Final Fantasy XIV Tifa Outfit: How to Unlock and Buy Items

Final Fantasy XIV has dropped an exciting new collaboration event that lets you dress your Warrior of Light in iconic gear from Final Fantasy VII. If you have been wondering how to add Tifa and Barret’s classic looks to your glamour collection, this walkthrough covers everything you need to know. Getting these sets requires mastering a brand-new typing minigame, so you will want to brush up on your keyboard skills before diving in.

This limited-time event caught a few players off guard because it relies entirely on keyboard inputs rather than standard controller movement. I spent way too much time failing early rounds because I ignored punctuation marks, so pay close attention to the mechanics below to save yourself some frustration. Trust me, grabbing these rewards early ensures you do not miss out before the event cycles away.

Below, you will find the exact quest prerequisites, minigame strategies, and a complete price list for every item available at the event vendor. Make sure your character meets the level requirements so you can jump straight into the action without delays.

Unlocking the Tifa and Barret cosmetic sets means diving headfirst into the Gold Saucer’s latest attraction called Keybound Brawler. If your character is brand new or you have never visited this entertainment hub, you will need to knock out a quick introductory questline first.

Getting your character prepared takes just a few minutes if you know where to travel. Follow these quick steps to get the minigame unlocked on your screen.

This minigame and its rewards will only be available for a limited time.

  • Level Requirement reach level 15 with any Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic job.
  • Unlock Gold Saucer travel to Ul’dah, Steps of Nald, at X:9.6, Y:9.0 and accept the blue quest Accept It Could Happen to You from the Well-heeled Youth.
  • Unlock Minigame travel to the Manderville Gold Saucer and accept the blue quest Keyward Bound from the Catlike Mammet at X:5.4, Y:7.0.
  • Access Square completing these steps opens the Keybound Square and the Keybound Brawler minigame.

If you ever step away from the activity and need to head back inside, just look for the Keybound Gatekeeper in the West Wonder Square at X:6.1, Y:7.3. Speaking to this NPC will teleport you right back to the action.

Keybound Brawler functions as a typing challenge that requires a physical keyboard to play properly. During each session, you team up with three other players to clear out three waves of enemies by typing out phrases that appear above their heads.

Keeping your score as high as possible requires watching a few specific rules regarding text input. While messing up letter capitalization will not outright fail your input, it does reduce the bonus points awarded for that word.

Punctuation mistakes, however, carry a much heavier penalty during matches. Forgetting to type a period, comma, exclamation point, or em dash (.

, ! -) will cause the game to reject your entry entirely.

This ruins your combo multiplier and leaves your character wide open for enemy counterattacks.

Certain enemies also feature dangerous gimmicks that require quick reflexes and restraint. Ahriman enemies telegraph a death glare attack by showing a symbol resembling a banned keyboard icon, telling you to immediately stop typing. Touching your keyboard during this warning will stun your character for seven whole seconds.

Boss encounters introduce another layer by charging up massive group-wide attacks while an extended phrase pops up on your party shield. Everyone in the group must type this longer phrase out quickly to reinforce the barrier and avoid taking catastrophic damage.

Finishing a run successfully awards between 200 and 300 MGC currency tokens to spend at the event vendor located inside the Keybound Square at X:6.2, Y:6.0. Exchanging these tokens lets you claim the Avalanche Leader gear modeled after Barret or the Avalanche Brawler gear styled after Tifa.

Keep in mind that both armor sets are strictly gender-locked, meaning male characters can only equip Barret’s outfit while female characters can only wear Tifa’s set. The table below outlines every reward you can purchase along with its exact token cost.
