Dead Rails April Update Guide: 4 New Classes, Shop System

3 New Challenges

Here’s a quick look at the new in-game challenges and what you need to do to complete them:

  • Fistful of Dollars: Complete the entire run without selling anything. Reward: 30 Bonds.
  • Sell the Corpse of Tesla: Defeat and sell the Tesla boss’s body. Reward: 30 Bonds.
  • Dancing with Wolves: Tame 20 wolves in one game. Reward: 15 Bonds.

Each of these challenges will test different aspects of your strategy, from patience and timing to brute force and resource management.

Packmaster Class

The Packmaster spawns in with three dogs right out of the gate. Sadly, the dogs don’t follow you—yet. But that might be something for a future patch. The real magic of this class is in taming wild wolves. When a wolf attacks you, it automatically becomes your pet.

That’s right—you can build a full-blown wolf army just by getting smacked around. It’s perfect for tackling Dancing with Wolves.

Updated Shop System

The in-game store has been completely overhauled. No more grabbing items off shelves and walking away. Now, you:

  • Pick the item you want.
  • Drop it on the counter.
  • The total cost gets calculated.
  • You click to buy—just like Lumber Tycoon mechanics.

Items no longer respawn infinitely either. There’s a limited stock now, so you have to plan carefully. For example, doctors only sell four snake oils per checkpoint, which could really mess with healing strategies.

Other changes in the shop:

  • You can now buy a Pickaxe for $30, making the Miner class almost obsolete.
  • Item spawns are completely random per town.
  • Exotic items like Lightning Rods and Cannon Rails now appear, but at steep prices.

Taming Wolves

Taming wolves now ties directly into the Packmaster class. If a wolf hits you, it becomes your companion. It’s that simple—and really satisfying when you build a massive pack.

Musician Class

The Musician starts with a banjo instead of a shovel or axe. Its main perk is healing teammates nearby. The healing stacks if multiple musicians are present, but it’s extremely slow. Honestly, it’s more of a support role than a solo-friendly class.

Werewolf Class

The Werewolf class is a beast—literally. You don’t spawn with any gear, but once nighttime hits, your character transforms:

  • Max HP increases to 200.
  • Movement speed doubles.
  • Melee damage skyrockets.

However, there’s a downside: during daytime, your HP and damage are reduced to 90%. Still, the nighttime boost more than makes up for it.

Necromancer Class

The Necromancer has a 25% chance to turn any enemy you kill into a pet. But every time this happens, you lose 10 HP. It’s a tradeoff that can pay off big if you want backup during harder waves. Your undead minions don’t go in your inventory—they follow you like wolves.
