1. How to Access the New Biome: Veilwater Basin

The new region, Veilwater Basin, lies hidden beyond the Elixir Production Site.
Here’s how to get there:

  • Fast-travel to the Albany Tower.
  • From there, glide or travel to the Elixir Production Site — the massive castle-like structure.
  • Enter the site and head up the main path. You don’t need to clear the whole area — just make your way through the upper corridor.
  • Inside, you’ll find a doorway titled “Passage to Veilwater Basin.”

Walk through, and you’ll cross a shrouded corridor leading straight into the breathtaking new water biome.

Tip: Defeat the few enemies guarding the passage; they’re low to mid-level and easy to clear. Make sure to bring a few Shroud Cures just in case.

2. Exploring the Veilwater Basin

The Veilwater Basin is unlike any other biome in the game — lush, humid, and layered with waterways, flooded ruins, and submerged tunnels.

What You’ll Find:

  • Large River Systems: Fully explorable with swimming and diving mechanics.
  • A Huge Central Village: Houses unique crafting stations like the Millstone — used to make the Super Grinder, which replaces your old mortar and pestle.
  • Hidden Caves and Ruins: Contain golden chests, new crafting resources, and armor materials.
  • New NPCs: Including the Fisherman, who unlocks the fishing system and water-related quests.

Pro Tip: Visit the village first to collect the Millstone and Fisherman NPC. You’ll need both early on for crafting and progression.

3. The Dynamic Water System

This is the heart of the update.

Water now behaves like a real element — it flows, fills, and can even power your constructions.
You can swim, dive, and manipulate water around your base.

Key Mechanics:

  • Swimming: Basic stamina-based swimming is available by default.
  • Diving: You can stay underwater for around 30 seconds initially, but crafting special gear or potions lets you stay under much longer.
  • Water Flow Control: Gates, wheels, and flood controls allow you to channel or block water.
  • Base Integration: Use water as decoration or even to power Water Wheels for machinery.

Tip: Always close water gates in dungeons and ruins before exploring deeper sections — otherwise, you’ll flood the area and make traversal tricky.

4. New Resources and Crafting Materials

The Veilwater Basin adds a rich collection of new items that expand crafting, alchemy, and blacksmithing.

New Ores and Materials:

  • Gold Ore – Used for high-tier tools and weapons.
  • Aquamarine – Found near underwater ruins; used in jewelry and armor upgrades.
  • Mother of Pearl – Used in decorative and high-rarity gear crafting.
  • Iron Dust – A key grinding output from the new Super Grinder.
  • Algae – Used in bait crafting for fishing and taming aquatic creatures.

Tip: Always loot NPC caches after combat — many new resource drops now come directly from enemies.

5. New Tools and Weapons

The update introduces several new weapons and upgrades:

Gold Tool Set

  • Gold Pickaxe & Gold Hatchet – High-tier tools crafted from gold bars.
  • These gather resources significantly faster than previous versions.

New Weapon Type: Greatswords

  • Two-handed blades with wide swings and devastating power.
  • Perfect for crowd control or dealing with tougher aquatic enemies.
  • Found in golden chests or crafted after certain quest unlocks.

Bonus Find: There’s a golden chest hidden in the Old Hag’s Cottage overlooking the main river — it can contain a Greatsword early on.

6. Fishing and Aquatic Life

Fishing is finally in Enshrouded, and it’s not a small feature — it’s deeply tied to crafting and exploration.

How to Start Fishing:

  1. Meet the Fisherman NPC by the Dragon Skull River.
  2. Complete his first quest to unlock the fishing system.
  3. Craft a simple Fishing Rod from your inventory.
  4. Catch fish across lakes and rivers for materials and food.

New Creatures:

  • Fishmen (Hostile): Aggressive water-dwelling enemies; weak to Shroud damage.
  • Capybaras (Passive): Found in the north of Veilwater Basin. You’ll need Algae Bait to tame them.
    • Collect Capybara Whiskers for crafting new armor.

Tip: Build a base near water sources — it makes fishing, farming, and crafting far more convenient.

7. Underwater Exploration and Challenges

You’ll come across several ruins and dungeons that involve water puzzles and underwater switches.

  • Always carry Diver’s Potions or craft armor that improves underwater stamina.
  • Some areas require activating gates or pushing submerged buttons.
  • Explore underwater caves around the central river for rare loot and quest triggers.

Warning: You only have limited oxygen underwater (about 30 seconds by default). Plan dives carefully or use potions for longer excursions.

8. New Enemies and Threats

  • Draks: Amphibious lizard-like humanoids found throughout the Basin; deal high melee damage.
  • Fishmen: Hostile aquatic creatures that patrol rivers and ruins.
  • Elite Boss Variants: New mini-bosses guarding underwater treasure chests or unique weapons.

Use Shroud weapons or elemental wands to deal extra damage against them.

9. Gear Progression and Level Cap Increase

The level cap has been raised to 45, bringing new armor tiers and weapon progression paths.

  • Upgraded versions of existing armors with new visual models.
  • Craftable water-themed gear that increases swim speed and dive time.
  • Greatsword Mastery Skills in the combat tree.
  • Blacksmith, Alchemist, and Hunter NPCs now offer new blueprints once the new resources are discovered.

Tip: Leveling up beyond 40 requires more resources than before — use the new biome’s material drops to speed up progression.

The Wake of the Water update is Enshrouded at its best — alive, fluid, and rewarding.
If you haven’t jumped back in yet, now’s the perfect time to dive — literally. Between the new biome, the greatswords, the aquatic life, and the visual overhaul, this update delivers both new gameplay and a fresh sense of wonder.
