Duck Survival Best Weapon Guide – Frost Staff, Shotgun

Starting out in Duck Survival can feel a little overwhelming. There are several weapons available early on, multiple shops to spend your currency in, and it’s easy to waste valuable resources if you don’t know what to buy first.

The biggest mistake I see new players make is purchasing the wrong weapon from the Daily Shop simply because it’s on sale. That seems like a good deal at first, but it actually slows your progression later.

After looking at how each weapon performs and where you can unlock them, here’s the beginner-friendly guide I wish I had when I first started.

Duck Survival Best Weapon Guide – Frost Staff, Shotgun

Tier Weapon Should You Get It?
S Frost Staff Yes, one of the strongest beginner weapons
A Shotgun Excellent purchase from the Daily Shop
A Rocket Launcher Strong secondary weapon later on
B Heavy Machine Gun Decent early weapon but gets outclassed
C Basic Starter Weapons Only use until you unlock better options

Frost Staff Is the Best Beginner Weapon

If you’re only planning to unlock one premium weapon early, make it the Frost Staff.

Instead of simply dealing damage, the Frost Staff summons an icy storm that damages enemies while knocking them backward. That crowd control makes surviving difficult waves much easier, especially once stronger monsters begin appearing.

Even on stages where Frost doesn’t receive elemental bonuses, the weapon still performs surprisingly well because of its consistent area damage.

Frost Staff Strengths

  • Excellent crowd control
  • Hits multiple enemies at once
  • Pushes enemies away from your base
  • Strong throughout early and mid-game
  • Easy to upgrade once unlocked

The only downside is that its active skill isn’t always amazing against tiny enemy groups since there may not be enough targets to fully benefit from it.

Buy the Shotgun From the Daily Shop

This is probably the most important tip for brand-new players.

Every day you earn one Daily Shop coin.

You’ll notice several discounted weapons, including:

  • Frost Staff
  • Shotgun
  • Heavy Machine Gun
  • Rocket Launcher
  • Flame Wrath

Although the Frost Staff sometimes appears at a discount, don’t spend your Daily Shop coins on it.

Instead, always buy the Shotgun.

Why?

Because the Frost Staff can be purchased somewhere else much more cheaply.

Buy the Frost Staff From the Arena Shop Instead

After unlocking Arena mode, visit the Arena Shop.

Here you can purchase the Frost Staff using Arena currency instead of wasting your limited Daily Shop coins.

That means your progression becomes much more efficient.

Recommended purchase order

  1. Buy the Shotgun from the Daily Shop.
  2. Save Arena currency.
  3. Purchase the Frost Staff from the Arena Shop.
  4. Upgrade both over time.

Following this route lets you collect two excellent weapons without wasting limited currencies.

Best Weapon Setup

Once you unlock multiple weapon slots, a strong early-game setup is:

  • Primary: Frost Staff
  • Secondary: Rocket Launcher

The Rocket Launcher provides extra burst damage while the Frost Staff keeps enemy groups under control.

This combination performs well in Chapters, Arena, and Endless Defense.

Upgrade Your Weapons Correctly

Duck Survival actually has two different upgrade systems.

General Upgrades

General upgrades improve every weapon slot.

These upgrades are always worth investing in because every loadout benefits from them.

Advanced Upgrades

Advanced upgrades use weapon fragments.

Unlike General Upgrades, these only improve one specific weapon.

If you’re planning to use the Frost Staff for a long time, don’t hesitate to invest fragments into it.

Best Skills to Prioritize

Your weapon is only half the battle.

Picking the right combat skills has an even bigger impact.

S Tier Skills

  • Fire Strike
  • Frost Staff upgrades
  • Barracks
  • Flame Wall

A Tier Skills

  • Furious Chicken
  • Electromagnetic Tower
  • Blade

B Tier Skills

  • Chain Lightning
  • Ice Wall

C Tier Skills

  • Meteor
  • Low-damage early skills

Fire Strike consistently dealt the highest damage throughout testing, while the Frost Staff remained one of the strongest weapon sources of damage.

Don’t Ignore Base Defense

Many new players only focus on their character.

That works for a while until flying enemies begin attacking your base from the sides.

Some enemies completely ignore you and head straight toward your structures.

To prevent sudden defeats:

  • Build Electromagnetic Towers whenever possible.
  • Keep upgrading your Barracks.
  • Place Frost Walls for extra protection.
  • Check your base regularly instead of fighting at the front the entire match.

One unnoticed dragon or bat wave can destroy your base surprisingly quickly.

Save Your Mech for Bosses

Once you unlock the Mech, it feels tempting to summon it immediately.

I’d avoid doing that.

The Mech is strongest against:

  • Boss fights
  • Elite enemy waves
  • Emergency situations

Using it during the first minute of a stage usually wastes most of its potential because early enemies are already easy to defeat.

Arena Tips for Beginners

Arena has several unique mechanics compared to normal Chapters.

A few things worth remembering:

  • Update your Arena loadout after unlocking new weapons.
  • Equip your newest camp or fortress whenever you unlock one.
  • Change your weapon configuration manually.
  • Arena uses its own combat setup, so Chapter changes don’t always carry over automatically.

A lot of players accidentally keep using old equipment simply because they forgot to update their Arena team.

Endless Defense Tips

Endless Defense becomes much harder than normal Chapters.

Enemies gain shields, stronger monsters appear, and eventually a blizzard reduces everyone’s maximum health.

To survive longer:

  • Prioritize the Frost Staff.
  • Build Barracks early.
  • Upgrade Electromagnetic Towers whenever possible.
  • Watch for dragons since they usually fly directly toward your base.
  • Don’t stay in one location forever—check on your base occasionally.

Later waves become more about protecting structures than defeating individual enemies.

Spend Your Gems Wisely

When you’re new, gems seem plentiful.

That doesn’t last forever.

A smart early investment is purchasing Hero Tickets whenever they’re available in the gem shop.

Hero unlocks provide much more long-term value than spending gems on random refreshes or unnecessary rerolls.

The Frost Staff easily earns its place as one of the strongest beginner weapons in Duck Survival. Its crowd control, reliable area damage, and long-term usefulness make it an excellent investment, even if a stage doesn’t favor Frost damage.

Just as importantly, where you buy it matters. Picking up the Shotgun from the Daily Shop and saving your Arena currency for the Frost Staff is the most efficient route for new players. That strategy gives you two powerful weapons while making the most of your limited resources, setting you up for smoother progress through Chapters, Arena battles, and Endless Defense.
