The May 2026 Clash Royale update is bringing one of the biggest progression overhauls the game has ever seen. Supercell is removing the old Account XP system and replacing it with a completely new Collection Level system that changes how progression, rewards, and King Levels work.
Here’s everything players need to know before the update arrives on May 26, 2026.
Clash Royale Is Removing Account XP
The current Account Level system, also known as King’s Journey, is being removed entirely.
Right now, players level up by earning XP. After the update, progression will instead be tied directly to your card collection.
This means your new Collection Level will be calculated using:
- Card levels
- Tower Troop levels
- Evolutions
- Heroes
Instead of earning XP, your account progression will now grow automatically as you upgrade cards and unlock new content.
How Collection Levels Work
The new system is very straightforward.
Collection Level Formula
Every Card Level = +1 Collection Level
Every Tower Troop Level = +1 Collection Level
Every Evolution = +5 Collection Levels
Every Hero = +5 Collection Levels
At launch, the maximum Collection Level will be:
2,265
That cap will continue increasing as more cards, Evolutions, and Heroes are added to Clash Royale in future updates.
Previously, many players didn’t really care about Account XP because it felt disconnected from actual progression.
Now, everything contributes directly to your Collection Level.
This means:
- Unlocking Evolutions becomes more valuable
- Heroes now affect progression
- Every upgrade matters
- Progression becomes easier to understand
The update also removes the huge XP requirement spikes from higher King Levels.
New Collection Level Rewards
The old Level Up Chests are being replaced with milestone rewards.
Instead of opening random chests, players will now receive specific rewards at Collection Level milestones.
Rewards include:
- Gems
- Wild Cards
- Lucky Chests
- Evolution Boxes
- Exclusive Banners
- Tower Skins
Full Collection Level Reward
According to Supercell, players progressing from Level 1 to Level 2,265 can earn:
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Gems | 14,955 |
| Common Wild Cards | 28,920 |
| Rare Wild Cards | 7,850 |
| Epic Wild Cards | 1,327 |
| Legendary Wild Cards | 58 |
| Champion Wild Cards | 19 |
| 5-Star Lucky Chests | 28 |
| Evolution Boxes | 13 |
| Exclusive Banners | 6 |
| Exclusive Tower Skin | 1 |
These rewards replace the old Level Up Chest system entirely.

King Levels Are Changing Too
King Levels are no longer tied to XP.
Instead, players will level up their King Tower by meeting upgrade requirements.
For example:
| King Level | Requirement |
|---|---|
| 10 | 10 cards at Level 9+ |
| 11 | 10 cards at Level 10+ |
| 12 | 11 cards at Level 11+ |
| 13 | 11 cards at Level 12+ |
| 14 | 12 cards at Level 13+ |
| 15 | 13 cards at Level 14+ |
| 16 | 14 cards at Level 15+ |
Importantly, your King Level cannot decrease after the update.
Mastery Rewards Are Also Changing
One of the most controversial changes in the update is the Mastery reward rework.
Gems are being removed entirely from Masteries.
Instead, players will receive Gold rewards.
New Mastery Rewards
| Task Set | New Reward |
|---|---|
| Set 1 | 4,000 Gold |
| Set 2 | 6,000 Gold |
| Set 3 | 15,000 Gold |
However, Supercell says the removed Gems are being redistributed into the new Collection Level milestone system.
Masteries Will Be Easier
To compensate for the reward changes, most Mastery tasks are being reduced by around 50%.
This should make completing Masteries significantly faster than before.
Feature Unlocks Are Moving to Arenas
Several game features that previously unlocked through Account Levels will now unlock via Trophy Road Arenas instead.
This includes:
- Clans
- Clan Wars
- Pass Royale
- Card Masteries
- Star Points
For veteran players, this change won’t have much impact.
The May 2026 Clash Royale update completely changes how progression works.
The biggest improvements are:
- clearer progression
- more milestone rewards
- easier Masteries
- more useful upgrades
- Evolutions and Heroes finally mattering for progression
At the same time, some players are unhappy about Gems being removed from Masteries.
Whether this ends up being a positive change overall will likely depend on how rewarding the new Collection Level milestones feel after the update launches on May 26.
