moderate lure speed boost. Requires rare ingredients like Orca, Moi, and Crystallized Sea Dragon.
Luck Potion – Increases your luck stats. Comes in different tiers.
Glitch Potion – Special effects (details not fully known yet).
Lure Speed Potion – Boosts your lure speed. Also tier-based.
Note that you can’t combine the same potion more than once (e.g., two Luck Potions won’t stack). However, different potion types do stack (e.g., one Luck Potion + one Lure Speed Potion + one Glitch Potion).
Once you choose a potion, you can’t change it, so choose wisely.
