Getting a strong start in Chaos Zero: Nightmare can make your early progression smoother — and yes, it’s entirely possible to start with two 5-star combatants right from the beginning.

This guide covers everything you need to know about rerolling, how to guarantee two 5-stars, how long it takes, and which early characters are worth keeping based on their performance and potential in the current meta.

Do You Need to Reroll?

Let’s start with the big question — is rerolling necessary?
No, it isn’t.

You can absolutely play, progress, and enjoy the entire game using just the default starter team or whatever 5-star you first obtain. Even with standard pulls, the game is generous enough that your team will be perfectly viable for story and missions.

However, rerolling is worth it if:

  • You want to start with a specific 5-star you really like.
  • You enjoy optimizing your early progress.
  • You plan to build long-term “save data” and combat decks efficiently.

Because Chaos Zero: Nightmare is a roguelike with deep deck-building mechanics, starting with your preferred 5-star helps create that personal connection and gives you a strong motivation to invest time into that combatant.

Rerolling Made Easy

Unlike many gacha games that require email switching or third-party account resets, Chaos Zero: Nightmare makes rerolling simple.

Here’s how:

  1. Open the main menu (the “burger” icon at the top right).
  2. Go to Account Settings.
  3. Select Delete Account Data.
  4. Confirm — your account resets instantly.

You can reroll as many times as you want using the same email or login, which makes the process much faster.

How Long Does a Reroll Take?

Depending on how much story content you skip, rerolling typically takes:

  • 15–20 minutes if you skip all story dialogue.
  • 25–35 minutes if you watch or read through story scenes.

You’ll reach your first batch of summons naturally while playing through the tutorial, and additional free summons will become available shortly after.

How to Get Two 5-Stars (Step-by-Step)

Here’s the key trick behind getting two guaranteed 5-stars early:

1. Understand the Beginner Banner

The beginner banner gives you discounted summons (20% cheaper) and includes a guaranteed 5-star after a set number of pulls.

Originally, the game displayed the guarantee as 30 rescues, but that was a mistranslation. The correct number is 50 rescues.

This means:

  • You must summon 50 times on the beginner banner.
  • Since it’s discounted, you only need 40 summons’ worth of currency to reach that point.

2. How the Guarantee Works

If you pull a 5-star before reaching your 50th rescue, that doesn’t cancel your guarantee — you’ll still get another 5-star at the 50th rescue.

So the ideal scenario is:

  • Pull one 5-star early (before 50).
  • Continue summoning until rescue 50.
  • Receive your second guaranteed 5-star.

This is how you walk away from your reroll with two 5-stars on one account.

3. Confirmed Early Summon Resources

At launch (based on pre-registration and milestone rewards), you’ll receive:

  • 23 summons total (20 from pre-registration + 3 from social milestones)
  • Free 4-star Vanguard (Eir)
  • 10× Character Experience Packs
  • 150,000 Gold equivalent
  • 2× 80 Stamina items

The stamina rewards are enough to reach account level 20 on day one without spending premium currency.

Power Ratings – Who’s Worth Rerolling For?

The meta in Chaos Zero: Nightmare isn’t fully defined yet, but based on early gameplay and testing, here’s how the 5-star characters generally rank in early performance.

Every combatant has potential — but these stand out early on for their strong kits and reliability:

Rank Character Role / Strengths
S Khalip High durability + massive AoE damage. One of the best tanks for long runs.
S Min Heavy burst nuker + vulnerability inflictor. Excellent boss killer.
A+ Magna Shields, counters, and strong sustain. Great in prolonged fights.
A Kron Hybrid AoE and single-target powerhouse. Straightforward and consistent DPS.
A Renoa Multi-attack gunner; scales well with crit and speed buffs.
A Hugo Similar to Renoa; excels in consistent damage output.
B+ Veronica Sub-DPS focused on card upgrades and automation (ballista system).
B Ren Single-target katana fighter; strong but limited AoE.
B Luke Reliable early DPS, decent crit scaling. Good starting pick.
B Oa (Ora) Summons slimes that give various buffs; support-heavy but fun to use.

Even though some are rated lower, remember that team synergy and deck customization can elevate any character. The game’s balance currently allows nearly all 5-stars to perform well when built correctly.

Best 4-Stars to Keep

Even if you don’t get your perfect 5-star, several 4-stars are strong enough to carry you through the early and mid-game:

Character Role / Utility
Marbel Best 4-star shielder; strong defense and excellent survivability.
Selena Extra attack specialist; inflicts Passion Weakness and high burst damage.
Nia Support/buffer; can replay cards and increase team attack power.
Casius Draws and cycles cards efficiently to trigger synergies.
Mika Provides extra action points — lets your team act more often.
Tresa Extreme single-target damage dealer that can pierce high defenses.

These 4-stars are worth keeping even in late-game compositions.

Recommended Reroll Targets

If you want to optimize your start without overdoing it, aim for:

  • One top-tier DPS (Min, Kron, or Renoa)
  • One tank or support (Khalip, Magna, or Nia)

Pulling one of each gives your early squad solid damage and survivability balance.

Going for triple or quadruple 5-stars is possible, but the time investment quickly becomes unreasonable for most players.

Rerolling in Chaos Zero: Nightmare is straightforward and player-friendly — you can do it quickly, and with a little luck, start your journey with two 5-stars in less than half an hour.
