Castle Busters might look simple at first, but once you spend more time in the arena, you quickly realize that unit choice matters far more than people expect. Some units are amazing at destroying the base of enemy castles, some are excellent at sniping hidden troops, while others look flashy but end up underperforming in real matches.
One of the biggest mistakes newer players make is only looking at raw damage. In reality, things like projectile spread, explosion size, firing angle, accuracy, and even castle positioning matter just as much as damage itself.
This guide covers the best units available from Arenas 1 through 11 and explains exactly why certain units are strong while others fall behind. Instead of just throwing units into random tiers, this guide breaks down how each one actually performs during real battles and what strategies they work best with.
S Tier Units
These are the units that consistently perform well in almost every situation. They either dominate castle destruction, provide incredible value, or completely change how matches play out.
Bomber
The Bomber is easily one of the strongest early-to-mid game units in Castle Busters and honestly stays useful far longer than many players expect.
This unit fires four projectiles rapidly, and the combination of decent accuracy, fast firing speed, and large explosions makes it incredibly dangerous.
What makes the Bomber truly special is its ability to destroy the bottom sections of enemy castles. In Castle Busters, destroying the lower supports often causes the entire structure to collapse, instantly winning the match unless the opponent protected their castle with foundations.
The Bomber excels at this strategy better than almost every early-game unit.
Another huge advantage is reliability. Unlike many spread-based units, the Bomber does not rely heavily on luck. Its shots usually land where you want them to, which makes it far more consistent during competitive matches.
One important tip many players ignore is positioning. A lot of players place Bombers near the front of their castle, which is a terrible idea because enemy units can eliminate them quickly. The Bomber works much better when hidden deeper inside the castle, preferably on the bottom floor where aiming stays more stable.
A Tier Units
These units are extremely strong and can easily carry matches, but they are slightly more situational or require better positioning and timing than true S Tier units.
Wrecker
The Wrecker is one of the first units players unlock, and despite being a starter unit, it remains extremely powerful for a long time.
Its main strength is massive explosion damage. When aimed properly, the Wrecker can rip apart entire lower sections of enemy castles.
The biggest issue is long-range aiming. Shots become harder to control at distance, and missing important weak points can completely waste your turn.
Still, because castle collapse strategies are so effective, the Wrecker remains one of the strongest early-game options.
Air Striker
The Air Striker is one of the more unique units in the game.
Instead of relying entirely on direct explosions, it creates a secondary airstrike effect after impact. Once the projectile lands, multiple damaging projectiles rain down from above onto the target area.
This makes the unit extremely strong against castles with exposed upper sections or protected units hiding behind foundations.
If the enemy castle is standing upright, the Air Striker can absolutely destroy top-level defenses.
However, tilted castles reduce its effectiveness significantly because the raining projectiles often miss or land awkwardly.
Infector
The Infector is one of the strongest backup units in Arenas 1 through 11.
Its projectile splits into three separate explosions after impact, allowing it to deal heavy damage to already weakened structures.
The random explosion spread can sometimes be frustrating because portions of the damage may explode in midair instead of inside the castle. However, when fired into damaged sections, the Infector becomes devastating.
It works especially well after Bombers or Wreckers have already opened holes in the enemy structure.
B+ Tier Units
These units are solid and useful, but they usually work best as support or specialty options rather than primary damage dealers.
Napalmer
The Napalmer is a very interesting unit because it performs completely differently depending on firing angle.
If fired straight ahead, it feels mediocre. However, firing upward creates a rain-style bombardment that spreads damage across large sections of the castle.
This makes it excellent for cleaning up upper structures or damaging leftover pieces after lower supports have already been destroyed.
It is not usually strong enough to carry matches by itself, but it performs very well in support roles.
Crow
The Crow deals impressive damage and fires two projectiles, making it surprisingly dangerous when shots connect properly.
Unfortunately, its movement pattern makes aiming extremely awkward. Because the projectiles move unpredictably up and down, landing accurate shots through multipliers or narrow openings becomes difficult.
Still, the damage output itself is respectable enough to keep the unit relevant.
Poisoner
The Poisoner is a tactical support unit more than a direct damage dealer.
Its poison clouds linger for multiple turns and reveal hidden enemy units by displaying their health bars after taking poison damage.
This makes it extremely useful for locating hidden Bombers or protected units buried inside castles.
The Poisoner becomes much stronger after the enemy structure has already been partially damaged.
B Tier Units
These units are decent overall and can contribute during matches, but they either lack specialization or get outperformed by stronger alternatives.
Burrower
The Burrower fires extremely fast with perfect accuracy, which sounds amazing on paper.
Its biggest issue is tiny explosion radius.
While it can shred enemy units effectively, especially exposed ones, it struggles to fully destroy structural supports because too much debris remains behind.
It performs well in flexible roles but rarely dominates.
Saxton
The Saxton uses returning boomerang-style projectiles that can strike castles from behind.
This sounds amazing in theory, but in practice, the boomerang path feels inconsistent and awkward.
Sometimes shots hit perfect weak spots, while other times they completely miss critical areas.
It can work well with projectile multipliers, but overall it feels more gimmicky than reliable.
B – Tier Units
These units are usable, but they usually struggle to justify a slot compared to stronger alternatives.
Scout
The Scout is basically pure chaos.
It sprays projectiles everywhere with poor accuracy and small explosions. While it can slowly chip away at castles over time, it struggles badly at focused damage. It is not very good at destroying foundations and also lacks reliable anti-unit pressure. Its only real strength is constant random damage output.
Barrager
The Barrager looks visually impressive because it fires a large spread of projectiles, but the actual effectiveness feels disappointing. The explosions are not large enough to compensate for the inaccurate spread, and much of the damage ends up wasted. Many players use this unit because it feels flashy, but in practical arena matches, it often underperforms.
Best Overall Unit for Arenas 1-11
Bomber
The Bomber stands above the rest because it combines:
- Reliable damage
- Strong explosions
- Excellent structure destruction
- Great castle collapse potential
- Useful accuracy
- Strong match-winning capability
Even later in progression, the Bomber remains useful because destroying castle foundations is one of the strongest strategies in Castle Busters.
Castle Busters has much more strategy than most players expect at first glance. Winning consistently is not just about using high-damage units. Proper placement, castle collapse strategies, hidden unit protection, and support combinations matter just as much.
Some units look powerful visually but struggle in real matches, while others like the Bomber quietly dominate because of how efficiently they destroy structural weak points.
As you move through Arenas 1 to 11, learning which units work together is far more important than simply unlocking newer ones.
A Bomber backed by a Poisoner or Air Striker can often outperform entire late-game setups if used correctly.
